Volunteer at Kingdom Kids Early Learning Centre, Palmerston Christian School

While I was on visit to family in Darwin I had the wonderful experience and opportunity of conducting volunteer
work for two months at Kingdom Kids Early Learning Centre, Palmerston Christian School. I was so honored
and excited about this opportunity as it gave me some more insight to working with young children and it gave
me the opportunity to prepare myself for Early Childhood Education. I received wonderful guidance form the
Director, Mrs. Matty Van Drempt throughout my time volunteering and this has helped shaped the way I
think as an Educator. Mrs. Matty asked me to spend time with the children, to get to know them and
observe their way of conducting activities. This was wonderful as I was able to link the OLT course content I
had been busy with at the time, with first hand experience to help me understand the context of the courses
in depth.

Outline below are some of the tasks I completed while volunteering:

l Set up daily activities for children in the indoor and outdoor play area

l Clean up and set down of activities once during transition time

l Helped children conduct activities and provided assistance and guidance throughout

l Comforted and engaged with children throughout the day

l Interact with children during group learning time

l Ensured a clean and tidy environment for children at all times

Working with the children at Kingdom Kids Early Learning Centre had sparked a great interest in me to be a
great role model and educator for my future learners.
