SOP

I had asked my mother that why she always boiled rice in a pressure cooker instead of a bowl.
She told me that in pressure cooker rice boils faster as compare to bowl, but she were not able to
give the reason behind it. My elder brother was from mechanical engineering and he explained
me the reason of it. Finally I had decided to do the graduation in Mechanical Engineering
because my brother was able to clear my all daily life doubts with this branch.
My B.Tech Project was on Electro Magnetic Braking System. This is a secondary braking
system which is used in formula one cars and used in Turbo machines.
I am pursuing my MTech degree in Energy. While doing my MTech Thesis, I worked on
Ebsilon-steag software that simulates thermodynamic cycle processes and is used for
engineering, designing and optimizing power plants. I also studied various subjects like
Fundamentals of Solar Thermal Design and Structural Mechanics of Solar Systems, which
have added an extra flavor of solar energy to my core mechanical engineering skills. During the
summer term, I have learned Computational fluid dynamics and worked on the project Design
of Flat Plate Heat Exchanger. I have designed an advanced type of heat exchanger which has the
features of both Flat Plate type Heat Exchanger and Shell and Tube type Heat Exchanger. In
place of circular tubes we have drilled holes in an Aluminium block and cut the holes from
center so that finally these holes become semicircular holes. The advantage of doing this is to
have a larger surface area exposed to heat transfer. For this project, I worked on software such as
Solidworks and Ansys-Fluent, which helped me gain deeper knowledge of Thermal Heat
Transfer and Thermal Storage.
My MTech thesis is on Optical Design of Solar Thermal Collectors. It involves work on
Advance System Analysis Program (ASAP), and it is helpful to analyze the effect of real
environment conditions on solar thermal collectors optical efficiency. Due to wind load
deformation occurs over the trough surface that can be simulated on ASAP. For Jodhpur Climate
wind action on the parabolic Trough has been studied. The collector energy output depends on
the incident solar radiation and on the collector properties.
During doctoral studies, I plan to exploit the traits that I have acquired over the years to an extent
where I could can become an international-level researcher with expertise in my research area.
It would, therefore, be a privilege to be able to secure admission to pursue research at the IIT
Gandhinagar. I am sure that if I am given the opportunity to study at your Institute, that which
attracts some of the best students from all over the world, it will provide an environment
competitive enough to bring out the best in me.
I would like to thank you for taking time to read this SOP and I look forward to hearing a
positive reply on my application.
