Lesson Objective(s)/Performance Outcomes:
1. Students will be able to discuss art concepts essential for still life drawing such as value, composition,
scale and proportion, hierarchy, and atmospheric perspective.
2. Students will be able to compare techniques used by other famous artists during still life
drawings/paintings.
3. Students will be able to create small thumbnails that help them plan out their composition.
4. Students will learn how to properly create borders using masking tape and drawing boards.
5. Students will able to practice concepts already discussed such as value techniques, blending, hatch
marking, cross hatching, gesture and contour line drawings.
6. Students will be able to discover different way to create the allusion of texture in a drawing.
7. Students will be able to create a still life drawing from observational drawing.

Assessment (Description/Criteria)
Formative:
Students will be required to conduct a series of preliminary drawings on potential compositions for their still
life drawings to be visually checked by the teacher before continuing.
Students will be required to complete a gesture and contour drawing of their final composition on 18x24 in
drawing paper to be checked before adding details and values.

Management of the Instructional Environment
Day 1: Tables are arranged in a horseshoe shape to allow all the students to see the presentation and allow
the teacher to walk around freely and discuss problem solving with students.
Day 2: Tables will be moved to the out skirts of the room to make room for students to circle around the still
life with their drawing boards.
Still life will be set up in the middle of the room on a table.
Technology Integration
Students will be required to upload all prep work onto Google class for teacher to check progress.
Students will be able to use the Grid app to help with drawing their compositions and values.

Diversity and Equity (Accommodations, Modifications, Adaptations)
Visual and Written notes will be provided to all students.
Teacher will spend extra time with students who need it.
Due dates will be flexible to accommodate those needing more time.
Multiple check-ins between students and teacher to check on student progress and understanding.

Activities/Procedures
Day One:
Introduction PowerPoint over charcoal medium and charcoal brown paper bag drawing.
Students will be given bag paper bags to complete a charcoal brown paper bag drawing in their sketch books
to be photographed and uploaded to Google classroom. Teacher will walk around the room and demonstrate
different techniques for students to use while drawing their brown bags.
Day Two:
Teacher will introduction still life and project with a PowerPoint. After lecture, teacher will walk through the
steps of taping down drawing paper to drawing boards with the students. Students will then conduct at least
three preliminary sketches of three possible compositions to be discussed and approved by the teacher.
Teacher will walk around the classroom discussing sketches and giving feedback.
Day Three and Four:
Students begin their 18x24 inch charcoal still life drawing based off of approved preliminary sketch. Teacher
will aid students by providing feedback and guided instruction. After finishing their drawings students will
spray their piece with fixative and remove masking tape to reveal clean crisp borders.
