Resources/References
Time Motivation and Introduction:
Align these with the segment
- Place tree brand and leaves resource from previous lesson in a spot where they will be introduced.
where all students are able to see it
- Ask class what they used this for last time they saw it (use prompts if
necessary)
- Explain that in this lesson they are going to make their own trees and
leaves by using their amazing counting skills
- Ask the class helper to pass around the worksheets

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

- Students are given a work sheet each which has an image of a large tree
and multiple branches.
- Children will count the leaves on each branch and write the amount in a
box at the end of the branch
- Once this is complete, children are asked to write the numbers in order
along a number line
- The students will now turn this number line into a tree branch, drawing
the branch themselves.
- As an extension, students can attempt to count all the leaves on the tree,
writing the answer at the base of the tree

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

- Bring the attention of the class back to the front of the room
- Check class understanding by asking a child to give their answer for a
particular branch and how they worked it out
- Ask who was able to do the extension and what their answer was
- Check understanding of the whole class by arranging the leaves on the
branch at the front of the class and asking everyone the answer. If they
are struggling support them by counting each leaf individually

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be

judged?)
Students will be assessed by their class participation as well as marking
their worksheets after the lesson is complete
