Myrtle Beach Cluster School Improvement Council Agenda

September Meeting Minutes

I. Call to order
A. Erin Smith, Acting Chairperson of MB Cluster SIC called the meeting to order.
II. Roll Call
A. Introduction of all members were made.
B. Representatives from each cluster school were present, including principals
Christel Arnette, Michelle Green-Graham, and Deb Colliver.
III. Approval of Minutes from the last meeting of 2016
A. The group was provided the minutes of last meeting
B. Erin Smith asked for a motion to approve minutes. Jim Creel made a motion and
there was a 2nd.
IV. New Business
A. Proposed meeting schedule was approved for the 2016-2017 school year
B. Procedures for parent member elections were established. Notice will be sent
home with students requiring a parent statement. Statements will be processed
into one document that will be sent home for parents to vote. Parents will receive
a paper ballot (one per family at a school).
C. Establishing goals for 2016-2017 academic year
1. Each principal gave a report of their school and shared upcoming events.
Discussion on the need for parent cabinet members to push for the district
to budget for updating the current middle school which will become MBI in
the 2017-2018 school year. It will need major structural and aesthetic
renovations in order for the school to be suitable for 3-5 grade students.
Discussion of the shift in grade levels for the 2017-2018 school year.
Primary school = CD-K, Elementary = 1-2, Intermediate = 3-5. Impacts
on new administration for MBI in 2018-2019 school year.
2. Community/School/ Parent partnership activities
a) 2nd annual Light it up night was discussed. Need a potential key
note speaker. Olympic athlete from CCU was mentioned...one of
the parent representatives, Mr. John Hill, will follow up.
b) Cultural nights - all three schools will collaborate on to make it a
cohesive experience for families
c) Relationships with worship centers - Ms. Colliver and Kayla
Maxwell gave a report of Wellspring Community Church Love
Week workday that occurred in July. Told others to contact the
church because they are more than willing to do service projects
during the school year as well.
V. Updates from MBP, MBE, MBI administration
A. Each principal gave a report on the opening of the school year. MBI and MBE
are focused on Kagan Training with their teachers to enhance engagement in the
classroom. MBP principal Christel Arnette thanked the group for welcoming her
back to the Myrtle Beach cluster area.
VI. Additional comments/updates
A. Thank you to everyone who made the opening of the 2016-2017 a huge success.
B. Erin Smith asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Kreel made a motion
and a second was given.
