Fruits and Vegetables

Children and Learning/D___lopment Goals:

Preassessment and Findings:


I asked _______ what his favorite vegetable was and he said cereal. I asked _______ if a
tomato was a fruit or vegetable and she said that she didnt know. I also asked her what her
favorite fruit was and she said it was an apple. I asked _______ what his favorite vegetable
and he said carrot and cereal. He said that his favorite fruit was watermelon. I asked _______
where vegetables come from and he said the ground. I asked him where fruit comes from
and he said the ground as well. I asked ____ if fruit was good for him and he said no. I asked
him if vegetables are good for him and he said yes. I asked ____ where vegetables come
from and she said the garden. I asked her when they grow and she said after we water them.
I asked ______ how long it takes for vegetables to grow and he said one day. I asked _______
why we eat fruits and vegetables and she said Because they are good for us. ______ told
me that Guinea pigs eat vegetables. From these assessments, I observed that the children
know that we eat fruits and vegetables, but they dont all know what a vegetable and fruit
necessarily are. They know that they grow, but they dont know how long it takes or when
certain fruits and vegetables grow.

Ideas to be Emphasized:
1. Fruit is sweet, fleshy and it comes from a tree or another plant and contains seeds.
2. Vegetables come from plants and can be the stem, leaf, root, and flower of the plant.
3. Fruit and vegetables grow on plants and trees.

Literacy Activities/ Books: Olivers Fruit Salad (WR F15), Vegetables (WR P A11), One red apple

Activity Description: On a table there will be sheets of paper that have written on them My
favorite fruit is a _____ and my favorite vegetable is a _____.
Child Objective: The children will work on their literacy skills as they write down their favorite
fruits and vegetables.
Intentional Teaching: A teacher can model writing down their favorite fruit or vegetable. They
can ask the children what their favorite is and why. They can help the children spell different fruits
and vegetables.

children to use the funnels to move the water

in it and then it sinks.

Intentional Teaching: As the children plant
seeds the teachers can ask them how the plant
will grow. Will they be roots, stems, on a trees,
a leaf. Teachers can tell children how certain
vegetables and fruits grow.
3rd: Aluminum Description: The Aluminum Ladder will be Aluminum Ladder (GG)
Ladder placed outside of the grass.
Objective: Ielg D2 G17 CI15 Child will walk up
stair using both feet. The children will work on
their gross motor skills as they walk up the
ladder and cross over it to go to the other side.
Intentional Teaching: A teacher can stand
near the children as they use this ladder telling
them to use one foot at a time and
encouraging them to switch off stepping with
both feet.

we go through all of them, I will tally them up and we will see

children count with me as I count how many points are on
each fruit or vegetable.
Whats missing. I will have a tray with 3 fruits and 3 vegetables. I will tell the Fruits and
Fruit and children to remember what is on the tray. I will cover the tray vegetables.
Vegetable. and remove one fruit or vegetable at a time. I will ask the (IWP)
children what one is missing. I will do this until I remove all
the fruit.
Phonemic I will pull out of a bag 5 different Items. 3 of them will start Items (IWP)
Awareness with the same letter. I will make the sound of that letter and
ask the children what items have that sound. I will do this
times.

Donut Song I will give each of the children a big penny. I will sing the Pennies
