Domain 4a Reflecting on Teaching (Analysis of planning and implementation of a lesson)

I have been teaching many lessons throughout my student teaching. You will see
attached a lesson plan and my reflection below:
For writing, we reviewed reviews and how to write them. We discussed favorite
restaurants and how to write them. Overall, it went okay. My advisor gave me a lot of great tips
to make the lesson easier. He explained how I need to think like a first grader! I would use
words that they might have not gotten. I also gave examples on restaurants that was all food.
He explained that there is more to restaurants then just the food which I didn't even think about
until he told me. Students paid attention but got a little rowdy when discussing food because
they wanted to give their opinion on everything!

Domain 4b Maintaining Accurate Records

Mrs. Trubin and I keep accurate records of instructional and non instructional events.
Every assessment we perform (writing, math, DRAs for reading) is posted on Google Docs. Mrs.
Trubin has a spread sheet for each subject. Each subject has different sections that
assignments are added. For example, we just gave out the Unit 6 assessment in math. Once I
graded the assessments, I put the percentage grade into Google Docs under his/her name.
When it comes to non-instructional things it is a little different. I have made a sheet which you
will see attached and every time we have something I will print it and put a check. For example,
we sent out forms last week to parents to receive permission to hand out twizzlers for our
science unit (students were to make beaks out of straws and try to pick up the twizzler). I printed
one out and made checks by the names we received so I could see who handed it in and who
didnt. I also use this when we have assessments that need to be returned and signed. (I have
also attached the permission slip for you to see).

Domain 4C Communicating with Families

Mrs. Trubin and I email out Tru-News every Friday. It is a newsletter of the things
students learned/did the past couple weeks. We also add important dates to the newsletter to
keep parents updated of everything. Every letter has Mrs. Trubins contact information for them
to contact her if necessary. Please see a copy of the newsletter attached.

Domain 4D Participating in the Professional Community

Throughout my student teaching I have been lucky enough to attend many events that
has taken place in my school. I have attended a book study, participated in a science workshop
to plan for unit 3, and attended weekly meetings to plan for Read Across America Week. The
one I have thoroughly enjoyed has been the book study. The book study is all about Interactive
Writing Across Grades. The meetings are monthly during our grade level meeting time. We
discuss one or two chapters each time. The past one was about chapter 3 and 4 (shared
experiences and prewriting). You will see attached the outline of our last book review.
Domain 4E Growing and Developing Professionally

Throughout my student teaching I have had the opportunity to attend multiple lab sites
for literacy. After the lab sites I am able to take the information and bring them back to the
classroom. My CT will then guide me through the information and will give me feedback as to
how I did and what I could do to make it better. The first lab site I attended was all about
interactive read aloud. Using different methods (turn and talk, stop and jot, etc.) throughout
them to keep students engaged and really learning from the book. You can see evidence of this
throughout my previous video taped lesson during the read aloud. The second lab site was all
about conversations after the read aloud. Allowing students to just converse about the book,
what their favorite part was, what they learned, what they agree or disagree about, etc. without
having to raise their hands. They sit in a circle and converse about topics! It was so cool to see
it done with some students. I have not had the opportunity to do this yet because we just had
the lab site but I am looking forward to doing it.

Domain 4F Showing Professionalism

Throughout my student teaching I have been asking and receiving advice from the
teachers and principal around me. I also give advice when I can! As a student teacher, I do not
feel it is right to make big decisions for the students but when it is asked of me, I will make
certain decisions. Danielson states, The teacher is highly proactive in serving students, seeking
out resources when needed (pg. 105). Throughout my student teaching, we have had some
difficult students as well as some students who may need extra help. I have created the
necessary documents/data to get the help some of the students needed. For example, we have
a student who is in need of instructional support for math. I collected some worksheets he
completed, homeworks, and assessments of his and put them together to hand with notes into
the required team member alongside my CT.
