1.0 Introduction
The purpose of this case study is to identify the water system
utilized in INTI International University, thereby understanding the basic
features and systems equipped in the building by means of experimental
learning. Through this study I was able to identify the water tanks and
other resources adopted in the University with regard to water system.
The survey for this study was done photographically and key points were
noted.

2.0 Methodology
The survey was carried out in academic and hostel block separately,
hence is presented accordingly. Photos of water tanks in the academic
block as well as hostel area were photographed where ever possible.
Where not accessible the facilities are highlighted by means of Google
Maps.

3.0 Academic Block

Academic block consists of mainly 6 buildings. These are Block A, B, C, D,
E and LRC.
Water Storage tanks: There are two circular tanks behind E
block. These tanks are made of concrete as are most tanks above
ground for water storage (Figure 1). These storage tanks store water
from resource points for pumping.

Figure 1: Circular tanks for

water storage.

Water tanks
located top of the building: There are six (6) tanks each located
on top of every block, two tanks on top of learning resource centre
(figure 3), and another on top HVAC building (Figure 2). These tanks
provide water for toilet. The mechanism used here is combined
mechanism of gravity and pumping.

HVAC building.

Water tank near parking: Water tank located near parking and
playground. (Figure 4).

Figure 4: Water tank for fire hose.

This is the piping system for fire

hose located in learning resource
centre.
Pressure gauges and alarm
system are provided in case of
increase in water pressure.
Water Filter system: Water filter system and piping system is
located near police post (figure 5 & 6 )

Figure 5: Water filter system

Figure 6: Water piping system.

3.1 Summary of Findings (Academic Block):

Two large water tanks (RC) located near block E for water storage.
One tank located near parking and playground for the purpose of
fire horse. Steel tank painted red.
Blue colour painted water tank located on top of HVAC building
behind block E.
There is a water tank for every block (A, B, C, D) and for the
Learning Resource Centre. These tanks are all rectangular steel
tanks grey in colour and, one extra tank above Learning Resource
Centre (Red colour steel rectangular tank).
Water filter system was located near Block E.
Two separate water piping systems were located near block E and
in LRC.
4.0 Student Facilities Block
This block consists of the following buildings.
- Building for Student facilities (Cafeteria, MPH, Student service)
- Inti College Nilai.
- Building for Sports hall, Dinning and SB
- Accommodation buildings as labelled in the picture below.
- Swimming Pool

4.2 Building for Student facilities (Cafeteria, MPH, Student service)

Water Tank: Water tank located on top of Cafeteria (figure 7). This
tanks supplies water for the toilets in this building by both gravity
and pumping system.

Figure 7: Water filter

system
Water Tank: There is another water tank on top of student service
(picture not available). This tanks supplies water for the toilets in
this building by both gravity and pumping system.

4.3 Accommodation Buildings

The building for accommodation can be classified in to these
categories according to the building structure and capacities. Hence the
water tanks utilized are different in each of these categories of buildings.
The buildings are categorised as follows.
Category 1: Aristotle, Beethoven & Confucius
With reference from picture under 4.1, it can be seen that for these
3 buildings two water tanks are provided on each end on top of the
building (figure 8).

Figure 8: Location of water

tanks
Category 2: Darwin, Einstein & Fleming
With reference from picture under 4.1, it can be seen that for these
3 buildings, two (2) water tanks are provided on each end on top of
the building (figure 9 & 10) and extra water tank (red colour) on the
road side (figure 11).

tanks

the other end of building

water tanks on front side of
the buildings category D
E and F
Category 3: Gandhi & Heisenberg
With reference from picture under 4.1, it can be seen that for these
2 buildings two (2) water tanks are provided on middle part of the
two blocks on top of the building (figure 13)
Figure 13: In these
categories two tanks are
provided. Picture shows one
tank viewed from road side.

Category 4: Jenner, Keynes, Lincoln & Mendel

With reference from picture under 4.1, it can be seen that for these
four buildings one (1) water tanks are provided on middle on top of
the building.
No picture was recorded.

Category 5: Newton, Pasteur, Rahmanputra & Shakespeare

With reference from picture under 4.1, it can be seen that for these
four buildings two water tanks are provided on each end on top of
the building.
No picture was recorded.

4.4 Hostel Block:

Water tank: Steel water tank was located in front of Heisenberg.
(figure 14)

4.5 Pumping Monitoring System.
Water flow monitoring gauges were provided in each block with
valves to check the water pumped to tanks (figure 15)

Figure 15
4.6 Summary of Findings
All buildings in this block also utilizes the gravity and pumping
combined.
As for the accommodation buildings the tanks differ in type as well
as capacity according to the building type categorised above.
Category 1 buildings were provided with 2 tanks.
Category 2 buildings were provided with 3 tanks.
Category 3 buildings were provided with 2 tanks.
Category 4 buildings were provided with 1 tank.
Category 5 buildings were provided with 2 tanks.
Pumping monitoring facilities were utilized in every building.

5.0 Conclusion
In concluding it has been observed that INTI uses the combined
mechanism for water supply for both the academic and hostel blocks.
Water storage facilities and water filter system were located inside the
academic block. There were separate water tanks for fire hose systems in
both hostel area and academic area. In case of extreme emergency, it is
applicable to use water from swimming pool to pump water for
firefighting.
