Welcome to Introduction to Operations Management - I


This page will guide you through the course syllabus and provide important information
related to this course.

This is a self-paced course on Introduction to Operations Management - I that will run


from 29 March 2016 to 2 August 2016. In this course, you will understand key aspects
of business operations and lean management including capacity, productivity, quality ,
and supply chain. Introduction to Operations Management - I helps you to understand
the role of OM in a firm and to develop abilities to structure and solve operations
related problems.

Prerequisites
You require basic concepts in statistics such as Mean and Standard Deviation.

COURSE AGENDA

The course comprises 5 sections. All 5 sections of courseware will be made available at the
beginning of the course on 29 March 2016, 03:30 UTC and will be visible till 02 August 2016,
03:30 UTC.

TIME COMMITMENT

Course Duration:

Self-paced: The course runs for 18 weeks and comprises 5 sections, as outlined above.
To understand more about the self-paced nature of the course, visit edX
Documentation.

Each section will require 5-7 hours to complete. This includes the time spent in going
through the course materials (videos and reading materials), taking up the assessments
and participating in the discussion forums.

Note: Week and Section may be used inter-changeably. The term 'Week' indicates a section
of courseware that will approximately take you 5-7 hours of a week to complete.

GRADING SCHEME

Grading Scheme
The course follows an End of Week assessment scheme, which consists of multiple choice
questions and scenario-based questions. There are 5 graded assessments in this course. The
score from each assessment will contribute to the final score, which you can track using the
Progress tab.

Note: The ungraded assessments are interspersed throughout the course to recall what you
have learnt so far. These do not count for final assessments and will not show up on the
Progress tab.

Each weeks assessment carries 20% weightage.

GRADED ASSESSMENTS

Instructions

Graded assessments have due dates, or the last possible time


by which you may submit an assessment. Once the due date
has passed, you cannot receive credit for any incomplete
problems in the assessment. The name of the graded assessment appears under the name
of the learning sequence along with an icon in the course accordion. The image on the right
shows an example of how this will appear to learners.

Please ensure the following:

Click the Save button to save your answer. These answers will not be graded at this
stage.
Click the Check button at the end of every question to record your choice and get your
answer graded.

Note:

You need to score 50% (overall) to pass the assessment.


Please check the number of attempts and due date specified for each assessment.

How Can You Find the Correct Answers to An Assessment?


The correct answers for an assessment will be made available after the due date for the
assessment has passed. The "Show Answer" button will become visible and you can click on
it to find the correct answer to an assessment question.
