the months following the
Year, general assemblies Lassociations et clubs se mul-
clubs and associations are tiplient durant les mois qui
held almost everywhere. The
way ahead for national,
regional and local work and co-
existence in the clubs is dis-
cussed and laid down at these
events. I am always happy to
take part in these assemblies, in
order to ensure that contact
with the grassroots is kept alive
and well. Along with other
things, it is possible to learn
what the individual dog owners
are concerned with on a day-to-
day basis and what is rubbing
them up the wrong way. It is all
about the daily questions on
keeping dogs and life in the
clubs. In addition, the official
rules and regulations are dis-
cussed and, from time to time,
also criticised. Discussions
such as these interest me and I
try in each case to find out
whether the FCI can help to
resolve any of these problems.
We believe that the FCI really
is in the thoughts of the indi-
vidual dog owners. However,
only a small fraction of the ac-
tive dog owners has the slight-
est idea of the existence of our
organisation. It is understand-
able that the dog owners are
closest to their own clubs and
perhaps also know the regional
or national umbrella asso-
ciations. And the FCI? It is lo-
cated without doubt right at the
end of this chain and is often to
a large extent ignored and mis-
understood, even by the im-
portant functionaries in the
world of cynology. We can, in
this respect, under no cir-

dans les associations. Je par-
ticipe volontiers ces vne-
ments afin de garder le contact
avec la base. Ils permettent no-
tamment de dcouvrir les pr-
occupations quotidiennes des
propritaires de chiens et les
problmes quils peuvent ren-
contrer. Il sagit de questions
journalires relatives la dten-
tion de chiens et la vie au sein
des associations ; par ailleurs,
des rglementations et dcrets
font souvent lobjet de discus-
sions et, loccasion, de cri-
tiques. Ces discussions min-
tressent et je tente constam-
ment de savoir si la FCI pour-
rait contribuer rsoudre les
problmes rencontrs.
Nous pensons que la FCI est
rellement prsente dans les es-
prits des propritaires de
chiens. Et pourtant, mme par-
mi les propritaires actifs, seule
une minorit connat lexis-
tence de notre organisation. Il
est comprhensible que ces pro-
pritaires soient attachs prio-
ritairement leur propre asso-
ciation et connaissent, ven-
tuellement, lexistence dune
organisation nationale ou rgio-
nale. Mais quen est-il de la
FCI? Elle se situe sans nul
doute en fin de liste et, souvent,
elle est peine perue et com-
prise, y compris par les per-
sones occupant des fonctions
importantes dans la cynologie.
In den Monaten nach den
Jahreswechseln finden meist
berall die Generalversamm-
lungen der Verbnde und Ver-
eine statt. An diesen Veranstal-
tungen werden die Weichen fr
das nationale, regionale und lo-
kale Arbeiten und Zusammen-
leben in den Vereinen diskutiert
und festgelegt. Um den Kontakt
zur Basis zu behalten, nehme
ich gerne an solchen Versamm-
lungen teil. Hier vernimmt man
unter anderem, was den ein-
zelnen Hundebesitzer im Alltag
tatschlich beschftigt und wo
ihn der Schuh drckt. Es sind
das die alltglichen Fragen zur
Hundehaltung und zum Leben
in den Vereinen; zudem werden
oft amtliche Vorschriften und
Erlasse besprochen und diese
gelegentlich auch kritisiert.
Solche Diskussionen interes-
sieren mich und ich versuche
jeweils herauszufinden, ob die
FCI beim Lsen dieser Proble-
me beitragen knnte.
Wir glauben, die FCI wre in
den Kpfen der einzelnen
Hundehalter wirklich prsent.
Jedoch wei selbst von den ak-
tiven Hundebesitzern nur ein
sehr kleiner Teil berhaupt von
der Existenz unserer Organisa-
tion. Es ist verstndlich, dass
den Hundehaltern der eigene
Verein am Nchsten steht, und
sie vielleicht auch noch den
regionalen oder nationalen
Dachverband. Und die FCI? Sie
steht zweifellos am Schluss
dieser Reihe und wird selbst
von wichtigen Funktionstrgern
der Kynologie oftmals kaum
wahrgenommen und verstan-
den. Wir knnen uns hier, was

Se trata de las cuestiones del

clubs; adems, con frecuencia
se debaten - y en ocasiones se
critican - las normas y los de-
cretos oficiales. Este tipo de de-
bates me interesan mucho, y
siempre intento descubrir si la
FCI puede contribuir a solucio-
nar los problemas en cuestin.
Nosotros, de hecho, pensamos
que la FCI est muy presente en
las mentes de los propietarios
singulares de perros. Sin em-
bargo, incluso entre los propie-
tarios de perros que son activos
slo una pequea parte de los
mismos conoce siquiera la exis-
tencia de nuestra organizacin.

Apart from the much greater
financial resources and the con-
sequent regular presence in the
media, almost every child
knows about the existence of
FIFA from the moment they
start kicking a ball. So the mo-
ment young people step onto
the football field they are con-
fronted with the rules of the in-
ternational association and they
quickly learn that a superior
power has to watch over the
events which take place on the
football pitch. Why am I men-
tioning this? Simply because it
is essential that the FCI too
must establish a greater pres-
ence amongst the cynological
grass roots.
At shows, we have succeeded
in making people aware of our
existence by using banners and
flags and, moreover, the FCI
logo is being included more
and more frequently and con-
sistently on the papers of the
clubs and associations: a must
for example on the pedigree do-
cuments and the programmes
and catalogues concerning FCI
events.
We have to intensify our efforts
with all the means at our dis-
posal and at every opportunity
to raise the profile of the FCI.
This, however, is only feasible
if we get the support of the na-
tional associations and their
clubs, including the represen-
tatives of national and inter-
national cynology (e.g. club
and association functionaries,
judges, etc.). The branches of
the FCI on their part will do
their utmost to start certain PR
events and activities in the cur-
rent year and to make the nec-
essary resources available.
So, for the not-so-new 2008, I
wish you much joy and success
with your cynological activi-
ties.

Nous pourrions nous comparer
- ce que nous faisons dailleurs
assez souvent- la FIFA, la f-
dration internationale de foot-
ball. Mis part des moyens fi-
nanciers considrablement plus
importants et une prsence
lavenant dans les mdias, tous
ceux qui sintressent au foot-
ball savent que la FIFA existe.
Cest ainsi que les jeunes sont
confronts au rglement de la
fdration internationale ds
quils pntrent sur un terrain
de football et quils apprennent
rapidement quune super-
puissance veille la bonne
tenue des vnements se drou-
lant sur le terrain. Mais pour-
quoi est-ce que je vous parle de
cela ? Tout simplement parce
quil est urgent que la FCI soit,
elle aussi, plus prsente auprs
de sa base.
Nous sommes parvenus nous
rendre plus visibles lors des ex-
positions grce des ban-
deroles et des drapeaux ; par
ailleurs, le logo de la FCI est
dsormais de plus en plus
rgulirement imprim sur les
documents des associations et
des clubs. Il sagit dailleurs
dune obligation en ce qui con-
cerne les pedigrees et les pro-
grammes et catalogues de nos
manifestations.
Nous devons signaler plus fr-
quemment lexistence de la FCI
par tous les moyens et toutes
les occasions. Cela nest toute-
fois possible que si les associa-
tions nationales et leurs clubs,
de mme que les intervenants
de la cynologie nationale et
internationale (par exemple les
employs des associations et
des clubs, les juges, etc.) nous
apportent un soutien efficace.
Le Secrtariat de la FCI fera de
son ct le ncessaire afin de
lancer diverses campagnes de
relations publiques ds cette
anne et consacrera les fonds
ncessaires cette opration.
Je vous souhaite beaucoup de
plaisir et de succs dans le cad-
re de vos activits cynologiques
pour cette anne 2008 mme si
celle-ci est dj bien entame.

gischen Basis vermehrt prsent
sein sollte.
An den Ausstellungen ist es uns
gelungen, mit Transparenten
und Fahnen auf unsere Exis-
tenz hinzuweisen, zudem ist
das FCI-Logo nun immer hu-
figer und konsequenter auf den
Papieren der Verbnde und
Vereinen enthalten. Ein Muss
beispielsweise auf den Ab-
stammungsurkunden sowie den
Programmen und Katalogen
von FCI-Veranstaltungen.
Wir mssen mit allen Mitteln
und bei allen Gelegenheiten
vermehrt auf die FCI hin-
weisen. Dies allerdings ist nur
mglich, wenn uns die Landes-
verbnde und ihre Vereine, wie
auch die Exponenten der na-
tionalen und internationalen
Kynologie (z.B. Verbands- und
Vereinsfunktionre, Richter
usw.) dabei tatkrftig unter-
sttzen. Die Geschftsstelle der
FCI ihrerseits wird das Not-
wendige tun, um noch im lau-
fenden Jahr gewisse PR-Ak-
tionen zu starten und dazu die
erforderlichen Mittel zur Verf-
gung zu stellen.
Fr das schon nicht mehr ganz
junge Jahr 2008 wnsche ich
Ihnen bei Ihren kynologischen
Aktivitten viel Freude und Er-
folg.

demos aunque s lo solemos
hacer otras veces comparar-
nos con la FIFA, la federacin
internacional de ftbol. Aparte
unos medios financieros mucho
mayores y de que est presente
peridicamente y con frecuen-
cia en los medios de comunica-
cin, prcticamente cualquier
nio sabe lo que es la FIFA na-
da ms empezar a jugar con el
baln. As, a los jvenes, en
bol, ya se les ensean las reglas
de esta federacin internacio-
nal, y aprenden con rapidez que
hay un poder absoluto que
debe regular y supervisar los
acontecimientos y hechos que
se producen en los campos de
ftbol. Por qu menciono yo
este tema? Sencillamente por-
que es urgente, es necesario que
tambin la FCI tenga mucha
ms presencia en la base de la
cinologa.
En las exposiciones hemos
conseguido llamar la atencin
sobre nuestra existencia me-
diante pancartas y banderas,
adems el logotipo de la FCI
aparece cada vez con ms fre-
cuencia en los papeles y do-
cumentos de las federaciones y
de los clubes. Una condicin
obligatoria, por ejemplo, en los
pedigrees as como en los
programas y catlogos de los
eventos y actos de la FCI.
Debemos hacer referencia a la
FCI y llamar la atencin sobre
ella con todos los medios dis-
ponibles y en todas las ocasio-
nes posibles. Sin embargo, esto
slo es posible, si las federa-
ciones nacionales y sus clubs,
as como tambin los represen-
tantes ms importantes de la
cinologa nacional e interna-
cional (p. ej. los funcionarios
de las federaciones y de los
clubs, los jueces, etc.) nos apo-
yan activamente en ello. Por su
parte, la secretara de la FCI
har lo necesario para iniciar
todava en este ao corriente
determinadas acciones de rela-
ciones pblicas y para poner a
disposicin los medios necesa-
rios.
Aunque ya hace algn tiempo
que comenz, para este ao
2008 les deseo a ustedes mucha
satisfaccin y xito en sus
actividades cinolgicas.

Dogs participating in the 2008
Eukanuba World Challenge
will be selected by the National
Kennel Clubs of the invited
countries or, in a few cases, ac-
cording to clear rules allowing
for an independent selection of
the top dog. The selection will
be based on specific criteria in-
cluding the dogs show wins
during the qualifying period.
EUKANUBA WORLD CHALLENGE
WINNERS 2007
The 2007 Eukanuba World
Challenge winner, selected by
FCI Vice President, Mr Karl
Reisinger, hailed from the
Very Vigie Kennel in Swit-
zerland. This stunning Ameri-
can Cocker Spaniel Multi Ch
Very Vigie Vamos A La Playa,
bred by Mr Laurent Pichard,
was handled to his success by
Mr Hughes Schuh. Vamos de-
feated 39 top-winning dogs to
take the title. Along with the
title and the Eukanuba World
Challenge trophy he took home
for his owners a sum of
$10,000 prize money and a fur-
ther $5,000 recognition prize
money for the Swiss Kennel
Club. The runner-up was An-
drea Laruccia and Carlos Sou-
tos Dobermann Wizard Black
de Akido San from Argentina,
who received $3,000 prize
money. The first runner-up
was Hideka Tamuras Border

land, France, Norway, Sweden,
Switzerland and Austria. From
Finland, one Finnish hound,
one Swedish basset and one
beagle entered the solo compe-
tition, as did one dunker hound,
one Hygen hound and one Hal-
den hound from Norway, one
Schiller hound and one beagle
from Sweden, one Schwyz
hound and two Luzern hounds
from Switzerland, one Luzern
hound from Germany, and two
Tyrolean hounds from Austria.
Right from the outset, the
hounds work was made diffi-
cult by the pine and spruce
forests dotted with some
beeches and with some open
spaces, whose main game is
rabbit, fox, deer and elk. Des-
pite the suitable terrain, the ex-
treme weather conditions se-
verely impaired the dogs per-
formance, since the dry, cold
weather changed into light
snowfall the night before the
competition. This demanded
the utmost in concentration
from the dogs noses, and most
of the hounds didnt manage to
track down a rabbit during an
intensive, four-hour search.
Hence, of 14 solo dogs, only
four hounds were awarded pri-
zes. The two packs also failed
to achieve sufficient results,
which meant that no European
Cup was awarded in this com-
petition. Trial manager Curt-
Christer Gustafsson and orga-
niser Henrik Gullans arraned a
festive presentation ceremony.

a loosely-formed union. In
Spring 2007, it was registered
as an association with its
headquarters in Belgium.
After the former president
(from Spain) left office, Aus-
trian Paul Cech was unani-
mously elected new president.
The other members of the
board come from Canada,
Israel, Belgium and Croatia.
Cech was elected first chairman
of the board in March 2007,
and was responsible for canine
sport and for research into the
subject of the relationship
between man and dog.
Paul Cech: To date, reporting
by the WDPA journalists has
been orientated very one-sided-
ly towards dog shows and
breeding. I am now concerned
with better positioning canine
sport in particular, the many
new types of canine sport
within the media. At the same
time, scientific studies on the
subject of the relationship be-
tween man and dog are con-
tinually being carried out
throughout the world too little
attention is currently devoted to
them.
The WDPA currently compris-
es approximately 320 dog jour-
nalists writing for approximate-
ly 500 dog magazines on all
five continents. According to
Cech, a global advertising of-
fensive is being planned for
2008 with the objective of in-
creasing the number of mem-
bers, thereby increasing the
clout of the WDPA. Service for
the members is also set to
improve.

gibt es weltweit permanent
neue wissenschaftliche Studien
zur Mensch-Hund-Beziehung,
die in den Medien noch zu
wenig Beachtung finden.
Der WDPA gehren derzeit ca.

THREATS TO HEALTH
Insufficient supply of water or
vomiting and diarrhea can lead to
dehydration. The kidneys have
greater difficulty expelling waste
matter, the urine becomes more
concentrated and the chance of
urinary stones and bladder grit is
increased. Furthermore, the body
is not able to cool as much due to
less evaporation, resulting in pos-
sible overheating. Severe hyper-
thermia is dangerous and can
have serious effects on all sy-
stems in the body.
PREVENTION IS IMPORTANT
As a consequence, animals have
to drink sufficiently to stay
healthy. Especially, if they are
mainly fed dry dog food. If dogs
receive a tasty drink, they can be-
come conditioned to ingest the
drink even when they do not feel
thirsty. In this way increased
fluid absorption can take place.

mit Trockennahrung ernhrt wer-
den. Wenn Hunde ein schmack-
haftes Getrnk bekommen, kn-
nen sie darauf konditioniert wer-
den, das Getrnk auch dann zu
sich zu nehmen, wenn sie nicht
durstig sind. So kann eine erhh-
te Flssigeitsaufnahme erfolgen.

there were fewer puppies per
litter. This seems to confirm the
trend for smaller breeds.
The effects of globalisation can
also be observed in the world of
cynology. The growth of the

a preference for small dogs
which are easy to look after.
That the interest in pedigree dogs
and activities with the dogs is on
the increase can be deduced from
the increase in the number of
members in the national organi-
sations. In 2007, the number of
members increased by 535,000,

of new kennel names remains

nually, developments which de-
viate significantly are observed

Most Beautiful Dog Champion-
ships (740) were dogs with Fin-
nish owners. In places two and
three respectively were Russia
with 639 award-winning dogs

It is gratifying to see the in-
creased number of championship
titles in the Utility area. In 2006,
57 dogs were awarded the high-
est performance title Interna-
tional Utility Dog Champion
(CIT); 2007 it was 70 dogs. Italy
led Germany and France in this
field. Once again, the Dachs-
hunds made up the strongest
group ahead of the English Set-
ters and Pointers.
The International Field Trials
were also dominated by the Ital-
ians. They managed to get 27
dogs to the top places. France
was in next place with 13 dogs,
followed by Austria.
No less than nine nations appear
at the top of the coursing compe-
titions. Germany dominates this
discipline with a clear lead ahead
of Switzerland in the next place.
As always, the top scores in Agi-
lity and Obedience went to dogs
from Scandinavia, with Den-
mark, Finland and Norway pro-
viding the champions.
As Utility examinations are now
only obligatory in the European
section, the top performances are
grouped here. With regard to
global and section competitions,
there are always dogs coming
from different regions which end
up on the winners rostrum but
the conditions for an interna-
tional Utility Dog Title are met
almost exclusively by dogs from
Europe.
Special thanks go to the dog
handlers who continually achieve
top-class performances with their
dogs. But they also must be ex-
tended to the event organisers
who often invest significant
funds so that we can confirm the
evidence of our breeds high

regiones que consiguen cumplir
las condiciones para un ttulo de
trabajo internacional, siendo
empero, casi siempre y de forma
exclusiva perros europeos.

HISTORY AND EVOLUTION
The first Romanian Kennel
Club was founded on April 10th,

HISTOIRE ET DEVELOPPEMENT
La premire association canine
nationale roumaine a t fonde
le 10 avril 1927 sous lgide de
son Altesse Royale le Prince
Nicholas de Roumanie. Cette
association est devenue mem-
bre de la FCI en 1933.
Aprs 1945, sous la domination
du rgime communiste, lorga-
nisation a cess dexister durant
plus de 20 ans. Ce nest quen
1969 quune nouvelle organisa-
tion a t fonde Arad par un
groupe denthousiastes sous le

westeuropischen Verkehrswe-
gen, und ist dabei eine romani-
sche Sprachinsel in Mittel- und
Osteuropa. Von der Karpaten
bis zum Schwarzen Meer, von
der schnen Bukowina mit ih-
ren einzigartigen, bemalten
Klstern bis zum himmlischen
Donaudelta ist Rumnien eine
der interessantesten Mischun-
gen aus wichtigen und ver-
schiedenen Kulturen, die Orient
und Okzident in sich vereinen.
Die Natur hat es gut mit uns ge-
meint und wir Rumnen haben
immer groe Achtung vor ihr
gezeigt. Tiere spielen seit Jahr-
hunderten eine wichtige Rolle
in unserem Leben das bedeu-
tet: natrlich auch Hunde!
GESCHICHTE UND ENTWICKLUNG
Der erste Rumnische Kennel
Club wurde am 10. April 1927
unter der Schirmherrschaft von
Seiner Kniglichen Hoheit
Prinz Nicholas von Rumnien
gegrndet. Dieser Verein wur-
de 1933 Mitglied der FCI.
Nach 1945, unter der kommu-
nistischen Herrschaft, hrte die-
se Organisation fr ber 20
Jahre auf zu existieren. Erst
1969, in Arad, wurde von einer
Gruppe Enthusiasten eine neue
Organisation unter dem Namen
comunicacin de Europa Orien-
tal y Europa Occidental y es, a
la vez, una isla de lengua rom-
nica en medio de Europa Cen-
tral y Oriental. Desde los mon-
tes Crpatos hasta el Mar Ne-
gro, desde la bella Bucovina,
con sus extraordinarios monas-
terios y conventos pintados,
hasta el magnfico Delta del
Danubio, Rumania es una de
las mezclas ms interesantes de
diversas culturas relevantes que
unen Oriente y Occidente. La
naturaleza siempre nos ha sido
favorable, y siempre la hemos
respetado profundamente. Des-
de hace siglos, los animales
juegan un papel importante en
nuestras vidas por lo tanto:
naturalmente tambin los pe-
rros!
HISTORIA Y DESARROLLO
El primer Kennel Club Rumano
fue fundado el 10 de abril de
1927, bajo el patrocinio de su

After 1945, under the commu-
nist regime, this organization
ceased to exist for over 20
years. It was only in 1969, in
Arad, that a group of enthu-
siasts founded a new organiza-

ciatia Chinologica Romana
(Romanian Cynological Asso-
ciation). On June 22nd, 1973 it
became an associated member
of the Fdration Cynologique
Internationale.
During the communist period,
A.Ch.R. and its members were
confronted with a long series of
difficulties regarding breeding,
organising shows, importing or
exporting pure bred dogs.
Many breeds actually disap-
peared from the cynological
scene, many bloodlines of great
value were extinguished.
The year 1990 brought to Ro-
mania an important political
change. The same year, a Gen-
eral Assembly meeting of the
National Kennel Club took
place in Bucharest. New Ar-
ticles of Association, based on
the need of reorganising our ac-
tivities on new democratic
grounds, were agreed.
Since 1996 until today, the Ro-
manian Kennel Club has been
developing excellently and cy-
nological life in Romania has
substantially improved. Since
2001, Romania has been ac-

la vie cynologique sest nette-
ment amliore en Roumanie.
En 2001, la Roumanie a t re-
connue par la FCI en tant que
membre part entire.

Whrend der kommunistischen
ra hatten der RKV und seine
Mitglieder mit einer Vielzahl
an Schwierigkeiten in Bezug
auf Zucht, Ausstellungsorgani-
sation und der Ein- und Aus-
fuhr von Rassehunden zu
kmpfen. Viele Rassen sind aus
der kynologischen Szene ver-
schwunden; viele gute Stamm-
bume wurden ausgelscht.
Das Jahr 1990 brachte eine
wichtige politische Vernde-
rung in Rumnien mit sich. Im
selben Jahr fand eine General-
versammlung des Nationalen
Kennel Clubs in Bukarest statt.
Aufgrund der Notwendigkeit,
unsere Aktivitten auf neuem,
demokratischem Boden neu zu
organisieren, wurden neue Sta-
tuten verabschiedet.
Der Rumnische Kennel Club
hat sich von 1996 bis heute
groartig entwickelt und das
kynologische Leben in Rum-
nien hat sich deutlich verbes-
mania. En 2001 Rumania fue
der FCI als Vollmitglied aner-
kannt.
Die Statistiken von 2006 lassen
uns auf eine weitere positive
Entwicklung der rumnischen
Kynologie hoffen. Unser Ken-
nel Club hat ber 10.000 Mit-
glieder und im letzten Jahr wur-
den bei uns ber 10.000
Stammbume registriert. In vie-
len wichtigen Ausstellungen
konnten von rumnischen
Zchtern, die eine ganze Men-
ge internationaler Champions
hervorgebracht haben, ausge-
zeichnete Ergebnisse erzielt
werden.
PRIORITTEN
Im Lauf der letzten zehn Jahre
musste der Rumnische Kennel
Club sich einer langen Liste an
Prioritten widmen. Zunchst
haben wir es als unsere Pflicht
angesehen, unsere Organisation
auf moderner Ebene umzuge-
stalten und das gesamte Organi-
sationssystem umzustrukturie-
ren. Weiters galt und gilt es, die
Regeln der FCI zu befolgen
und strikt anzuwenden, und
sich fr die Anerkennung von
drei rumnischen Rassen einzu-
setzen.

mejorado notablemente en Ru-
reconocida por la FCI como
miembro de pleno derecho.
Las estadsticas del ao 2006
son esperanzadoras, pues indi-
can que el desarrollo de la cino-
loga rumana continuar siendo
positivo. Nuestro Kennel Club
tiene ms de 10.000 miembros,
y el ao pasado registramos
ms de 10.000 libros de orge-
nes. Los criadores rumanos,
que han proporcionado una se-
rie importante de campeones
internacionales, pudieron obte-
ner unos resultados excelentes
en muchas exposiciones impor-
tantes.
PRIORIDADES
Durante los ltimos diez aos
el Kennel Club Rumano tuvo
que dedicar su atencin a una
larga lista de prioridades. En
primer lugar consideramos que
era nuestra obligacin reformar

The 2006 statistics give us hope
for a positive development of
Romanian cynology. Our Ken-
nel Club has more than 10,000
members and more than 10,000
pedigrees have been registered
with us the previous year. Ex-
cellent results were obtained in
many important shows by Ro-
manian breeders who have pro-
duced quite a number of inter-
national champions.
PRIORITIES
During the last ten years, the
Romanian Kennel Club had to
deal with a long list of priori-
ties. First of all, it was compul-
sory for us to rebuild our orga-
nization on a modern basis and
to restructure the whole orga-
nizing system, to follow and
apply strictly the FCI rules and
to work towards the recognition
of three Romanian breeds.
We are happy to say, now, that
our efforts to reach our goals
have been successful, by and
large. In relatively short time,
we have managed to adapt our
rules and regulations to the
ones of the FCI. The strict and
scientific process for the selec-
tion of our national breeds is in
the final stage. Two of them,
the Carpathian and the Mioritic,
have been provisionally recog-
nized by the FCI since 2005
and the third one, the Bucovina
Shepherd, is awaiting its provi-
sional recognition from the FCI

Les statistiques de 2006 nous
permettent de voir lavenir de
la cynologie roumaine avec op-
timisme. Notre association
compte plus de 10.000 mem-
bres et plus de 10.000 pedigrees
ont t dlivrs lan dernier en
Roumanie. Les leveurs rou-
mains ont obtenu dexcellents
rsultats lors de nombreuses ex-
positions importantes et nom-
bre dentre eux ont produit des
champions internationaux.
PRIORIT
Au cours des dix dernires
annes, lassociation canine
roumaine a d se consacrer
une longue liste de priorits.
Dans un premier temps, nous
avons d moderniser notre or-
ganisation et la restructurer
pour la rendre oprationnelle.
Par ailleurs, il convient de sui-
vre les rgles de la FCI et de les
appliquer de faon stricte et de
sengager en vue de la recon-
naissance des trois races rou-
maines.
Nous sommes heureux de pou-
voir dire que nos efforts sont
prsent grandement rcom-
penss. En lespace de relative-
ment peu de temps, nous
sommes parvenus adapter nos
statuts et nos rglements ceux
de la FCI. Le processus scienti-
fique svre de slection de nos
races nationales est entr dans
sa phase finale. Deux dentre
elles, le Carpatin et le Mioritic,
sont provisoirement reconnues
par la FCI depuis 2005. La troi-
sime, le Bucovine, attend cette
mme reconnaissance par le
Comit gnral de la FCI.

gen, unsere Ziele zu erreichen,
jetzt im Groen und Ganzen
Erfolge zeigen. In relativ kurzer
Zeit haben wir es geschafft, un-
sere Statuten an die der FCI an-
zupassen. Der strenge und wis-
senschaftliche Prozess zur Aus-
wahl unserer nationalen Rassen
befindet sich im Endstadium.
Zwei dieser Rassen, der Carpa-
thian und der Mioritic, sind seit
2005 provisorisch von der FCI
anerkannt. Der dritte, der Buco-
vina Shepherd, erwartet seine
provisorische Anerkennung
durch das FCI Generalkomitee.
STRUKTUR, AKTIVITTEN UND
AUSSTELLUNGEN
Die interne Struktur unseres
Kennel Clubs ist modern und
demokratisch. Eigentlich sind
wir ein fderaler Verbund,
d.h. ein Zusammenschluss
rechtlich anerkannter, lokaler,
unabhngiger Clubs und natio-
naler Rasseclubs. Momentan
haben wir als Mitglieder 37 lo-
kale All Breed-Vereine, 20 na-
tionale Rasseclubs und zwei
Arbeitsclubs.
Der Rumnische Kennel Club
organisiert jedes Jahr eine Viel-
zahl an Veranstaltungen: natio-
nale und internationale All
Breed-Ausstellungen, Club-
Ausstellungen, Arbeitsprfun-
gen, Kurse, Seminare und Pr-
fungen.
Eine der ersten Hundeausstel-
lungen in Rumnien wurde
1921 in Temeswar abgehalten.
Seitdem wurden viele Ausstel-
lungen in Arad, Oradea, Cluj
Napoca, Bukarest und Temes-
war organisiert.
Seit der Grndung des neuen
Rumnischen Kennel Clubs
nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg
wurden allen Schwierigkei-

mano de los Crpatos) y el

mano de Mioritza), ya estn re-
conocidas provisionalmente por
la FCI desde el ao 2005. La
tercera, el Pastor Bucovina
(Perro de Pastor de los Bal-
canes), est esperando a que el
Comit General de la FCI la re-
conozca provisionalmente.
ESTRUCTURA, ACTIVIDADES Y
EXPOSICIONES
La estructura interna de nuestro
Kennel Club es moderna y de-
mocrtica. De hecho, somos
una "asociacin federal, es de-
cir, una agrupacin de clubs lo-
cales e independientes, legal-
mente reconocidos, y clubs de
raza nacionales. Actualmente
nuestros miembros se compo-
nen de 37 clubs locales de todas
las razas (All Breed), 20 clubs
de raza nacionales y dos clubs
de trabajo.
El Kennel Club Rumano orga-
niza cada ao mltiples actos y
eventos: exposiciones All
Breed nacionales e internacio-
nales, exposiciones de clubs,
pruebas de trabajo, cursos, se-
minarios y pruebas.
Una de las primeras exposicio-
nes caninas en Rumania se ce-
lebr el ao 1921, en Temes-
war. Desde entonces se orga-
nizaron muchas exposiciones
en Arad, Oradea, Cluj Napoca,
Bucarest y Temeswar.

AND SHOWS
The internal structure of our
Kennel Club is a modern and
democratic one. Actually, we
are a federal composite, i.e.
an association of legally recog-
nized, local, independent clubs
and national breed clubs. At
present we have as members 37
local all breed associations, 20
national breed clubs and two
working clubs.
Every year the Romanian Ken-
nel Club organises a large num-
ber of events: national and in-
ternational all breed shows,
club shows, working trials,
courses, seminars and exams.
One of the first dog shows in
Romania was held in 1921 in
Timisoara. Many other shows
have been organised since then
in Arad, Oradea, Cluj Napoca,
Bucharest and Timisoara.
Upon founding the new Roma-
nian Kennel Club after World
War II, despite the difficulties,
cynological activities continued
and dog shows took place all
over the country.
As statistics show, the number
of entries for shows has in-
creased over the past ten years.
Last year we organised 14 in-
ternational shows, 19 national
shows, 37 club shows and 4
National Championship breed
shows, 47 working trials and 8
hunting dog trials.
Romania has had the privilege
to organise a Union show (the
Central European Cup) twice in
Arad, with massive internation-

Lassociation canine roumaine
organise chaque anne un
grand nombre de manifesta-
tions, dexpositions toutes races
nationales et internationales,
des examens de travail, des
cours, des sminaires et des
concours.
Une des premires expositions
canines roumaines a eu lieu en
1921 Temesvar. Depuis, de
nombreuses expositions ont t
organises Arad, Oradea, Cluj
Napoca, Bucarest et Temesvar.
Depuis la fondation de la nou-
velle association canine rou-
maine, aprs la seconde guerre
mondiale, toutes les activits
cynologiques ont t mainte-
nues malgr les difficults ren-
contres et des expositions ca-
nines ont eu lieu dans le pays
tout entier.
Les statistiques montrent que le
nombre dinscriptions aux ex-
positions a augment au cours
des dix dernires annes.
Lan dernier, 14 expositions in-
ternationales, 19 expositions
nationales, 37 expositions de
clubs et 4 championnats natio-
naux (spciales de race) ainsi
que 47 preuves de travail et 8
preuves de chasse ont t or-
ganiss.
La Roumanie a eu lhonneur
dorganiser deux fois une expo-
sition majeure (coupe dEurope
centrale) Arad avec de nom-
breux concurrents trangers.
Depuis 2006, nous organisons
une exposition internationale
couronne de succs Targu
Mures, place sous le patronage
du lgendaire Comte Dracula,
une authentique marque de fa-
brique roumaine. De nombreu-
ses autres expositions natio-
nales et internationales impor-
tantes ont lieu Bucarest, Te-
mesvar, Cluj Napoca, Oradea,

sich die Zahl der Anmeldungen

eine erfolgreiche internationale
Ausstellung in Targu Mures,
unter der Schirmherrschaft des
legendren Grafen Dracula,
einer echten rumnischen
Marke. Viele andere wichtige
nationale und internationale
Ausstellungen werden in Buka-
rest, Temeswar, Cluj Napoca,
Oradea, Sibiu, Constanta und
Satu Mare abgehalten.
RUMNISCHE RASSEN
Rumnische Rassen sind seit
Jahrhunderten urkundlich er-
whnt. Der erste Standard fr Cluj Napoca, Oradea, Sibiu,
den Carpathian Shepherd wur-
de 1934 in Revista Carpati
verffentlicht.
Seit Anfang der 80er Jahre hat
eine Gruppe von Fachleuten
und Richtern begonnen, die
rumnischen Rassen zu analy-
sieren und auszuwhlen. Alle
drei Rassen, Carpatin, Mioritic

2006 organizamos exitosas ex-
posiciones internacionales en
Targu Mures, bajo el patrocinio
del legendario Conde Drcu-
la, una autntica marca ruma-
na. Asimismo se celebran mu-
chas otras exposiciones nacio-
nales e internacionales impor-
tantes en Bucarest, Temeswar,
Constanta y Satu Mare.
RAZAS RUMANAS
Las razas rumanas ya se men-
cionan documentalmente desde
hace siglos. El primer estndar
para el Perro de Pastor Rumano
de los Crpatos (Carpatn) se
public en 1934, en la Revista
Carpati.

ROMANIAN BREEDS
Romanian breeds have been
mentioned in documents for
centuries.
The year 1934 brought the first
standard of the Carpathian
Shepherd which was published
in Revista Carpati.
In the beginning of the 1980s, a
group of specialists and judges
started to analyse and scientifi-
cally select the Romanian
breeds. All three breeds, Carpa-
tin, Mioritic and Bucovina, are
shepherd dogs used for centu-
ries in our mountains. Their
beauty, character and utility has
made them very useful and
their popularity has increased
constantly over the last 30
years.
Sustained work of the breeders
and breed specialists brought
two of these indigenous Roma-
nian dogs, Carpatin and Miori-
tic, the provisional recognition
in 2005. The third one, the Bu-
covina Shepherd is still waiting
its provisional approval by the
FCI.
