The Integral Paradigm: The Truth o f Faith

and the Social Sciences
Vincent Jeffries

This article proposes a paradigm for the social sciences are derived from Pitirim A.
Sorokin's writing about integralism. conception of a three-component system of truth and
knowledge that includes the senses, reason, and faith is the foundation of this integral
perspective. Integralism intended as a solution to the current crisis of fragmentation and
anomie (a state of chaos, tapa rules) in the social sciences.
1. Sorokin's Integralism
integralism can be considered as a new paradigm so that has the potential to move the
social sciences to a higher level of integration, understanding, and creativity. True and
absolute reality contains the empirical-sensory, rational-conscious aspects, and aspects
superrational-Supersensory. A system of truth and knowledge is only based on reason, or
reasons, or faith, perceiving a limited part of reality manifold, thus presenting a partial and
distorted view of the subject matter. A system that is inseparable from the truth requires the
synthesis of each of the three aspects, so that most closely approximates the true nature
tripled from reality. Therefore integralism is the most adequate system of truth and
knowledge.
2. Integralism and the Truth of Faith
The basic problem in developing an integral system of loyalty and knowledge
advocated by Sorokin is how to combine the idea of a truth of faith as expressed in the
religious ideas in a way that is compatible with a naturalistic conception of science, which is
limited to the rational and empirical truth. This can be done by focusing on a particular
category of religious ideas that have been around for centuries and has near universal
consensus of the world's great religions. These ideas can be considered as the fundamental
contents of the truths of faith that can be included in the system of truth and knowledge of the
social sciences.
The importance of the Golden Rule for the social sciences as a variable subject and
theoretical research shown by a cross-community. Comparative research shows a variety of
universals in personality, society, language, and culture (Brown 1991). There are strong
indications that the Golden Rule in some form is one of the universal. One indication is
provided by the norm of reciprocity, which express the Golden Rule on a limited basis.

If the Golden Rule is to serve as the main focal point of the theoretical and research
efforts in the social sciences are integral, the abstract and general principles must be broken
down into its constituent parts. There is a fundamental difference between the positive and
negative doctrine of "doing good" and "avoid evil," and the realization of their behavior or
violations. Three schemes of religious ideas that appear to have a bearing on this difference,
and hence the Golden Rule, is the concept of virtue, vice or sin, and the Ten Commandments.
Each of these ideas can be considered as part of the truths of faith from a religious
perspective, or from the perspective of a rational and empirical as relating to key aspects and
universal human behavior.

Tile options associated with the Golden Rule is a fundamental focal point for the
integral synthesis of religious and philosophical ideas with paradigms and theories are more
specific. personally directed the transformation of a more complete realization of the Golden
Rule is the basic premise of the value derived from the truths of faith. Sorokin believes that
society and culture are ultimately made by the aggregate effect of individual choice. In this
context, the choice of altruistic love is a major determinant of both personal and social
reconstruction

In the integral development of the social sciences, the concept of analysis at the
appropriate level of analysis should be formulated for each relevant religious ideas, such as
the virtues, vices, or the Ten Commandments. Likewise, the operational procedures for the
different research techniques such as surveys, experiments, and history, needs to be
understood and validated. As a result of this, the proposition with the concept that comes
from sources that can be developed and tested at various levels of analysis within the basic
framework of reference culture, society, and personality. Virtues, vices, or command can
serve as an independent variable, dependent, or intervention in the exploration of various
questions.

This article has shown many areas where integralism is consistent with the ideas that
already exist in sociology. In case this is a new paradigm so. Sociology and other social
sciences can benefit greatly from the emergence and development of integralism explicit. It
requires a different perspective that unites the ideas in the paradigm that gives new priorities
and direction for the social sciences. Integralism offer solutions to problems considered at the
beginning of the paper: the lack of integration, failure to achieve scientific buildup and the
core body of knowledge; epistemological subjectivism; ideological advocacy. Integralism
unifying theory development and research around common issues provides the knowledge
and understanding necessary to increase the level of love and moral kind. Because of the
extent and complexity of this problem, it requires a multivariate analysis of most of the
fundamental component of culture, society, and personality and their relationship
