SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter covers the summary of the findings of the study, the conclusions

drawn from these findings, and the recommendations made by the researchers based

on the conclusions.

Summary of Findings

The main purpose of the study is to find out the impact of skipping breakfast

among college students at the University of St. La Salle.

Results show that 60% of our respondents skip breakfast. 6 students believe that

it was mainly due to the lack of time. According to 4 students, however, they are unable

to eat breakfast because there is no one to cook for them. Another 4 students answered

that they wake up late; hence they just skip breakfast. 2 students responded that they

were lazy to eat, and according to the last 2 students they simply have no appetite for

breakfast.

50% of the respondents believe that skipping breakfast had a negative impact on

their health; while the other half remains neutral. Among the negative effects were

fatigue, dizziness, stomachache, ulcer and headache. However, on academic matters,

75% of the students who skip breakfast believe that they have no direct relationship.

8.30% of the students agree that skipping breakfast has negative effects on their

academic life, while the 16.70% of the students answered that it had a positive effect.
Conclusions

The following conclusions were drawn based on the findings of the study:

Based on our research, most students do not eat breakfast anymore. And

according to the survey conducted, it can be noted that the main reason why students

skip breakfast is because they lack the time. Students are aware of the health threat

imposed by skipping breakfast, however, they continue to do it for they have not

comprehended the severity of such negative impacts.

Some students also believe that if they skip breakfast, it can help improve their

grades rather than have a negative effect. More than half do not think skipping breakfast

can affect academic performance. It goes to show that they lack the proper knowledge

of the essentiality and importance of the first meal of the day.

Recommendations

Based on the conclusions, the researchers recommend the following:

To the Nutritionists. Since only a few are aware of the benefits of eating

breakfast, they must provide a venue for the students to be properly educated

and to conduct a more extensive research on the negative effects of skipping

breakfast. To the Students. They must be aware of the effects of skipping

breakfast both on their health and their academic performance.

To the Parents. They must acquire a deeper sense of understanding on giving

their children breakfast and how it can improve their health and academic

performance. They should be able to discipline their children to not skip breakfast

and to raise awareness on the importance of breakfast.

To the Future Researchers. They must conduct another study that will provide

more insights and they must improve the study by using a wider scope and a

more intensive investigation on the effects of skipping breakfast among students.
