Dear Counselor
1am writing to share some great news with you about Kids’ Chance of South
Carolina, Kids’ Chance is a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships
to students who have a parent that has been killed or seriously injured as result
of a work-related accident.
Kids’ Chance was incorporated in 1993 and has awarded nearly $1,000,000.00
in scholarships since that time. While the organization will celebrate its 25"
Anniversary next year, we find that there are many throughout South Carolina
‘who are not familiar with the opportunities it has to offer. | am reaching out to
all the guidance offices of every high school in South Carolina in an effort to
change that
Our goal is to help as many children as possible throughout the state. To do
this, awareness is important and we must be able to find those students in need.
hat is where we need YOUR help!
To qualify for @ Kids’ Chance scholarship, the first requirement is that the
students have a parent or legal guardian that has sustained a fatal or serious
‘work-related injury. Secondly, the students must be between the ages of 16-25
and attending a 4-year accredited university/callege or technical school
Because we understand the impact such an injury or death of a parent can have
ona family, we have a very relaxed GPA requirement. All or scholarships are
funded through corporate and private and contributions and our annual
fundraisers so we do hold the recipients accountable to some degree. New
applicants must have a GPA of 2.0 to apply and the must maintain a GPA of 2.5
to renew their scholarship each semester.
Thave enclosed some information about Kids’ Chance of South Carolina and
ask that you share this with your students and colleagues. You may also visit
‘our website at www.kidschancesc.org. All forms related to scholarship
applications can be found on our website. Scholarships are accepted each
spring and fall. The deadline for the fall semester is June 30, 2017 and
applications and all required supporting documentation must be submitted to
‘our office by that deadline
| hope you find this information helpful and again ask that you please help us
spread the word about Kids’ Chance of South Carolina and the opportunities
available to children throughout South Carolina,
Please feel free to call or email me should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
ly te
