PART A:
The students will create their own podcast and publish it onto the classroom blog so all their other peers can hear. The podcast
product will be about the Gold Rush pertaining to the social studies standard below. The students will write at least one
paragraph describing the major effects pertaining to the Gold Rush (they will do this with prior knowledge in the classroom over
this content). I will go over the actually step by step procedures in the class and put the instructions on the blog for the students to
have a reminder of how to set it up individually. They will get on audacity, record their writings, and publish it to the blog. The
students will be allowed the opportunity to respond to others podcast, and listen to all their classmates thoughts on this content.
This will be very engaging and provoke some different learning strategies.

Brief Description of Learning Experience:

The students and teacher will discuss this lesson activity in class before we even start. The student will have prior knowledge of
their content standard and topic before writing their paragraphs. They will have the opportunity to write their writings during
class time if they wanted. The teacher (me) will introduce the steps of producing the podcast in class and provide time for this to
be finished in class as well. The students that do not finish in class can finish at home (instructions on blog) or finish the next
class day. I do not want to make this necessary to do as homework because I know this is be kind of confusing and hard for 4 th
grade students. My goal is to have this activity be different for the students: engaging and fun but then again, still beneficial for
their learning. Overall, this activity will be done in 1-2 class days within a (50-minute period) during writing time.

The students will be assessed throughout class with multiple observations and guidance. I will grade this activity based on the
required information needed: one paragraph, recorded podcast, and a response to at least one peer classmate. The audience will
consist of the entire class and their guardians to hear their great writings! Parents usually love hearing their own childs podcast
and they also like to show others close to them. I will provide feedback to the students pertaining to their grades, and the students
will also provide feedback to at least one peer on their podcast. This lesson activity should turn out very successful and engaging
for the students!

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?
This lesson will meet Loti 4 completely.
Why? The students will be engaged in higher-order thinking skills. Technology is being integrated in a standard based
lesson activity. The student will be seen in a professional role (recording their own writings), and teachers will be the co-
learners (listening to all the students). The student will then produce and share their writings through a podcast and
share with their peers and themselves through this device.

Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are
going to be used in the learning experience?

Using multimedia in this project is crucial because it creates a lot of different benefits for the students learning! Yes, this project
could be used without technology but it would not meet all the loti requirements without technology being used throughout the
activity. The specific items that would be lost would be: 1. Technology 2) social interaction online 3) responding to peers 4)
creating a product technology and 5) the parents would not have personal access to hearing their childs writings.
