Introduction/Activating/Launch Strategies: (10 Minutes)

To introduce the class to pollution I will use props around the room to demonstrate different
types of pollution. I would do this by putting wrappers around the room, empty cans and
bottles, grey cotton ball clouds, a sign that says toxic waste and as its pouring into the sink.
This is to help excite children as they walk in and help them build questions or ideas about
what we are going to be learning. I will also have a pollution video playing to help introduce
key concepts I want students to walk away knowing today. Review what the video was with
students.

Development/Teaching Approaches: (30 Minutes)

Introduce vocabulary words the class will be using today such as litter, pollution, and
environment. Use the idea attached to back for an anchor chart about pollution and tape or
hang in your class room with pictures and key terms.

Next we are going to do a read aloud of the book What is Pollution? By Bruce Larkin. This
book will help clarify vocabulary words and concepts on pollution for students. After a brief
discussion about the book and its content, students will return back to their seats.

Demonstrate and provide directions verbally for students in the next activity. Pass out one
coloring page per student. Crayon bins will be placed at each table for students to share.
Students will color their pollution page and will decide if their picture is land, water, or air
pollution. Once they are finished coloring students will get a piece of tape from the teacher
and place it on our pollution bulletin board in the correct area. If students need help placing
their coloring page in the correct spot provide guided questions such as:
What kind of type of pollution is going on in your picture?
Where do you see the liter or trash? Example: if the students says the water then say yes water
