ChakraisaSanskritwordliterallymeaning"wheel."Thesecenterswerenamedassuchbecauseofthe
circularshapetothespinningenergycenterswhichexistinoursubtleethericbody,thenonmaterialenergetic
counterparttoourphysicalbody.Therearesevenmainchakrasandtheyarelocatedalongthespineextending
outthefrontandbackofthebody.Eachchakrahasanumberofspecificqualitiesthatcorrespondtothe
refinementofenergyfromthebaselevelmaterialselfidentity,locatedatthefirstchakras,uptothehigher
vibrationspiritlevelawarenessofbeingatourcrown.Theseenergeticcentersrepresentourhighestlevelof
integrationsplit,prismlike,intoaspectrumofcolors.Ouropportunityinstudyingthemistolearnhowtomaster
eachchakrasessenceandunitethemallintoaunifiedfieldofbrilliance.Assuch,wereuniteourdisparate
partsintoaradianlightoffullselfawareness.

Thechakrasareformedatthejunctionofthreeconnectedenergyshaftsthatascendthespine,oneoneachside
ofthecentralchannel,theShushumna.ThetwolesserchannelsofenergythePingalaontherightandIdaon
theleftrunparalleltothespinalcord.Chakrasbothtakeupandcollectprana(lifeforceenergy)andtransform
andpassonenergy.Ourmaterialbodiescouldnotexistwithoutthemfortheyserveasgatewaysfortheflowof
energyandlifeintoourphysicalbodies.

Eachchakraisassociatedwithacertainpartofthebodyandacertainorganwhichitprovideswiththe
energyitneedstofunction.Additionally,justaseveryorganinthehumanbodyhasitsequivalentonthemental
andspirituallevel,sotooeverychakracorrespondstoaspecificaspectofhumanbehavioranddevelopment.
Ourcircularspiralsofenergydifferinsizeandactivityfrompersontoperson.Theyvibrateatdifferentlevels
relativetotheawarenessoftheindividualandtheirabilitytointegratethecharacteristicsofeachintotheirlife.
Thelowerchakrasareassociatedwithfundamentalemotionsandneeds,fortheenergyherevibratesatalower
frequencyandisthereforedenserinnature.Thefinerenergiesoftheupperchakrascorrespondstoourhigher
mentalandspiritualaspirationsandfaculties.

Theopennessandflowofenergythroughourchakrasdeterminesourstateofhealthandbalance.
Knowledgeofourmoresubtleenergysystemempowersustomaintainbalanceandharmonyonthephysical,
mentalandspirituallevel.Allmeditationandyogasystemsseektobalanceouttheenergyofthechakrasby
