PLATFORM:
The Union of Students for the Advancement of Democracy (USAD) envisions a
student government that recognizes the structural and political roots of inequalities and
promotes, therefore, structural and political responses. We believe that in order to genuinely
address the needs of the Sanggunians constituents and to effectively respond to national
issues, it is necessary to take a long-term view, both in aim and praxis, in light of these
pressing concerns. Our Party thus runs in this elections prepared to take action with our
platform Forward Together.
In moving forward, we work together towards a Sanggunian that is powered by
students, adopts activism in strategy, and espouses a progressive worldview. The Presidents
role is crucial in this endeavor as the President is mandated by the Constitution to act as the
official representative of the student body.
As President, I shall create the Student Rights and Welfare Department which
shall serve the following functions:
o Train Sanggunian officers on student rights and welfare (STRAW)
o Institutionalize student-centered mental health care and services
o Promote and reinforce available mental health services within the
University
o Conduct mental health awareness talks and workshops to professors
and administrators
In committing to keep the interests of the student body at heart by advancing students
rights and welfare, I shall focus my efforts in ensuring and forwarding student representation
within committees in the LS schools as stipulated in the Magna Carta. This effort has shall
concretized in lobbying for student regency in decision-making bodies (such as the Board of
Trustees) in the University.
In bridging campus politics in the broader national context, I want to be able to
create and organize working groups for sociopolitical involvement. These working groups
will come from each school in the LS. The goal of each working group is to link the
sociopolitical issue into an output that is related to their course/school. In order to do this, the
working group must undergo an immersion. The working group will be open to all. Another
effort I would like to start is to incentivize multisectoral fora and similar activities and forge
partnerships and dialogues with external organizations for possible points of action. In line
with this, I want to coordinate with the current Task Forces, while the creation of other task
forces for issue-based campaigns.
In advancing labor rights and welfare in campus, I want to Open spaces for
dialogue among the Sanggunian and the Ateneo Employees and Workers Union (AEWU),
faculty association, and outsourced employees.

Working for the Sanggunian for two years, as a Block Representative SY 2015
2016 and as the Department of Finance Chairperson under the Office of the President SY
2016 2017, has trained me with performing both grassroot and administrative functions.
In line with our party vision of creating a Sanggunian that recognizes structural and
political roots of inequalities and therefore, promotes structural and political response,
below are my plans should I be elected in office:
A. Advance Student Rights and Welfare
1. Institutionalize student-centered mental health care and services through
conducting needs assessment measures, surveys and studies regarding the causes
of depression in campus, mental health awareness talks and workshops to
professors and administrators, and using these inputs to restructure the mental
health services in the Loyola Schools
2. Dialogue with LS Admin and the Office of Admission and Aid regarding the
provision of scholarships for Double Majoring and Minoring and co-create
solutions and/or alternatives re: 50 hours per additional subject policy
3. Advocate for Fiscal Transparency especially with regards to the yearly 6%
tuition increase and discuss with admin measures to address this issue
4. Create Standard Operating Procedures for preventing and responding to
student concerns such as mental health, sexual harassment, students in financial
need, among others
5. Review the Magna Carta of Undergraduate Student Rights and advocate for
inclusion of provisions for anti-sexual harassment and gender rights, and
financial aid for students in need
6. Create opportunities for needs-based subsidies for student groups and
nonsport varsities
Roxy Trillanes
Roxanne Nicole J. Trillanes
Main Objective: A Sanggunian that personally engages the students in their advocacies
and interests by making student life more meaningful. One that provides spaces for
discourse and support towards nation-building.
o Legislation for more public places within the campus to foster a healthier
academic environment that can cater to more of the students needs (study halls,
rest & recreation areas, etc.)
2. A strengthened and open communication line between the Sanggunian, its students and
the administration
o Push for a more open and accessible relationship between the administration and
the student body
Increase seats in the administration committees such as the Budget and
Curriculum Review Committees; and lobby for more observer seats in order
to provide greater transparency to the student body and better transition
process for the next officers.
Allow Committee on Student Engagement to bridge the students and
offices for possible recruitment and partnerships such as becoming research
assistants and student deputies.
o Create a Committee on Systems that can aid in providing efficient internal
Sanggunian systems, including:
Student-Concern Action Plan
Internal Financial Protocols
Officer Performance Tracker
3. An interactive and innovative Sanggunian
o Provide better avenues for accountability of the Sanggunian through creating more
interactive spaces
Partnership with organizations to provide creative means in releasing
stands, minutes, attendance, budget, etc. in order to fully engage students.
Create a public and creative Systems Manual that contains the Code of
Internal Procedure of the Sanggunian, in partnership with the organizations
in order to open up Sanggunian processes to the student body.
In partnership with the Cabinet of the President, create a more visual
version of the Magna Carta that can aid in the students knowledge of their
rights.
Ferdy Acosta
Ferdinand Benedicto S. Acosta
It is time for the Loyola Schools to pull together, work together and ultimately rise
together. To do this, we plan to achieve the following:
a. Increase the speed of program and policy development process and the quality of our
output. Programs and policies are geared towards helping the student body maximize
their competencies and skills towards community development and nation building.
In order to facilitate the acceleration of program and policy development process and
the quality of these programs and policies:
o Course representatives will undergo a comprehensive training and
development to equip them with the competencies needed to produce quality
programs and policies for the student body.
o We must generate and execute programs and policies that match the needs of
then students. We will use the resources of the Sanggunian to conduct
informal and formal consultations, small group discussions, and commission
research to better understand the constituency.
o We shall open the Sanggunian processes to the student body. The student
body is no longer just beneficiaries of our services but partners for
development. We will be working with the constituency to develop programs
and policies that are beneficial for them and the student body at large.
b. Fight to tear down obstacles that hold Ateneans back and build ladders of
opportunities for all Ateneans. In order for the School of Humanities Sanggunian to assist
the students in pursuing their passions, the following will be pursued:
A comprehensive review of the current services being offered by the Sanggunian and
the service delivery operation. Necessary reform in the operations and the expansion
of services will be initiated if the review reveals it is needed.
Necessary changes in the applications for the SSS will be made in order to make it
easier for students to apply and benefit from the program. The coverage of the SSS
will also be expanded to incentivize more theses, researches and projects.
Expand Emerging and Recognized Organizational Assistance. We will continue
providing assistance to further empower these organizations. We will also open
communication pathways in order for us to know what support they might need from
the institution. We will use our representative powers to lobby their concerns as
organizations to the ADMU administration
We will push for a Student Rights and Welfare Committee tasked to advance and
formulate policy for the protection of Students Rights and Welfare in the University.
c. Innovation. We shall tap into the ingenuity of the students in order to facilitate innovation.
The humanities is not limited to just the arts and literature, it is present in science and
technology, entrepreneurship and the social sciences. Given this, we plan to do the following:
SOH Think Tank. We will establish a Think Tank tasked to catalyze the creation and
implementation of innovative approaches for solving problems. The goal is to deliver
innovative, and practical solutions to the problems we face through the combined
skills of the humanities, science and engineering, social sciences and management.
Connect. The School of Humanities is brimming with ideas geared towards
community development. We will connect SOH students who are pursuing innovative
researches, ideas and ventures to incubators and accelerators to help them get their
ventures off the ground. We will offer these students a workspace, network of
mentors, access to investors and other services.
Reward Innovation. Creators and innovators who decide to launch their venture that
operate in vulnerable communities and provide measurable social impact and benefit
shall be rewarded.
B. Galvanize Communities
We need to connect like-minded individuals, people with similar passion points. The School
of Humanities Sanggunian will find where they are and galvanize these people, cultivate
these communities and empower them with resources.
C. Integration
The School of Humanities Sanggunian will be integrating the SOH organizations and home
departments to the school assembly, thus turning these three sectors into one triumvirate.

I enjoy reading self-help and fiction books, listening to a

the concepts of good business and social development
PLATFORM:
Representation matters. The Ateneo School of Management is currently under-
represented and under-utilized because of the lack of a School Representative. As a result, the
students of SOM are losing on possible opportunities for personal growth and development.
The students also have a reduced capacity to lobby school specific concerns to offices within
the university. This coming year, lets solve that.
Governance
The SOM Sanggunian should invest in the Atenean. The Atenean community is rich
with ideas and advocacies, and it needs to be realized and enabled. I envision a new SOM
Sanggunian as the Establishment of a New Market Ecosystem, wherein the students that
come from different contexts and fields of management can co-exist and puts a premium on
interdisciplinary engagement.
1. As a government, the Sanggunians task is not to impose its absolute will upon the
student body and demand support; rather it should seek to realize and engage ideas
from the constituents and make sure that these ideas materialize. This would involve a
bottom-up approach to idea generation where the student body would drive the
Sanggunian.
2. The creation of a SOM Shark Tank to stimulate idea generation within the student
body and organize these into tangible projects. Instead of an exclusive think tank that
limits brainstorming to a certain group of people, ideas should come from the student
body and it would be the job of this body to ensure that ideas flow within the
community and that these ideas are attended to.
3. The expansion of the current Sanggunian Subsidy System to fund personal
advocacies that seek to engage in nation-building through projects, student-led
initiatives, passion projects, and social enterprise.
4. The Sanggunian will continue to ensure transparency regarding all updates,
decisions, and agendas undertaken by the student government. Similarly, the student
government will actively seek out concerns to get a feel on the pulse of the students.
5. The Sanggunian will also cultivate our homegrown business practices such as
JSEC stalls, Gonzaga stores and other aspiring startups by providing SSS subsidies,
ensuring ease of business within the Loyola Schools, and grants and subsidies
The SOM Sanggunian should build bridges to where SOM wants to be.
Opportunities for personal development and societal development are abundant; the Atenean
should not be caged within the four walls of the campus.

PLATFORM:
1. Student Support. The School of Science and Engineering shall invest upon the ideas of
each student by providing more avenues to further explore, promote, and apply the different
disciplines through interdisciplinarity and innovation.
a. Promotion of Research.
i. Think Tank. A long term goal of SOSE as a whole that aims to promote
policy change in science and technology within and beyond the Ateneo. This
entails assessing the research landscape of each discipline through
consultation with the students, and consultation with SOSE admin.
ii. Thesis Collaboration within the Departments. Promote interdisciplinary
thinking by lobbying for the theses of interested SOSE students to possibly be
co-advised with someone outside of their disciplines department.
iii. Stronger Involvement in Interlinks. Increase involvement of the
departments, and provide a more open avenue for ALL students under SOSE
to showcase also their research projects and studies.
b. Increase of Grants for Advocacies under SOSE. Expand the Sanggunian Subsidy
System to cover initiatives that are not necessarily thesis researches.
c. Continued Support for Emerging Organizations. Continue to aid emerging
organizations in their other concerns beyond logistical and administrative support.
2. Representative Formation. The School of Science and Engineering shall pride itself upon
representatives that are able to carry out their duties as Sanggunian officers most effectively
to their constituents.
a. SOSE School Assembly Code of Internal Procedures. Together with the SOSE
Sanggunian course representatives, create a working document that we shall refer to
that will define our dynamics within SOSE Sanggunian and with the organizations
and the administration.
b. Customized Training Programs. Formulate a training program catered
specifically towards SOSE course representatives to arm them with foundational
knowledge of the Sanggunian and how it works to make sure they are ready to carry
out their plans and platforms, and effectively respond to the needs of the SOSE
students.
3. Externalization. The School of Science and Engineering shall work towards lobbying for
policy change beyond the Ateneo. Together, we shall work towards the development of the
nation and of the future of scientists in the Philippines.
a. Information Campaign of the Different Programs, Bills, and Laws that directly
impact the sciences.
b. Creation of Working Groups in collaboration with the different organizations in
COA-STC that will review and recommend policy change and improvements for bills
and laws in the government, specifically the Magna Carta for Scientists, Bill for Start-
ups, etc.

Activities: III AB Philosophy Course Representative (2016-2017)
First, I will continue the curriculum review for the Philosophy program especially with
regards to the major subjects. Most of the major subjects taken by the Philosophy majors are
Western while Oriental philosophy is neglected. There are only two courses offered about
Eastern Philosophy: Chinese and Indian Philosophy which comprises just 6 units of our
curriculum. Moreover, there are also no electives and courses offered which offers a
comprehensive study of the works of Fr. Roque Ferriols who is the pioneer in teaching
philosophy in Filipino. I want to ensure feedback mechanisms are in place so the curriculum
is better suited for philo majors' interests and contexts.
Secondly, I also want to advance labor rights and welfare on campus. I also seek to
open spaces for dialogue among the Sanggunian and the Ateneo Employees and Workers
Union (AEWU), faculty association, and outsourced employees.
Lastly, I also seek to advance student rights and welfare. I seek to Advocate the
inclusion of provisions for anti-sexual harassment and gender rights, and financial aid for

as stipulated in the Magna Carta.

For example, the Mental Health Awareness Week, a project of the Sanggunian that
only started last year, was able to earn its well-deserved attention and participation from the
student body. This year, MHAW will be taking a step forward and continuing with this
positive progression each year. Initially, we were able to accept a substantial amount of
students who were willing to offer their service to the community. With this, we are
optimistic that we will also be able to earn a huge amount of participation from the student
body in the week-long event itself. By showing them that their involvement not only helps
themselves but also makes a difference to and takes effect on the inside and outside
community of the Ateneo, we were able to earn much more care and recognition coming
from the student body. In addition to this, we will also be able to uphold one of the
characteristics of Ateneans -- men and women for others. To be able to reach out to the
student body more, we can create more avenues for them to be more involved and included in
the community. By helping them reach out to the community they belong in more, we are
helping them discover their own capabilities and letting them use these as tools to become a
better member of the student body and the whole community. The goal for me is to reach out
to them to help them reach out to other people -- to help them help others. That, for me, is
one of the ways that the Sanggunian can be more present in the lives of Ateneans.
A huge problem that BSM AMF majors face is the restriction that comes along with
the stereotype of being a math major. Because AMF is focused on specializing in
mathematics and finance, this may be restricting most of us into the common career pathways
and from avenues wherein we can use and develop our learnings more. We need more
exposure to other applications of our program, aside from finance, government, actuary, etc.
In addition to this, the Ateneo Mathematics Society is constantly working on breaking the
walls that this branding that outsiders have placed upon the organization.
This branding seemingly boxes their capabilities and sizes them down to an
academiconly organization. Inevitably, this wall seems to restrict the scope of our events. For
me, the Sanggunian may be able to work hand-in-hand with AMS and be able to build more
projects and create more events wherein not only AMS members are invited but also the
whole LS community. The Sanggunian will be able to reach to more students, and thus will
be of great help to developing a wider scope and more diverse opportunities for the AMF
majors.
As the course representative of a course consisting of a small number of students, my
role can be bettered by conducting surveys which will be much easier to do considering the
amount of respondents. These surveys can help us know more about their needs and the
needs of others. Even though the process of stratification for this survey does not let us
achieve a more appropriate and accurate representation of the opinions of the whole student
body, the goal here is to be able to let them voice out their different perspectives and angles
towards certain issues. Conducting surveys will be helpful to solidify their views that will
greatly contribute to the betterment of this community. Through this, the Sanggunian can
build more avenues and projects leaning towards solving these problems.

PLATFORM:
In my opinion, the Sanggunian has been doing a good job of taking care of the
students as well as giving them a voice. I think though that I would like to focus more on
student involvement and interaction with the student body. I feel that people should know
that they have a voice in this, and that their wish to be heard shall not go unrecognised. The
platform I am presenting is one with more student involvement and one where each student
feels like they have a hand and say in the student body.
As I am running for course representative for a relatively small or unknown course
with few student members, I feel like this platform should focus on showing them that they
are still an integral member of the student body considering that given the situation, these
people may go unnoticed at times. I feel like with the small number of course members, it
gives a good perspective into their opinions. This then allows them to have an equal say as
other more prominent courses, giving them the confidence and the knowledge that what they
are part of the big picture. I see this as an opportunity to give more opportunities and for them
to feel that they have an impact.

In order to fix these issues I believe that advisement should be stricter and be more
promoted. A lot of students dont go through advisement which causes the number of slots
being opened up to be less than the number of students who need that specific course. This
may be due to two things, one being that they do not through advisement simply because they
are lazy and it isnt strictly enforced or the other being that they might not even know about
the exact details of their advisement for their home department which is why I believe that
promoting advisement and making it more strict will help in these issues. On the other hand
the issue of AISIS crashing is something I do not know the exact solution to but I am looking
to forward this issue.
Besides the problems surrounding AISIS and our online enlistment system I would
also like to push for the review of any potential problems that my constituents would have
regarding the curriculum of our course. Since my course, BS Digital Game Design and
Development, is new and was only opened to freshmen this year I believe that my
constituents might have specific concerns regarding our course and when they do I want for
their concerns to be addressed.

PLATFORM:
1. Academic Support. Bachelor of Arts in Life Sciences is admittedly a challenging course
in terms of the academic difficulty level and workload, placing as one of the honors courses
in the Ateneo. As representatives of the course to the Sanggunian, more avenues should be
provided in order to effectively improve the quality of the course through student and
department feedback and review.
a. Course Evaluation. In order to properly address academic concerns related to
workload and majors, regular feedback and assessment of the course and its subjects
must be practiced. Additionally, the evaluation would also include teacher and syllabi
assessment in order to provide an overview on the effectiveness of the subject
requirements and the class environment. This entails the practice of open
communication with the teachers and transparency on the subject performance based
from constructive feedback from the students.
2. Student Concerns. It is a must to invest on addressing different student concerns within
the batch. In order to bring up these concerns, proper communication must be executed
between the parties in order to give light and context to current situations.
a. Student Concerns Form and Consultation. Utilization of current technology in
collection and archiving of student concerns that may be directly addressed or relayed
to concerned parties or individuals. An online form would be made available for
Biology-specific and Life Sciences-specific concerns and consultations.
3. Internalization and Externalization. Proper communication and relationship must be
established within and outside the course in order to utilize the assets of each.
a. Coordination with the Biology Department, Ateneo Biological Organization -
eXplore. eXperience. eXcel., and School of Science and Engineering Sanggunian.
A course representative would act as a link for students with the department, home
organization, and Sanggunian. This link would be utilized in order to externalize the
efforts and improve the relationship of all parties.
b. Professional Development Series. Junior year is a crucial year in terms of
choosing the course specialization and setting out the career path to be taken after
senior year. In order to help in the discernment process and enrich the students of the
available opportunities the course may offer, several professional development series
may be executed such as, but not limited to, the following:
i. Specialization Information Primer and Prospectus Dissemination
ii. Preparation and Assistance in Resume Building and Applications for
Masterals, Medical Admission Tests, etc.
iii. Database on the Fields, Jobs or Careers of Biology and Life Sciences

When I first applied for this newly updated position, I kept in mind that the things that
plan to do when elected are not objectives that can be done in one term, and as I look back,
these are things that I cannot fulfill even when my stay in the Loyola Schools is over. So, as I
enter my supposed and aspired for last term as a course representative, I will continue what I
have not finished and most likely strive for more, that of which I havent done in my previous
term.
The change that I wish to start is not one that has to end with my term, but something
that all those who follow and come after me to uphold and maybe someday finish when all
has been done. For my term, I wish to establish a connection between the administrators and
the students under the Department of Biology, with the goal of one day influencing the upper
echelon to provide the students with more advanced facilities and equipment. Not only will
this benefit the students in their studies, but will also entail better research and theses that the
school can publicize.
Lastly, although it sounds corny and cheesy, I found a family in my course, and all I
want to do for them is to give them the best as well as to bring them closer. To do so, it can
be as simple as participating in seasonal festivities, to something like inter-block
competitions or hangouts. All of these, I promise to start and uphold, if elected for the
position that I long to hold.

If I am to be elected, I will strive hard to make sure that my course, MIS, will continue
to have a voice in the Sanggunian in matters that affect us heavily and beyond. I will make
sure to have an open ear for whatever concerns my course mates have on any matter,
whether it concerns the student body as a whole or the entire nation. I believe that MIS has
a crucial role to play in nation building, especially in helping out in streamlining many
processes with the effective use of technology. As such, as MIS Course Representative, I
will lobby for an assessment or re-assessment of all processes that deal with the concerns
of the students, both in the school administration and in the Sanggunian, as there are some
processes that overlap between the two.
I cannot deny that the school administration is doing the best it can to repair, maintain,
and add new facilities for all of us to use in campus. However, I would like to lobby for the
following facilities to be added:
Vending machines in Faura Hall. If completed, will provide cheap and easy to access
food to students in Faura, from the Social Sciences building, as well as from the Library.
Complete LSWLAN1 Coverage in every part of the Loyola Schools. Certain areas of the
Loyola Schools are not reached by a router propagating the LSWLAN1 network, including,
but not limited to, the SEC and CTC-SOM building complex, and Berchmans Hall.
Despite the risk of having students abuse the internet access while in their classes, I believe
that other forms of learning provided by the internet are effective and will in itself attract
the students attention.
A paved walkway on the side of the JGSOM building. Even if only a small minority of
students use this route, it must still be considered as its current state seems unsafe. A study
may then be conducted if the route should be closed off more permanently or if a proper
walkway be made so that students taking the route may do so safely.

PLATFORM:
One of my advocacies is transparency.
The platform under this advocacy is the transparency of the breakdown of percentage
of a students tuition fee. Many of people have been asking about the tuition fee and its
specific breakdown of percentage. What percent of our tuition actually goes to the teachers,
what percent goes to the school and what percent goes to the utilities and so on. I would do
this by writing a request to know or see the percentage breakdown so that I can inform them
so that they will no longer wonder where their tuition fee is going. After seeing the
breakdown of percentage of the tuition fee, I would also propose some changes because the
tuition in Ateneo is really expensive as compared to other schools and I believe that everyone
should have a chance to a great education This platform will be more feasible if other course
representatives join together. It would make more of an impact.
Another one of my advocacies is the awareness and support to the LGBTQA
community.
I know that the Ateneo is very open to the LGBTQA community and that people in
Ateneo respect them and treat them equally but there are still some others who dont feel the
same way or simply dont care enough around them. I know people who are part of the
LGBTQA and they said that they do feel welcome in Ateneo but they still feel that they are
not really that accepted yet, and I want them to feel that they can really be who they are in
Ateneo. I also want them to have a safe place where they can talk about the problems they
have faced or are still facing. Because of this I would want to propose an event similar to that
of the pride week that was done in Ateneo last time, but what makes my platform different is
that I want make an event where there will be speakers and they will talk about What is
LGBTQA and everything we need to know about it. There would also be different activities
in this event. Like maybe a talent show. The main goal of this platform is just to make more
people aware and more people care about the LGBTQA community in Ateneo.
Another one of my platforms will be about tackling the problems of excused cuts still
being counted as cuts. Many students have faced the problem of being sick or injured and
having to get a medical certificate but the medical certificate is not honored and thus leading
it to still being a cut.
Lastly, I would like to lobby for an improvement of the INAF program and the
Guidance Council office for I believe that these are programs and services that are essential
to an Atenean.

The series of political events that took place in and out of our nation over the past year was
the final straw of being a mere witness to oppression. Today, we are all called to stand up and
join the push against the inequalities and hindrances to liberty that exist within and beyond
this institution. To answer the call, I now stand with USAD in its push for a Sanggunian that
works for all Ateneans. I now stand on behalf of my coursemates to push for the following
issues to be recognized and resolved as a candidate for Course Representative:
1. Advance student rights and welfare
A. Institutionalize student-centered mental health care and services by working
with the Office of Guidance and Counseling, administrators, faculty, and
students among others to promote and reinforce available mental health
services within the University.
2. Bridge campus politics with the broader national context
A. Create spaces for political engagement by establishing the Committee on
Socio-Political Engagement as the space for Political and Policy deliberations.
B. Create Task Forces for issue-based campaigns with partnerships and
coordination with external organizations.
3. Advance labor rights and welfare on campus
A. Lobby for the recognition of outsourced employees as regular employees of
the University and for University workers due compensation.
B. Open spaces for dialogue among the Sanggunian and the Ateneo Employees
and Workers Union (AEWU), faculty association, and outsourced employees.
C. Organize fora and workshops on labor rights and welfare.
4. Democratize student governance
A. Implement sectoral representation by organizing and empowering sectors in
the university through regular hearings and public consultations with sectoral
groups, as well as provide support for sectors and underrepresented student
groups seeking formal recognition.
B. Promote full transparency and student involvement with Sanggunian
processes.

As a candidate for 3 AB Communication Course Representative, I want to focus on
working on what it is my constituents want me to do for them. Specifically, I want to focus
on the track system and enlistment problems of my constituents, and taking steps towards
long-term initiatives for mental health. First, I plan to propose that the Communication
Department (COM Dept.) should make advisement mandatory for students as a way for
them to gauge how many students are taking each track and to know how many classes
they are supposed to open for students given that Interdisciplinary Studies (IS) majors also
take Communication (COM) classes because of the COM track they offer. This is a step
towards fixing the track system that the COM Dept. has been implementing. The track
system has been seen as insignificant by the COM majors due to the fact that they are not
guaranteed slots for classes under their chosen track. Second, I want to propose tagging
classes on AISIS specifically for 2nd year COM majors only, or 3rd year COM majors
only, etc. Tagging classes will, in a way, guarantee a slot for students who need to take the
classes. Most COM majors have difficulty enlisting in their majors because other students
from other courses use them as free electives or COM majors in higher year levels get the
classes first before those who need to take it. Consulting with the COM Dept., along with
the IS Dept., to know why their current system works the way that it does, what are the
ways that it could be fixed, and again, proposing the system of mandatory advisement and
tagged classes to help in resolving the issue would be my first step towards achieving this
plan.
Second, besides continuing Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW), long-term and
year-long initiatives will be done to bring the main vision of MHAW further and to
promote an environment of support and safety in Ateneo with the help of the Sanggunian
Central Assembly. Taking steps towards encouraging students to seek help regarding
mental concerns whether it be from the Sanggunian or other offices is one thing I propose
needs to be worked on. Lobbying for a mental health policy, the initiative started by the
current SOSS Sanggunian in partnership with Ateneo Psyche, will be continued until it is
fulfilled. The plans I propose to be put under the policy includes the following: (1)
ensuring that students always have access to mental health services, (2) improving the
Office of Student Services (OSS) protocol for suicide prevention, (3) addressing the
feedback regarding the services or lack thereof of the Loyola Schools Office of Guidance
and Counselling (LSOGC), (4) expanding the coverage of services that the Loyola Schools
Health Services (LSHS) caters to and including mental health services to put mental health
at par with physical health thus, also addressing the stigma, and (5) exploring the options
for a system when it comes to addressing students at risk, working with both the Ateneo
Bulatao Center for Psychological Services (Bulatao) and LSOGC.
