Students will complete a rain stick art project and participate in performing Brazilian music with their art.

Why have you chosen this approach for assessment?


The standards for this lesson are based on participation which is successfully assessed by
observation.

Anticipatory set/Introduction:

1 Gain Attention: Make the rain stick sound in order to gain attention.
2 Review Previous Learning: What is one thing we learned about Brail though our web quest
yesterday? What language is spoken in Brazil?
3 Motivation: Today we will be doing an art project!
4 Statement of Student Objective: You will make your own rain stick and play it to music.

Strategies/Methods: (describe steps in instruction)


1. Students will receive their paper towel tube
2. Students will be given a Dixie cup with small thumb tacks and push them into their tubes
3. Students will receive a large piece of tin foil and wrap their entire tube in it.
4. Students will use mod podge to decorate their tub with colored tissue paper.

Why have you chosen these strategies/methods?


I have chosen these methods in order to infuse art standards into the general education classroom.
This also helps with listening and direction following skills that need to be developed.

Closure/Conclusion:
Students will use their rain sticks to make music along with a video.

watered down Glue or Mod Podge
colored tissue paper
tacks
filler: rice, corn kernels, small buttons, pony beads etc
Dixie cups
Music video: Cool Brazil youtube
