Creating Educational Game for the Classroom Teacher (2 hours)

Created for what? It provides students with a fun way to practice their addition facts up to
20.
Service to whom: I worked with Dawnielle Gibson and we donated this game to our host
teacher Mrs. Ruggiero. The students can use this educational game during math learning
centers. I learned that it is important to incorporate hands on, fun activities for students to
participate in to provide a fun way for students to learn or practice concepts they learn in
class.

Working with the School Community for an Evening Event: Open House (3 hours)

Created for what? It provides an opportunity to interact with parents.
Service to whom: I worked together with my teacher and Dawnielle Gibson to create an
inviting, positive environment for the students and their parents as they came into the
room. I was able to experience communication with many parents and learned
appropriate language that should be used when talking to the parents by watching my
host teacher and communicating with them myself.

Volunteering for After School/Community Program: Beddie-Bye (2 hours)

Created for what? To provide an evening designated to listening to stories being read and
increase parental involvement.
Service to whom: I read two stories with Olivia Herter, Connor ODell and Richard
Effinger during this event. I learned that it is important to have community events like
this. This event provided additional time out of the classroom where students could listen
to a story and answer questions throughout the story to keep students engaged.
Filming Halloween Poems (1 hour)

Created for what? This was created for my host teacher and students to watch and see
what they can work on to improve their reading.
Service to whom: I worked with Dawnielle Gibson and my host teacher Mrs. Ruggiero
when filming the Halloween poems that the students read. My host teacher supported me
in the development of these recordings. I learned that it is important to video yourself and
self reflect as a teacher. I also learned that it is important to encourage your students to do
the same.

Classroom Science Day Activity (2.5 hours)

Created for what? To engage the students in a fun and exciting science lesson.
Service to whom: I worked with Dawnielle Gibson and Mikayla Shade on this activity.
We co-taught the lesson together. Dr. Widdall and Dr. Stratton supported us with the
development. I learned that it is important to make this activity engaging and hands-on. I
also was able to self-reflect and learn effective ways to teach a science lesson to students.

Volunteering for After School/Community Program: Math Breakfast (2 hours)

Created for what? To increase parental involvement and communication with parents
about what the students are learning in both ELA and math.
Service to whom: I worked with Brooke Gilkey when we presented our math game ideas
to parents. Professor Hartung and Dr. Widdall supported us in this development. I learned
a lot regarding communication with parents. It was a good experience to communicate
with many different parents who had children in all age ranges. I learned how to adjust
my language when speaking to parents and what language should and should not be used.

Creating a Communication Flyer for a School Program (2 hours)

Created for what? To share with parents and provide them with activities they can do at
home with their child to practice math concepts. We included the Common Core
standards on the flyers so parents could see how our activities incorporate a standard that
is age-appropriate for their child.
Service to whom: I worked with Danielle Frohnhoefer, Brooke Gilkey and Tara
Hennessy on the flyer in Dr. Widdalls class. We made two flyers, one for Kindergarten
and first grade and one for second and third grade. These flyers were handed out to
parents at Math Night. I learned that it is important to increase parent involvement in
schools and provide parents with easy, fun ways for them to help their child work on
math concepts at home.

Service to whom: I worked with Brooke Gilkey, Danielle Frohnhoefer and Tara
Hennessy on this evening event. Professor Hartung and Dr. Widdall supported us in this
development. I learned how to interact with both students and parents during this event. It
helped me learn the language I should be using and how I should adjust my language
when talking to parents and students.

Creating an Audio Book for Educational Use in the Classroom (2 hours)

Created for what? It provides an alternative way for students to read a book.
Service to whom: I worked with Olivia Herter to complete this audio book. I donated it to
my host teacher Mrs. Ruggiero to use in the classroom with her students when they are
reading. I learned that there are alternative ways for students to read and the benefits
audio books can provide to students who struggle reading.

Creating a Movie for my Practicum Classroom (2 hours)

Created for what? This video was created as an end of the semester gift to my host
classroom that I have spent the last couple months in.
Service to whom: I worked with Dawnielle Gibson on this assignment. Dr. Widdall
supported me with the development of it. I learned how to better and more effectively use
the iMovie application. It was a sweet way to end the semester and tie together my time
spent in my host classroom.
