On the Stigmatization of One Country, Two Systems in Taiwan

Zhuang Yinxi

Abstract: Taiwan has been reluctant to accept One Country, Two Systems since it was put forward, which
has been severely stigmatized in Taiwan. More than that, the opinion that One Country, Two Systems has
failed in appearing in Hong Kong after Occupy Central. The main cause of this phenomenon is that the most
people in Taiwan dont want to see the reunification between the Two Sides of the Taiwan Straits. Another
important cause is the political elits use of the negative mentality of Taiwanses people for defending Taiwan
subjectivity. The stigmatization of One Country, Two Systems in turn increases the resistance of it by
Taiwanses people. However, One Country, Two Systems has not failed in Hong Kong and the mainland
China government has never claimed that it has given up One Country, Two Systems. One Country, Two
Systems was and is still the best option of reunification pattern.
Key Words: Cross-Strait Relations; One Country, Two Systems; the Reunification between the Two Sides of
the Taiwan Straits
