Subject: Math Grade Level: 3rd Time Estimate: 1 hr.

Unit: Review Math Facts Topic: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Davison

Goal(s): TLW understand how to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
problems.

Objective(s): TLW create math problems to represent special numbers in their life.
TLW solve math problems to figure out important numbers in their classmates lives.

TEKS: 3.4A--Students are expected to solve with fluency one-step and two-step
problems involving addition and subtraction within 1,000 using strategies based on place
value, properties of operations, and the relationship between addition and subtraction.

3.4K-- Students are expected to solve one-step and two-step problems involving
multiplication and division within 100 using strategies based on objects; pictorial models,
including arrays, area models, and equal groups; properties of operations; or recall of
facts.

Materials/Resources/Technology needs: Poster paper, sheet with math facts and solution,
manipulatives,

Instructional Procedures
Focusing Event:
The teacher will have made an about me poster and she will hang it in front of the
classroom and discuss that they will be making one of these about themselves.

Teaching/ Learning Procedures:

1. The class will practice some of their facts by solving the problems on the teachers
poster
2. The teacher will discuss the guidelines that the students are expected to meet on
their About Me poster
3. Each student will then get a poster and they will the rest of the class to make a
poster about themselves
Formative Check (ongoing or specific):
As the students are working on their poster the teacher will walk around and
check to make sure that the students are creating correct math problems.

Reteach (alternative used as needed):

The teacher can see if the students are struggling with a certain computation
(addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division) and if they are they can do a
lesson that targets that specific computation.

Closure:
The students will get to solve other classmates posters and find out information
about their classmates. After students have gotten to solve some classmates
posters the class will discuss what they learned from doing this project.

Assessment/Summative Evaluation:
The student will create a poster of numbers in their life such as age, number of
pets, number of siblings, their shoe size, number of letters in their name, etc. They
will have to have at least 8 different math problems (2 addition 2 subtraction 2
multiplication and 2 division) to represent those special numbers. Students will
get a poster, markers, and sticky notes to make their about me poster. After
students are done with their posters they will be posted around the room for other
students to solve.

Modifications/Notes:
GT: These students will have to include more than just a basic math fact. They must have
a 2 step problem to solve the number under the sticky note. For example to represent the
number 9 they might have on the sticky note 3x2+3.

Special Ed: These students will be given a list of math facts with their answer for them to
choose one to represent the number they need.

ESL: These students will be provided with manipulatives to help them make sure they
write the correct math problem to represent the number they want. They can also use the
manipulatives to solve other classmates posters.
