The Great Deportation of the Acadians has long since been considered a black mark on
Canadian History. The questions each historian needs to ask is What are both
perspectives?. In the chart below, collect information about why the British felt that the
Acadians were traitors, and why the Acadians refused to take the oath of allegiance. Use
historical websites, your textbook, notes, and non-fiction books from your teacher to
gather your information.

A Journal from Acadia, Group 2

The Acadian deportation began in 1755 when over 6000 Acadian residents were forced
from their land and set out to sea because they would not take an Oath of Allegiance to
the British! To reflect on what this would have been like, your task will be to writing three
journal entries like you are an Acadian teenager in 1755. Pretend you are a person living
in Acadia in 1755. Write three separate journal entries about the events, your thoughts,
and your feelings during this event in Canadian history. To help you, use class notes, your
textbook and other research to help you.The three entries must be written in the
following order:

1) Before the deportation

2) During the deportation
3) After the deportation

Once your journal entry is complete, have your friend check it over for editing.
Once your friend has checked it over, have Ms. Donahue-Reid read it over.
Fill out the self-assessment at the bottom.
