Topic: Over three hours late

Skills: listening,reading, speaking, writing

Language focus:Past simple of regular and irregular verbs and past time
adverbials.

Lesson aims: by the end of the lesson students will be able to:

-to read and understand a new text and its new vocabulary
-to recognize and to identify both forms of verbs in past tense

-to use the past tense of verbs and solve exercises related to this tense

-to use past tense in oral practice


Assumptions:I assume that my students have already learnt past tense
of verbs in prevoius grades.

Aids: textbook,workbook,flash-cards,handouts.

Methods:reading, writing, speaking,grammar exercises.

Interactions:whole class,T-Ss,Ss-T.

Anticipated problems:Students might find difficult to explain and to


speak about past tense in English and they may use their mother tongue.

Activity 1: warm-up. The student on duty tells the absents and T.


Writes them in the register. Tehen T. Checks homework together with
students and they coorect mistakes if necessary.T.does a warm-up
activity.T.sticks on the blackboard a Chinese proverb.

T.suggests a very short and simple warm-up activity called Chalkboard


chain.T.writes a word on the top of the Bb. The next student writes another
word that begins with the last letter of the previous word.

e.g. dog, good, day, yellow, when, never, etc

Aim: to create the suitable atmosphere for the lesson.

Timing: 5 min.
Activity 2.Introduction of the new topic
Aim:to make students feel the atmosphere of the lesson.

Timing. 2min

T.asks Students about the characters who appeared till then inthe
lessons.Students tell about Jake the surfer and Nicola who came to
Newquay to work in her aunts hotel.Students mention that last time they
have learnt about summer jobs.T.announces that todays lesson will be also
based on the same idea but to find it out they have to read the letter.

Activity 3.Practice of the lesson.


Aim:to practice reading and learn the new vocabulary.

Timing:35min

T.invites students to listen to Nicolas letter after having identified the writer
of the letter and

understanding of the words T.uses some flashcards with the
explanation of the meaningof the words she

sticks them on the Bb. and students have to find the right meaning of the
words.

e.g. nightmare- a very bad and unpleasant dream

Students put down the meaning of the new words in their cpoy-books.

For a better comprehension students are required to answer questions in


exercise 4 page.
