1. Provide objectives: (What are students going to learn?)
Today we are going to talk about and give each other compliments.
Who can tell me what a compliment is?
o A compliment is something said about another person, either about something
you liked that they did or how they acted. They make others feel good.
o What makes up a good compliment?
2. Demonstrate knowledge or skill: (Input/Modeling by the teacher)
Because we are a team here in this class, we care about each other, and we need to make
sure we take care of each other and make each other feel good. Giving compliments is a
way to care for others and make them feel good.
3. Provide guided practice: (Guided practice with the teacher)
So, we are sitting in a circle today because we have a special activity. I have this string
and we are going to create a web of compliments. Now, an example of a compliment
could be
o ____ your hair looks really pretty today.
o I admire how responsible you were for cleaning up your desk yesterday.
Now, a non-example would be:
o I like you
o You are cool
Lets look at this chart to help us determine a good compliment.
o Compliments can focus on what we like or admire about a person on both inside
and outside
I will start and I will give someone a compliment, then I will hold on to my piece of the
string and nicely toss the roll to that person. We will continue this and it will create a
web.
o Should we throw the roll at someone as hard as we can?
o Are we going to freak out if the streamer rips?
o We are saying nice compliments about one another, if we are acting crazy or
saying mean things, you will just need to go back to your seat.
4. Check for understanding and provide student feedback: (How will you know students
understand the skill or concept? How will they know they get it?)?
Informally assess student understanding during lesson through group activity. If they are
able to provide nice compliments towards one another.
5: Provide extended practice and transfer: (Independent practice of the skill)
We will create a compliment web by saying compliments about each other.
6. Assessment / Closure: (How do you evaluate student progress or provide closure to this
lesson?) Time:
Informally assess student participation during class meeting
o Ensure students are talking/listening to peers
