Promoting our Product and Audience Feedback
Promoting our Products

Todays contemporary
society allows us to use social
media platforms to engage
with an audience in order to
promote productions. It is a
conventional way for
blockbusters as well as
independent lms to gain an
audience through the
widespread of trending
topics that can instantly
appear in everyday life for
the majority of people.

Facebook
We used this platform to engage with our
audience enabling us to gain feedback
on our marketing package. We used our
accounts on Facebook, YouTube and
Twitter major sites used by our target
audience to gain an audience. It was
through this platform that we were able
to retrieve data for weakness and
strengths of our production package.

The general feedback we received from
our audience was positive as it showed us
that they thought our products were
eective. This can be shown through the
25 likes and 2 loves on my Facebook
post, presenting the encouragement from
friends of a similar age to our
demographic. However, by publishing it
on this platform it can be argued that we
have received biased reviews.

Twitter
I also used the platform of Twitter to
also publish our products.
Having 1,426 followers at the time,
the majority of those I had never met,
meant that their responses were
more likely to be reliable when asking
them for feedback.

As a result we were able to gain a
range of feedback from seemingly
reliable and potentially biased
participants. Even through this we
have received positive feedback,
presenting our production package
to eectively engage the correct
demographic.

Editing

Due to our trailer being within the Teen Drama genre, there is
a clear lack of intense editing compared to science ction or
fantasy lms. Even though we knew this, we still had a focus
on creating continuity within the trailer and presenting moods
through the colour correction, saturation and contrasts of all
three products.

Upon responses, there was limited feedback about our

editing, suggesting there wasnt anything too special about it.
However, when receiving verbal comments from peers they
were impressed with how much we were able to construct
products that eectively contained conventions of each
product style.
Editing (Colours)

Even though there is clearly a lack of intense editing, we made

sure to make up through the colour correction. In order to
align with conventions we reduced the saturation and use a
blue tone. Additionally, to bring about the external form of
social realism, we knew that by adjusting these colour tones,
we would implement a mundane tone within our lm.

Our audience response said that this eectively portrayed the

cold atmosphere of the specic location, exposing Riley-Mae
as a victim.
Fonts and Typography

Another vital feature is the use of titles. We experimented with many

dierent fonts during the construction of all of our products. This
also seemed to be one of our main issues with our magazine cover,
as the fonts seemed too basic and unprofessional when using sans
serif fonts for the main headlines. However by creating consistency
within our product by using the font Kenyan Coee we were able
to produce a more eective outcome. When using the font on our
trailer, we used tracking to produce a modern eect.

Our audience responded that they thought the fonts produced a

neat and professional look for all of our products, which was vital for
our overall products.
Filming Locations

From the outset, we believed setting was vital for our

trailer. We used local locations such as my house, my
local park and our school, and grounds around our
school. We wanted to maintain an isolated atmosphere
by choosing areas that had limited people in order to
build sympathy for Riley-Mae, presenting her as the
victim.

Our audience believed that our locations were eective
as they presented a sense of realism within the narrative.
It is therefore clear to see that we were able to achieve
our aims of creating a realistic narrative.
Filming Shots

When lming we took additional shots from our storyboard in order

to gain more footage to cut down when editing it together. We tried
to use a range of dierent shots and angles to present dierent
perceptions of character, for example low angle close ups to show
intimidation of Riley-Mae, but then an aerial shot to show her
vulnerability.

This is what seemed to lack from my AS coursework, therefore I was

determined to use a wider range of shots. Fortunately this was
eective as our audience response showed us that the range of
shots enabled them to develop the narrative.
Sound

One of the main elements we found dicult was nding music that
would t in eectively with the music we eventually purchased form
Tom Bailey. I personally felt that due to the lack of variation within
our music choices, we were limiting ourselves on producing an
eective trailer, however most of our audience feedback disagreed.
