Analog Shimmer Pads

Manual

OVERVIEW

After releasing my go to pad Petes Analog V Pad I quickly realised
something was missing. I often put my pad sounds through different
Shimmer type reverbs, both hardware and software reverbs, to
create different textures and atmospheres. So I decided to create
Petes Analog Shimmer Pads. A collection of my favourite Shimmer
effects, tweaked to exactly how I like them.

Whats included here is 4 unique, 100% Wet, Shimmer Reverb
Samples designed to be blended with Petes Analog V Pad:

1/ Sky Shimmer Analog V Pad through my favourite Shimmer
Reverb Pedal.
2/ Steal Shimmer An alternative sound through my favourite
Shimmer Reverb Pedal.
3/ Lex Shimmer Analog V Pad through my favourite Software
Reverb with a big High Pass Filter added to clean up the bottom end.
4/ Petes Custom Shimmer - Analog V Pad through a blend of my
favourite Shimmer Reverb Pedal and Software Reverb with some
added processing and additional effects.

Ive included two sample player versions:
- Kontakt 5. (Not the Free Kontakt Player)
- EXS24 (for Logic and MainStage)

The individual unlocked Wave files are also included for anyone that
wants to import them into a different sample player.

Each note has been sampled at 48kHz/24bit for approx. 30 sec each
and then looped. Notes were also lopped at different time positions
to give the most natural cross-fade loop transition possible.

I have mapped the Mod Wheel to a Low Pass Filter inside the Kontakt
5 version so you can brighten and mellow out the shimmer pads with
your Mod Wheel. For the EXS24 version you will need to map it
yourself to the Mod Wheel or controller of choice.

INSTALLATION FOR KONTAKT 5

Simply copy the folder Petes Analog Shimmer Pads and its contents
to any location on your hard drive. Then open Kontakt 5 and find the
folder you just copied under the Files tab in the top left hand corner
of Kontakt 5. Locate and open the nki files for each of the 4 shimmer
reverbs and youre ready to go!

INSTALLATION FOR EXS24

Drag and drop the folder Petes Analog Shimmer Pads into the
"Sampler Instruments" folder located at HD/Library/Application
Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/.

Note you can also store all of your EXS24 sound libraries on a second
hard drive to free up space, to do this create an Alias to the Samples
folders in this location - if you are unsure on how to create alias files,
I recommend just moving the files folder to the above location.

Next time you launch the EXS24 as an instrument in
Logic/MainStage, your new instruments will appear in the
Instruments list. If they dont, simply click on Refresh Menu in the
instrument dropdown menu to refresh you EXS24 instrument list.

Instruments can also be stored in the Sampler Instruments sub-
folder of any of the following folders:
~/Library/Application Support/Logic: User-defined or edited
instruments are stored here.
/Library/Application Support/Logic: Factory-supplied EXS
instruments are installed here.
/Applications/Logic 6 Series: EXS instruments created with the
Logic 6 Series are stored here.
/ProjectName: MainStage also searches for EXS Instruments in the
project folder.
USING PETES ANALOG SHIMMER PADS
I often change the reverb Feedback (Decay/Release) live to help with
song transitions etc. This can easily be simulated by mapping the
Release knob or slider to a midi controller so you can have real-time
control of this parameter.

KONTAKT 5 - Click on the Spanner shaped Icon in the top left corner
and scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Release knob on the
right hand side.

EXS24 The Release slider R is located in the bottom right corner.

I also suggest using these Shimmer Pads with the original dry Analog
V Pad. By adjusting the volume of these Shimmer Pads you can
determine how wet or dry you want the reverb signal to be.

In Kontakt 5 simply load Analog V Pad and any of the Shimmer Pads
into the same instance of Kontakt 5. When using the EXS24 simply
create a second channel strip in your DAW and add Analog V Pad to
one instance of EXS24 and a Shimmer Pad to the other instance.

I had a lot of fun creating these pads, and Ill definitely be using these
myself in my live setup. Especially when I dont have the hardware at
my fingertips.

ENJOY!
