HOME REMEDIES FOR OSTEOARTHRITIS / JOINTS PAIN

Paring off 1 pound is equal to 4 pounds less pressure on your knees. Regular exercise like walking,
swimming or biking will help to reduce weight.

MASSAGE THERAPY: Regular massaging will help reduce the intensity of pain, swelling and
inflammation due to osteoarthritis. Also massage improves blood circulation and has a soothing
impact on inflamed muscles.

Start with warm sesame oil to massage stiff and painful joints in the morning.

Heat 50 ml sesame oil or coconut oil, add 1 tbsp carom seeds and boil it. Cool it and remove the
seeds and apply this oil on effected joints 2-3 times a day.

Heat 50 ml sesame oil or mustard oil, add 4-5 garlic cloves and boil it till the cloves become
brown. Cool it and remove the cloves and apply this oil on effected joints 2-3 times a day.

Heat 1 cup of mustard oil and then add 10 gm of camphor in it. Massage this lukewarm oil 2-3
times a day. This increases blood supply and reduces inflammation and stiffness.

Hot fomentation with warm cloth or heated sandbag to be given immediately after massaging the
affected joint with any oil.

Cinnamon Mix 1 tsp cinnamon powder and 1 tsp honey and take it empty stomach every morning.

Fenugreek( ) Add 1 tsp of fenugreek in a cup of water and keep it overnight. Mix it well and
drink next morning.

Ginger - Boil 10-12 slices of ginger in 8 cups of water for 5 minutes and let it steep for another 10-15
minutes. Drink this tea at a warm temperature throughout the day.

Turmeric: Take tsp pure turmeric powder twice a day with water after meals. Boil tsp of
turmeric powder in one glass of milk and take it daily night.
Devadaru Boil 10 gms Roots and bark of Devadaru (Cedrus deodara) with 160 ml of water until
of it remains (40ml). Take Hot filtrate 2-3 times a day prior to half an hour of meal.

Castor or Erandmool: Decoction of roots of castor plant is highly effective in osteoarthritis. Prepare
and take it in the same way as for Devadaru decoction. Take 5-10 ml Castor oil every day in the
morning.

Dashmool: Take 10 ml of Dashmool decoction with th cup of water twice a day after meals.

Ashwagandha: Take 10 gms Ashwagandha powder with milk twice a day after breakfast and before
going to the bed.

Garlic: Taking 2-3 cloves early morning empty stomach helps in balancing Vata element which causes
pains in the body. Boil 2-3 Garlic cloves with 1 glass milk and take it at the bed time.

IMPORTANT COMBINATIONS
Make powder of equal quantity of Fenugreek + Turmeric + Cinnamon : - Take 1 tsp of mixture 2 times
after meals with normal water.

Make powder of equal quantity of Carom seeds + turmeric + dry ginger powder Take this powder 1
tsp after meal with water.

DIET FOR OSTEOARTHRITIS

Avoid eating dry and cold food items.

Fresh cooked and hot food should be consumed in regular diet.

Cows Ghee and oils in moderate amount are necessary in daily diet, as these keep the normal
joints properly lubricated and also provide lubrication to the dried up joints.

Avoid eating preserved and packed food stuff.

Use extra leafy vegetables in your diet.

Add spices like ginger , garlic , ajwain , hing etc. in your regular diet.
