SONG ANALYSIS

MUSICAL ANALYSIS

PART I:

DO ALL OF YOUR MUSICAL ANALYSIS ON A COPY OF YOUR MUSIC.

Use a copy of the sheet music of your song and label the following (be sure to make your notes
bold and easy to read):
1. The Introduction
2. The Form: Use the Verse/Refrain and ABA system. Take your time and consider
repeated material. Also realize that many songs do not fall into the standard song form though
they do have sections which can be labeled A, B (bridge) C and sometimes have a tag (or small
added section at the end) which can be considered a coda)
3. Star (**) the Climax

PART II: ALSO ON THE SHEET MUSIC:

1. Write one sentence that describes the overall style or feel of the song.
2. Above the intro Discuss dramatic info you get from what you hear
3. LISTEN TO THE MUSIC (separate from the words) find two to three important
musical elements and describe what you hear what dramatic information does each element
give you?
