A READING LESSON
Unit Description
Participants are familiarized with the three-stage structure of a reading lesson pre-, while-
and post-reading. Teachers also explore the purposes of each lesson stage and the
activities typically carried out in each stage.

1. Inform participants that a number of activities for a reading text are provided.
2. Ask participants to skim the text.
3. Get participants to work individually to scrutinize each activity. Ask participants to
figure out the purpose of each activity and to indicate if it is suited to the pre-,
while- or post-reading stage of the lesson.
4. Get participants to discuss their answers with their partners.
5. Discuss the answers with the class.
