What is the purpose of your article that you have to write?

The purpose is to, overall, make people aware of cyberbullying. In detail, this will be done
by informing them on the differences of this specific type of bullying and important facts on
where cyberbullying occurs. I think the purpose, as well as to inform, is also to make
audience reassured through the content in ways cyberbullying can be stopped. It is
important that part of the purpose is to make people who are being cyber bullied feel
supported, especially as the article is targeted at a young audience who are more likely to
be cyber-bullied.

Who is the audience?

Looking at the topic of the article, I would say that it is targeted at a young audience. As
this is for CBBCs Newsround, a well known childrens channel, their target audience is 6
to 12 year olds. The childrens channel is very neutral, so the audience includes both
genders.

Should the language be informal or formal and why?

As it is directed to a young audience, the language should be mostly informal so its

understandable . However, I also think there should be some formality as it is a news
report and a serious subject but then at the same time because of the target audience it
has to be appropriate and age friendly. To do this I will include large amounts of colloquial
language with simple, friendly vocabulary while keeping aspects of formality. The
sensational language will be minimal, and only used to draw the young viewers in,
highlighting how important the information is.

Is the style direct or indirect and why?

As the audience presenter and the audience are young, the style will be extremely direct
and basic. I think this style fits the show as the youngest age in the audience is 6 years,
meaning the style has to be interesting and direct, to avoid boring them.

Should the tone be teacher to pupil, parent to child or peer to peer? Remember this
is Newsround. What is the expected tone and how does your article achieve this?

The tone should be peer to peer, as I think is the best way to deliver the content across to
them. Therefore, I think expected tone is to be relaxed and clear to show it is a serious
topic, although only to a suitable extent so moral panic isnt created. My article achieves
this by addressing the audience in peer to peer way, which makes the tone and style open
to discussion equally then inviting the viewers to be engaged in the story. Newsround
presenters are peers to viewers as they are known by their Christian names and are not
addressed in a formal way of Mr/Mrs.

Why did you use the images / video you used? How did they enhance the article for
the audience?
I used images of different social media platforms, because it helps explain and visualise
the information being given. I think it then enhances the article as the images can show
more than a thousand words, and with the different social media icons, the audience can
relate to which platform they are involved with.

Are your initial sentences structured so that the who, what and where is clear in
the opening paragraph? Give examples.

I think that I have includes and structured the who, what, and where into my opening
paragraph. For example, the red text is what the topic will be for today, the purple text is
where that topic
takes place on and
the blue text is who
the story is about.

Does your next few paragraphs include the why and how.? Give examples

In this section of my
story, the green text
shows the why question
and the answer follows.

Below this in another paragraph, I include the how by structuring a explanation on how a
victim of cyberbullying may feel.

Did you include at least two of the most useful and valid sources that were
evaluated in D1? Discuss how these enhanced your article.

As one of my most useful sources I included the interview with the student because she
gave some really important points and highlighted how it was different from other forms of
bullying, as well as how difficult it is.

I found the information of 81% of young people think bullying online is easier to get away
with than bullying in person. from DoSomething.org useful and enhanced the article by
showing, once again, the difference with online line bullying but also answers one of my
questions of why cyberbullying is still around the today - as many people are anonymous
online.
