The SC100 10.6-megapixel color camera SC100 is the
new flagship of the Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions
(OSIS) digital CMOS camera product line up. It offers
unsurpassed lateral resolution without compromising
sensitivity requirements. The SC100 is the right camera
for all microscopic applications requiring rich details
combined with true-color reproduction capabilities.
The SC100 is the second camera in our SC series. The ca-
mera offers excellent properties for all customers with de-
mands in brightfield applications, where optimal color re-
production and optimal resolution are of interest. With its
fast frame rates, real-time live display, perfect color repro-
duction and excellent price/performance ratio, the SC100 is
a superb solution for a broad range of applications, e.g. in
the fields of life sciences, industrial, and educational appli-
cations as well as in digital documentation.

sensor element size. Compared to the SC30, its smaller fa-
mily member, the SC100 offers three times more pixels co-
vering the same sensing area. Therefore, the SC100 is the
ultimate choice for light microscope techniques requiring
optimum lateral resolution.
Although not developed for low-light applications, it can be
used as an entry model when run in 2x binning mode. The
2x binning mode of the SC100 offers 2.6 megapixels at four
times its base sensitivity. While typical low-light applica-
tions like fluorescence microscopy are still dedicated to the
OSIS range of cooled CCD cameras, the binned SC100 of-
fers sensitivity comparable to or better than uncooled CCD
cameras.
The SC100 can be operated using the Olympus GetIT image
acquisition software included with every OSIS camera. For
demanding applications in bioscience and industrial fields,
the Olympus cellSens and Olympus Stream lines of pro-
ducts offer advanced support for all SC100 features.
The Chip
The 10.6-megapixel CMOS chip with 3,840 x 2,748 pixels
used in the SC100 is digitized with a 12-bit resolution. Only
the upper 8 bits are taken to provide low-noise 24-bit color
images. The exposure time at full resolution can be varied
between 340 s and 14.6 s, while 117 s to 6.8 s is possi-
ble at 2x binning. With a pixel size of 1.67 m x 1.67 m the
SC100 offers a digital resolution which is able to keep up
with the optical resolution of the best lenses in the Olympus
range of objectives.
Frame Rates
The SC100 supports its native full frame and two different
binning modes: 2x and 4x. At full resolution, the SC100 pro-
vides a live frame of 3.2 fps, which increases to 12 fps at 2x
binning and 42 fps at 4x binning mode.
Image Quality
Proper color reproduction is extremely important to all
digital microscope imaging systems. The ICC color profile
technology of the Olympus True Color (OTC) system inte-
grated in cellSens and Stream ensures that the native colors
of the sample are kept when acquiring live and still images.
The ICC color processing is done in real time, facilitating
proper colors even in high-throughput live modes. SC100
