PART A: After getting introduced with a example video the students can be given a list of topic that they can choose from. For
that list, they can do some research and find material that can be put into the video. From there, they can post the video to a
class blog or showcase them at the school. They will also have a chance to show their creations in class If I start by showing
them a video on a different topic but at in the same subject to let them still be creative. They will do some research and
gathering materials inside and outside the classroom. After some time to do that, the class would go to the lab, where the
technology teacher would guide them through making a video. They will have more time to work on it on their own before they
present their project. The project will go up on a class blog to showcase you their parents and other important people.
Grade Level: First Grade

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:

SS1H1 Read about and describe the life of historical figures in American history.

1. Identify the contributions made by these figures: Benjamin Franklin (inventor/author/ statesman), Thomas Jefferson
(Declaration of Independence), Meriwether Lewis and William Clark with Sacagawea (exploration), Theodore
Roosevelt (National Parks and the environment), George Washington Carver (science), and Ruby Bridges (civil rights).
2. Describe how everyday life of these historical figures is similar to and different from everyday life in the present (for
example: food, clothing, homes, transportation, communication, recreation, etc.).

Brief Description of Learning Experience:
The teacher will need to create a video to introduce the new topic and the new project to both the students and parents so
everyone is well informed. You need to know and double check to see what students are allowed to post and have given consent
for the student to post. The way that the teacher will introduce the project is by showing and example of a project. I would show
one that is the same subject but a different topic. You want to show them an example and not something to mirror. So it if is on a
topic that is different, it is something she they can think about but not make a copy of. I would imagine this project would take
weeks to do.
I would start by having the student pick a topic and start doing research inside and outside the classroom. After the students
have had lot of time to gather material and thinks of the ways they want their video to flow. The next step would to bring in the
technology teach help guide them in making a video. I would give them class time over a few weeks to work on the project. I
would have checkpoints that the students have a pass to move onto the next step of the project. The projects will be posted to the
class blog for the parents to see. With the permission, they could be used to teach the different topics that the students completed
them on. When they are all done, the teacher will grade the projects.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking:
I believe that this project would be a Loti level 4. They are using different technology tool to create the one project.
They will be creating a project that will help teach the different topic in the one standard. They are going to have to
conduct research and think about the order and history of the topic to create the project.
Importance of technology:
I think it important to use technology in the classroom because of the times we live in. To do this project, you have to have to
have the technology tools needed. I could be done with out them. You could do some of your research with the tool but they are
still needed. For the most part, everything is done a computer but the student will use different tool on the computer like the
internet and moviemaker.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether in part or whole),
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
With posting the projects to the blog and on the internet, we need to keep those students safe. Using code name can help hide
the student identity. I would not use any personal picture or wring in the project. If you post it on the blog then you could put it
on a lock page and give it to the parents. Keeping personal information is important. Using a kid friendly page will keep the
search safe.
