History of Australian Fashion Weel, The inaugural Australian Fashion Week was established in 1995 by PR and marketing consultant Simon Lock and his business Australian Fashion Innovators with the ambitious plan of placing Sydney on the global fashion map. The event aimed to attract the cream of local and international fashion buyers and media to view the catwalk presentations of Australian designers’ spring/summer collections. Australian Fashion Week quickly became a mainstay of the fashion calendar. Today the event has an expanded focus on the Asia Pacific region and is reaching audiences beyond the industry through the Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival. Australian designers are experiencing unprecedented interest in their work - both at home and abroad ~ which would be inconceivable without the platform of Fashion Week. Here are some clothes that have caught the attention of media, buyers and the public over the last 15 years of fashion Week. AUSTRALIAN FASHION WEEK TECHNICAL DIRECTOR - BARRY WAFER The role of the Technical Director is to report to IMG on the underground running of how lighting, sound and staging works. They start to work on sets 4-5 months before the Fashion Week shows begin and have 200 people helping to build them. IMG brings to them designs, concepts and ideas for fashion week and then they work together on developing these plans into reality. Each designer has their own ideas and wants to have the parade that stands out and is different, so they help them to do that by creating backdrops, lighting, ect. PHOTOGRAPHER ~ ROBERT ROSEN ‘The only thing to change in photography over the past 15 years for Robert has been the transition from film to digital. Robert still uses smaller cameras, which he has become known for. He does this as it helps him to get the instantaneous shot before the people backstage know he has taken the photo and that creates the best effect. He loves photography as you become totally involved in the whole thing. With the designer, the model and the makeup people. Hayley Gollan
