Lesson Title: Learning about Astronomy

Grade Level: 6th

Subject: Science
Description of Learning Goals, Standards, Objectives
CC/GPSs: S6E1. Students will understand the effects of the relative positions of the
earth, moon and sun.
a. Demonstrate the phases of the moon by showing the alignment
of the earth, moon, and sun.
b. Explain the alignment of the earth, moon, and sun during solar
and lunar eclipses.

S6E2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the effects

of the relative positions of the sun, Earth, and moon.
a. Develop and use a model to demonstrate the phases of the moon by
showing the relative positions of the sun, Earth, and moon.
b. Construct an explanation of the cause of solar and lunar eclipses.
c. Analyze and interpret data to relate the tilt of the Earth to the
distribution of sunlight throughout the year and its effect on seasons.
National Technology TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH TOOLS
Standards: Students use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect
information from a variety of sources.
Students evaluate and select new information resources and
technological innovations based on the appropriateness for
specific tasks.
Long-Term Learning Demonstrate the phases of the moon
Goal or Outcome:
Explain the alignment of the earth, moon, and sun during solar
and lunar eclipses.

ABCD Objectives or With your learners characteristics in mind, take the standards written
Outcomes: above and rewrite them using the Audience Behavior Condition Degree
method. Note: You will need to break down the GPSs into several
objectives.
Audience- Student
Behavior- Demonstrate the phases of the moon by showing the
alignment of the earth, moon, and sun. Explain the alignment of the
earth, moon, and sun during solar and lunar eclipses.
Condition- Demonstrate the phases of the moon. Explain the
alignment of the earth, moon, and sun during solar and lunar eclipses.
Degree- At what level does the behavior need to be performed?
100% of the time.

Description of Assessment
Assessment Plan: Benchmark Review- Beginning of Lesson
Science Benchmark- End of Lesson
Cut-and-paste Moon Phase.
Description of Activities with Technology and Materials
Activity Design:
Plan to create curricula that includes diverse and
multiple perspectives.
Class starter and lesson connection:
How will you get the students attention and
motivate them? What will you do/say or have the
students do/say in order to connect this lesson with
the previous one or build on prior knowledge?
First Ill have students make a concept map of
what comes to mind when you think of Earth, Sun,
and Moon.

Teacher and student activities: Describe the activities in which you and the
students will engage. Be a "fly on the wall" and
describe in detail what is going on in your
classroom.
Each student will be required to keep a journal of
notes about the moon every night. That will be
there h.w for the lesson. They are to write down
whatever they see that changes with the moon.
They will also be given quizzes based on the
material they have learned at the end of every two
days. Every day I will show short videos based on
the moon and the sun and we will have a class
discussion based on the video. We will also have
groups so the students can interact with each
other. One group will be Earth, Moon, and Sun.
Technology Connection: Each group will be required to make a project
based of their group names.

Describe the strategies you will use.

Teacher will differentiate all tests, quizzes and
worksheets for students. Rewards will be given to
the group with the highest project grade.

Do you need to provide direct instruction? If so,

describe it.
Most of the activities I will show students examples
of what I expect and they will also have rubrics for
some activates.

Will you facilitate the lesson? If so, describe your

approach. Depending on how well the students are
learning the material that is being taught I will
move on. If the material is not being understood I
Materials and Resources: will spend more time on that certain subject.

Will students work independently, with a partner or

in groups? Describe. Students will do all of the
above. There will be projects and activities which
would require students work with a partner or in a
group.

What strategies, materials, etc. are you using to

teach children with exceptionalities?
Textbook, YouTube, power point lessons.

Which technology will support the lesson? List the

technology, software, URLs, etc. that you and/or
the students will use. Describe the technology
integration strategies you will use.

These videos are to help my students get a visual
understanding of some of the things we will be
talking about in the lesson.

List any handouts, books, equipment, media, etc.

that you will use to support your lesson.
Textbook, YouTube, notes, Reading essentials
book, and lab activities

Reflection on Lesson Design

Future Actions : Answer the following questions:

Explain how you incorporated information from the

chapter and D2L modules into this lesson plan.
After using the modules I focused a lot on
technology and wanted to make my lesson plan as
much fun as possible. It is important to me to use a
lot of technology because of the info from the
chapter explains hoe technology can be good for
students.

After considering this lesson plan, what will you do

differently when you design the next lesson in light
of your new understandings?
Most likely I will probably add a better activity for
my students to perform as a group.

Or, if you had more time/resources, etc., how

would you change the lesson and/or technology
artifact?
If I could add Ipads to the class it would make
things so much easier for my students. It will allow
more access to technology and allow my students
access at their figure tips.

How does your technology artifact showcase

design principles?
The Principles are concepts used to organize or
arrange the structural elements of design.

How does your technology artifact require student

use of higher order thinking skills?
It requires my students to access more of their
critical thinking skills and to use to technology to
better their knowledge.

How does the technology in your lesson align to

the content you are trying to teach in your lesson?
It gives a more in depth understanding of the
concepts and with researching online it will make
students use their higher thinking to improve their
knowledge of Astronomy. Popplet is the name of
the app that will be used to create concept maps
for my students.
