(1) (9) Standards: Include content area and ISTE NETS for Students standards.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.A.1
Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes.
Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of
time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.A.2
Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of
grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l). Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-
step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units,
e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent
the problem.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.B.4
Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves
and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot, where the horizontal
scale is marked off in appropriate units whole numbers, halves, or quarters.

ISTE 1a
Articulate and set personal learning goals, develop strategies leveraging technology to
achieve them and reflect on the learning process itself to improve learning outcomes.

ISTE 1c
Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and
to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.

(2) Lesson Objectives:

Students will be able to use computer programs to practice measuring time, length,
mass, and volume using the specified games and quizzes.
Students will be able to summarize their learning by creating a power point slide listing
key vocabulary and terms associated with their assigned measurement skill and present
their summaries to the class.

(4) Introduce the Learning Activity:

A. I will introduce the lesson by telling the students that we will be reviewing for their
final test on time and measurement. The teacher will explain that the students have
done a lot of hands on practicing with these skills but we will be reviewing and practicing
the concepts they have learned in a different way. I will tell the class that they will be
using games on the computer, then using all the information they have learned
throughout the unit to create a slide about one of the measurements; highlighting the
key points such as vocabulary, and parts of the procedure that someone who is just
learning how to measure would need to know.
B. I will use the fact that the students will be playing computer games for class as a way
to motivate them. The students will be excited to do something different than the normal
lessons of direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice that they have
had to do for each type of measurement throughout the unit. Students at this age will be
motivated to participate in this lesson because they will be allowed to use the computer
by playing fun games that will help them review the material that they have already
learned and better prepare them for the final assessment.

(5) Provide Information:

A. The students will have received multiple vocabulary and cheat sheets throughout
the semester. I will take all those sheets, pull the most important aspects off of each one
and compile them onto one google document that I will share with the class. This
document will help the students remember the key points of each of the measurements,
as well as help them decide on the key points they would like to add to the presentation
slide. Since this slide would potentially be used to teach other students these forms of
measurement it is vital that the information the students put on the slides are accurate. I
will make sure to mention that the cheat sheet is just for them to reference, not for them
to copy and paste from.

(6) Provide Practice:

A. After I introduce the lesson and explain to the students what we will be completing,
as well as explaining the objectives, I will give them a set amount of time (5-7 minutes)
to explore the sites and play the games and take the quizzes that are offered on the
website.
B. After the students spend several minutes playing and exploring the games that are
offered they will be asked to create one slide on the shared google slide document that
gives an overview of one of the types of measurements, each student will be assigned
one. The slides will be compiled together on one google presentation that all the
members of the class will have access to.

(7) Provide Knowledge of Results:

A. Verbal feedback will be given to the students regularly throughout the entire lesson.
The students will be working on their own to play and explore the games and quizzes
that are provided and I will be checking in with each student as they play to make sure
they do not have any questions and understand what they are supposed to be doing. I
will also give the students ample time to make their presentation slides. I will again
check in with each student making sure they understand the directions and are
completing the assignment correctly. I will be available throughout the lesson to answer
any questions the students may have.
B. After the lesson I will give written feedback on the presentation slide the students
complete I will provide the students with a rubric which has extensive feedback
concerning the vocabulary, key points, and one tip for students, creativity, as well as
spelling/grammar.

(8) Review the Activity:

A. The class will review the material covered in the lesson by giving a description of the
slide they have created. Each student will spend a minute or so talking about the
vocabulary and the key points on their slide and well as the tip they are providing for
future students. The students should also give a rational as to why the tip they put on
their slide is important and worth telling future students.

(3) Method of Assessment:

A. I will be assessing the students on the presentation slide they create. I will be using
the following rubric to assess the students out of a possible 15 points. Students will be
assessed on the vocabulary and key points they choose, the tip they provide for future
students, their creativity, and their spelling/grammar.
