Introduction to English for Non-Native Speakers

Course Description
This course offers practice in beginning English using speaking, listening,
reading, and writing skills. Students will be provided instruction based on their
learning needs and goals. This class has been designed to move at the learning
pace of the students. Course material and topics will be selected by
participating students and tailored to focus on their individual needs. This
course is especially designed for non-native adults who require assistance with
English language needs that may go beyond classroom application. Such as
help with job applications or work related tasks, housing applications, formal
letters or phone calls, transportation/direction assistance, childrens schooling,
medical forms or needs, etc.

Course Objectives
The main goal of this course is for students to integrate into the American
Culture and begin the transition into becoming independent members of
society.
Specifically, students will be able to:
1. Communicate using basic English conversational skills.
2. Communicate in contexts that students expressed were most necessary.
3. Write and fill out their personal information using typical forms and
applications.
4. Read common signs on businesses and streets (doctor, grocery store,
library, stop sign, school crossing, etc.)

*Materials will be provided for students. No textbooks required.

Student Responsibilities
1. Please be respectful of your peers and teacher by being attentive.
2. Please be compassionate of others feelings. Our classroom is a safe
space for everyone to learn and make mistakes.
3. Please talk to me either before or after class if you are having any issues
in the class.
4. There will be no homework assignments. However, students are
expected to actively participate in class.
5. Please attend classes on time.
