Prior to this lesson, the words conflict, resolution, communication, and respect will be
defined as a class. This will help the students later on in the lesson and further their
understanding.

VII. Lesson Beginning:

As a warm up to the rest of the lesson plan, ask students the following questions as a
class:
-What does it mean to talk and work things out?
-If you and another person disagree about something, or aren't getting along, or
are having an argument, name some things that you definitely should not do.

VIII. Instructional Plan:

1. Have students sit on the carpet.
2. Read Talk and Work It Out (Learning to Get Along) by Cheri J. Meiners, M.Ed.
3. As each page is read, ask students what is happening in the picture.
4. Put students into pairs.
5. Each pair will be given a scenario which they will act out to the class. The scenarios involve
conflict situations, where the students will use techniques learned from the story.
6. Send students back to their seats.
7. Hand out paper and crayons.
8. Ask students to write a situation where they used communication to resolve a conflict.
9. Ask students to include a picture.

IX. Conclusion:
To conclude the lesson, go over some of the major ways to solve conflicts. Ask students
the following question: "When the conflict is settled in a way that isn't fair, how do people feel?"
This shows students that they should always consider others feelings when addressing a conflict.
Finally, tell the students how great they did in using communication and solving conflicts.

Title of Artifact: Lesson Plan 2
Standard: Standard Six Assessment The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of
assessment to engage learners in examining their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to
guide the teachers and learners decision-making.

I am placing my artifact, Lesson Plan 2, under Standard Six- Assessment, as evidence of

continued mastery towards helping students understand and assess their own progress and
emotions. Through strategies and support from teachers, students must learn to handle conflicts
on their own. In Lesson Plan 2, students were asked to act out/respond to a particular situation
with a partner, which encouraged creativity and acting. Students learned methods for handling
conflict and when to tell an adult. This is evidence of my ability to engage learners in self
assessment and self reflection to guide the students decision making.
