General TIPS for preparation of the GATE exams:

1. GATE Exam is not looking for any syllabus completion from the candidate. A good understanding of the basic
concepts and their application is required.
2. As a thumb rule, while solving any GATE problem, if the solution takes more than 8 steps, u must re-look at the
approach. (Generally GATE problems are not lengthy).
3. While solving the problem, students must have balance between speed & accuracy.
4. Preparation time for GATE is subjective and depends on the so many factors such as individuals
aptitude, fundamentals, attitude, concentration level etc
5. Keep a check on your performance; it is compulsory to directly jump upon the previous GATE question on the
topic you just finished. You can try to solve some examples in model papers also.
6. Any problem can be tackled in number of ways. So being innovative and intuitive also helps to reach the correct
option quickly.
7. You should have done sufficient study/ discussion, so that the moment you start reading the question you should
have an intuition on whether you can solve it.
8. While preparing always keep your goal in thought and fancy being in the place like top institutes wherever you
want to have admission.
9. In the last days of preparation, if you have any doubts about any topic/formula, you can have a look on these
sections. Always remember, more doubts lead to more concept building.
10. Leave all the books few days before the exam. Have some good time and relax.

Hope this helps!!!

Coaching is advisable here if you can join. If you can't get their handwritten notes that will guide you in right direction
about what you should study.

Apart from this, you can try one subject or two at a time. If it's two then choose one basic subject and the other
comparitively easier.

Keep making short notes while you study. Keep solving previous year questions as you go through each topic.

Provide a slot for the revision so that you remain in touch with the subjects or you will loose their track over time.

Join online test series. You will feel the competition and see your mistakes also.

Finally, best of luck.

Start as early as possible.

First make a time table depending upon your strengths and weakness in subjects. Make sure you are going to follow
that strictly.
Start with a subject and solve all the previous gate and ies objective questions you will get to know the level of exam
at the same time you have solved around 200 questions(may be more but not less) and covered the important concepts.
Then in any test series give the sectional and subject test. make a note of your mistake analyse your performance and
at the end close that subject by making a short note of that subject all by yourself.
Do the same for all subjects. Once in a week just look at the short notes so that you remain in touch with the subject.
Then proceed to full length test series . Analyse your performance and most important analyse your mistakes.

Planning is most important part for the preparation of competitive exam like Gate 2018. Gate exam is the actual gate
of your success as an engineer. As per a news of Hindustan Times Gate may be mandatory for all Engineers in coming
years.

Gate 2018 is scheduled for February first week of 2018. First you should divide the available time in three parts.
First part may extend from one week to 15 days.

First part for collecting Syllabus, books, previous years solved gate papers and finalizing Guide/ mentor/ coaching.
Because this selection matter a lot for your career. If you will not study from standard books/ notes then you may lag
behind in concept building. Concept building is the r

Practice of previous year questions along with probable questions is a must for gate preparations. If you will not
practice the gate exam type questions after studying concepts, then you may forget the concept.

Second part is concept building and it should be of at least 6 months. Divide your syllabus in 12 parts. Almost in all
branches 10 main subjects, Mathematics and aptitude are the parts of syllabus. Give equal importance to all subjects.
Divide these subjects in two categories- difficult & simple. Arrange these subjects in difficult and simple, one after the
other. follow this pattern from 1 to 12.

Stick to your study schedule. So now you have 15 days for a subject. Fifteen days time is appropriate for all subjects.
If you feel a subject is difficult then increase your study hrs per day. And study hard for these fifteen days. Thereafter
took a simple subject and then study it leisurely. This pattern will give you a feeling of relaxation during preparation.

Third part is revision and it should be of at least one month. Suppose you are planning to start your preparation from
June. So first 15 days for material collection, 6 months for preparation, now you have full one and half month for
revision. This is sufficient to revise notes, practice previous year gate papers and attempting test series meant for gate
exam.

You may further note that during preparation of gate exam you should keep your motivation level high, it will help in
achieving the goal you aspire for. Eat simple, Study hard, Feel good and keep smiling

Ravi Singh Choudhary, Qualified GATE 2015 with gate score 809
Written Nov 5

If you don't want to read this long post. Just scroll down to the last paragraph, it will be enough for you if you could
follow them well. Afterall doing Quora all the day will be a wastage of time for Gate aspirants well.

Now those who are dropouts will not having below mentioned problem ;). So you have almost 14 months left for
Gate 2018. I assume that you have become sincere and much more disciplined than past 3 years of college. Following
months will be having chaos of campus placement, final year project submission and some corner of your heart will
tell you let's make my CGPA better also. Some will having problem with their Gf/Bf; I mean couples start to think
about their future and so on. So be prepared for all these situations and any planning or strategy will not be executed to
your potential level.

One of my experience of all these written examination is that you do not require command over your subjects. Those 7
marks university questions were the toughest of all. Do not just plan; develop habits. Habits will reduce your silly
mistakes and will land you to 40 marks at least. Now what are those habits? Habits of everyday revision of learned
topics and formulas. Now it appears to be the most boring thing. But I must tell you, I regret of not having this habit
as I could have landed into double digit rank. Previous year question banks solution can help you a lot while
memorising the formulae. Don't just read handbooks or short notes, see the full subjective questions, it will help you to
learn the concepts as well as formulas. Handbooks/short notes are the things of last couple of months. Similarly
test series are thing of last four months.

No one is superhuman. During these whole period of preparation everyone needs a motivation for consistency.
Motivation could be anything for you no matter but the point is do not forget your greatest motive behind all these
hardwork and planning. Surround your environment with things that motivates you. Many of my friend filled the wall
with quotes and all.

Take the printout of the syllabus and paste it somewhere so that everyday you could see it and feel the penetration level
of your preparation. It will help you to avoid learning irrelevant topics and all. Most of the college curriculum do not
match with gate syllabus. While it was time of semester examination I focussed on the common topics of both the
syllabus. In college we have choices of leaving some questions during semester examination. You do same thing but
do not skip those questions while studying which is important with respect to Gate, no matter easy or hard.

Do not fight with most wanted questions of 29 years of previous year papers. Believe me you have a very big chunk of
syllabus. Learn easy things first. Revise them well then move to moderate level of questions and so on. You are not
targeting 100 marks I assume. 80 marks would be good enough for you to land in PSUs or Top IITs.

Please develop habit of doing small arithmetic of your own. Because Offline Calculator is not allowed and doing every
calculation on virtual calculator will cost you 2,3 questions with respect to time. I do not mean to say you do not get
time to solve few questions out of 65 but time for revision will get reduced. You will not acknowledge but I must say,
you have forgotten your power of mental calculation little bit.

Do not make future routines. Christopher Nolan can deviate you from following them. Before sleep write down the
today's activity related to study, it will boost you if you have utilised your day or it will make you much more sincere
for tomorrow. Calender App is there.

You have thought well for your future and still thinking. Avoid overthinking. You could have tens of reasons for not
qualifying gate but find one single reason. Practice practice and practice. The more number of questions you have
solved before the judgement day will help you. Now summarising the whole story plan as much as flexible so
that you stick to themRevise formulas through subjective questions or previous year solution not just with
handbookMastery of virtual calculator is mustDo not fight with questionsUse calendar app not for future
routines but for past activitiesDo not forget your source of motivation.

Practice practice practice Qayamat aane tak :D. Gate nahi toh koi na koi exam toh phod hi doge. Best wishes
from my side.

Rahul Ranjan, 93 percentile in Gate 2016

GATE preparation is all about consistency.

1. Read for a fixed number of hours, EVERYDAY. I repeat, EVERYDAY.

2. Take breaks in between.Especially after two-three hours. Sometimes it so happens that our brain wants to keep
studying till five-six hours continuously and then take a LONG BREAK. But that's not the suggested way to do
it.
3. Take shorter breaks. You'll learn more. You'll have patience for one extra page, two more questions or three.
That'll count.

And the things that you will SURELY need to avoid is studying too much for some days and then taking rest for a few
days. By that way, you'll be less productive. Because there's a limit to human brain intake. If you study all day, your
brain starts rejecting new things or forgetting the old things. Both ways, loss is yours. And by studying in this manner
for even two days can take a toll on you, both physically and emotionally. First, you'll get tired and exhausted. Second,
you'll feel that you've studied a lot and you'll THINK that you can afford to lose some days rejuvenating.

GATE (The Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering) 2018 Exam is a gateway for qualifying candidates to secure
admission for postgraduate programs in centrally funded Indian institutions. This year IIT Roorkee is organising
institute for GATE Exam.

GATE is highly competitive entrance exam where lakhs of candidates appear for examination to crack the exam and
hence it requires good tips for GATE preparation.

Here is a list of tips that you must go through to ace your GATE exam.

1. Know the Exam pattern :The GATE Exam is a single paper online examination of three hours, with 65
questions carrying a total of 100 marks. The question paper will consist of both multiple choice questions and
numerical answer type questions.
2. Follow the GATE Syllabus : During your preparation, aim to complete the given syllabus rather than studying
out of syllabus topics.Since there are many subjects included in the syllabus, it is important that you should make
a particular study plan to prepare each and every topic of syllabus.
3. Read standard text books : Prepare atleast one standard text book for each subject in GATE syllabus.Reading
one book may not cover the complete syllabus. In such a scenario you must ensure that you are not relying on
these text books completely. To avoid this, it is a good practice to actively engage yourself through online
platforms that provide resource material for your practice.
4. Understand fundamentals and Practice quizzes: Initially, focus on understanding the concepts and later focus
on mastering each topic through the practice tests. For this purpose, you must aim at solving as many
problems/quizzes as on regular basis and improve accuracy and performance in each test.
5. Preparation Time and Strategy : Preparation depends on many individual factors such as aptitude,
fundamentals, understanding level etc., typically, a rigorous preparation from 4 to 6 months is considered well
enough for getting into IISc or IITs.A topic by topic studying plan will help you understand each topic
extensively, with enough practice.
6. Make short revision notes : Once you have considerably gone ahead with your preparation, you can start
reading all the chapters again and prepare short notes for all important topics. These short notes can help you to
recall entire preparation and useful for your last-minute revision.
7. Recall all concepts and methods : After the preparation of complete syllabus, spend one month before the exam
to recall all concepts, formulas, methods and examples.Remember the definitions, important points and formulas
during the revision.Always remember to get your basic concepts clear, it will help you to crack even tough
questions.
8. Test your abilities : In order to maximize your chances to get a good performance score, you need to minimize
the time you spend during reading, understanding and solving for each question in the exam. Many of GATE
questions can be answered with reading and understanding. So final goal is to improve your time to solve each
question.

Shashwat Omar, Scoring above 99 percentile in GATE (CHE branch) from last six years
Written Jan 4, 2016

Originally Answered: If I want to be prepared for the GATE 2018, how can I plan that, how to read?

To crack any exam you need one thing

Motive

What is your own motive to crack GATE ?

It can be getting into PSU

It can be doing higher education

or it can be be the best in the nation

Whatever it is, only that motive will be your true friend. There will be times when you won't understand a concept, you
will keep asking yourself why i am reading this thing, what nonsense is this!

As pressure difference is necessary for fluid to flow, chemical potential is necessary for mass to flow, temperature
difference is necessary for heat to flow likewise your motive will help you going.

That being said, GATE is nothing like JEE or IAS where you need 2-3 years of rigorous studying. It is not marathon
but may be 5000m sprint. So, just focus on the fundamentals of every subject. Try to clear your concepts from
textbooks.

And start preparing from 6th or 7th sem. Till then, just chill and enjoy college life.

What time table should I follow to prepare for GATE 2018 ?
How to manage time for GATE 2019exam preparation?
You all must have this kind of questions in your mind.Below article will solve this puzzle of yours. Just take a look.

nfguy

Many of you candidates will not agree with this strict time table.
Le me give you some fact about GATE qualifying record.
Nearly 8 Lakh candidates fightGATE exam every year.
Only 15% (nearly) candidate qualify GATE.
AND
GATE qualifying Cut-off is just 25/100 (nearly).
Now you calculate how hard you need to prepare for IITs orPSUs ?

GATE (Graduate aptitude test in engineering) is an exam which require high concentration, determination & hard work continuously. It is a national
level exam so competition is high, obviously it requires a candidate to work hard throughout the whole year. There are many candidates who cant
join coaching for GATE exam preparation due to any sort of reason. Such candidates need a proper pathway to prepare this exam self. Actually a
preparation time table is a must one who is preparing for any competitive exam.

A goal without a plan is just a wish.

Many candidates have asked us about a rough preparation time table for GATE exam. We suggested them some ideas about time table making and
tell them to follow thattime tableregularly but after receiving a large number of same kind of request we finally decided to design arough
preparation time table for GATE 2018 aspirants. Some of those requests are :

Suggest me right time table to follow from this year and from which subject should Istart. Muddassir Habsi

Iam from ECEbrach. Iam in some what confusion about how can Istart my preparation with which subject. Please give time table of subjects.
Srujan

Can youhelp me in making the time table . As Iam doing job. Till what time period should Icomplete the study once. Drasty

and many more such comments are there.

In the series of GATEGuidance we are here through this article providingpreparation time table forGATE 2018. This post is little bit lengthy but we
tried to make it better, keeping in mind that this can help GATE 2018 aspirants fruitfully. Lets start this guidance with basic information about
GATE 2018 exam which every GATE 2018 aspirants must have.

Must Read :How to Crack GATE 2018 Without Coaching ?

This is a common preparation time table for Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electrical Engineering (EE),Electrical & Electronics Engineering
(EEE),Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Instrumentation & Control Engineering (ICE), Computer Science Engineering (CSE),
Information Technology (IT),Civil Engineering (CE) & all sort of engineering candidates who are preparing for GATE 2018.

Table-1 GATEPaper Pattern

First of all when we take a look to thepaper pattern of GATE 2018. There are three sections in the paper for paper codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS,
EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF and XE. Which are as shown in below table :

Paper Sections Marks Distribution

Subject Questions 70% of the total marks.

Engineering Mathemetics 15% of the total marks.
General Aptitude 15% of the total marks.

Must Read :Preparation strategy for GATE 2018

There are two sections in the paper for paper codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL.Which are as shown in below table :

Paper Sections Marks Distribution

Subject Questions 85% of the total marks.
General Aptitude 15% of the total marks.

A candidate need to attend all sections either it is three section for paper codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF and XE
or two sections for paper codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL.

Table-2 GATEExam Syllabus

Generally GATE exam syllabus of almost all branches contain 8-9 subjects which are related to their branch. Mathematics & General Aptitude are
also included in this GATE syllabus apart from branch related subjects. We have definedabout percentage of all these section usingtable 1 & 2.

Let us take an example of Electronics & Communication Engineering. One of themost competitive branch of engineering in GATE exam.

S. No. Topic Weightage

1. Engineering Mathematics 15%

2. General Aptitude 15%
3. Electronic Devices 8-9%
4. Signals and Systems 8-9%
5. Network theory 8-9%
6. Analog Electronic Circuits 8-9%
7. Digital Electronic Circuits 8-9%
8. Control Systems 8-9%
9. Communication Systems 8-9%
10. Electromagnetics 8-9%
* ALL Technical Subjects 70% (Collectively from 3 to 10)

From the above analysis candidates can easily understand the importance ofMathematics & General Aptitude in GATE paper. These 2 subjectsare
almost equal to 4 technical subjects.

Table-3 TotalPreparation Plan (9 Months)

From the above analysis candidates must have understand the plan of GATE 2018 exam very well. Now lets talk about GATE 2018 exam preparation
plan. Here we consider that a candidate have almost 9 months for GATE 2018 exam preparation.

Here we dedicated May month (1 month whole) for Learning basics of all subjects. 3 days for each subject, in this way a candidate can complete
basics of all 10 subjects of GATE with in a month approximately.Although GATE exam is known for numerical problems mainlybut without
understanding the topic you can notremember much for long period about that topic. So here you have to understand every topic of GATE syllabus
in precise manner.
S. No. Months Preparation Strategy
1. 5. May Learn Basics
2. 6. June Solve Problems
3. 7. July Solve Problems
4. 8. August Solve Problems
5. 9. September Solve Problems
6. 10. October Solve Problems
7. 11. November Revision 1 + Subject Wise Test Series
8. 12. December Revision 2 + Subject Wise Test Series
9. 1. January Revision 3 + Total Subject Test Series
* 2. February GATE Exam

Now next 5 months from June to October are dedicated to your subject preparation related to your branch. As we always said you must solve
previous years GATE papers of 20-30 years it will give you a good idea about questions which asked in GATE exam. These question will tell you what
kind of questions generally asked and from which area of syllabus of a particular subject generally questions designed in GATE exam.

Must Check :GATE 2018 Paper Pattern & Syllabus

After these 6 months we dedicated 3 months for revision and attending test series because revision will make yourknowledge strong and test series
will sharpen your knowledge according to GATE exam pattern. Out of these 3 months, for 2 months a candidate need to attend subjectwise test
series. It will tell you about the subject in which you are strong and in which you are weak. So that you prepare them well in this remaining months.
We dedicated 1 month for attending test series which contain all subjects in a single paper same as GATE exam.

Table-4MonthlyPreparation Plan (30 Days)

Now come to the month wise preparation plan. We considered here a month have 30 days and we divided these 30 days in 15-15 days slot. First 15
days are for subject -1 and next 15 days for subject -2. You can choose subject as per your interest. Remember you have to complete you whole GATE
syllabus if you really want to get good marks in GATE. So we are here suggesting you to choose one easy and one hard subject. It will help you to
cover your whole GATE syllabus and also it will help you prepare your weak subjects well.

Days Day by Day Plan

28 Revise (Chapter 1 to 10)
29 Solve Previous Years GATE Papers + Old Test Series Papers of Subject 2 Only
30 Buffer day

First 15 days plan:Out of these 15 days, first 5 days you prepare 5 chapters of any of your interest same in alternating manner like one easy and one
hard chapter. For this you must havecomplete knowledge about GATE syllabus and every topic which is defined in the GATE syllabus of your
subject. This is the main reason why we starting this article with GATE 2018 Paper pattern & Syllabus information.

Here we considered that GATE syllabus has 10 Subjects, each subject has 10 chapters and each chapter has 10 topics.

After these 5 days we dedicated 1 day for revision of all these 5 chapters. Next 5 days are dedicated for next5 Chapters from days 7 to 11. On day 12
one more revision of chapter 6to 10. Once you completed all these 1 more day is dedicate for revise of all 10 chapters of subject 1. After these 13 days
of study we dedicated a day for Previous years GATE papers solvingand Old test series of any coaching institute if you have. After this continues
study plan of 14 days we have dedicated one day for rest completely. You can use this day as you wish but remember dont do anything like which
affect you next day study. Candidates need to follow the same plan for subject-2 of the same month. This plan will continuously followed by a
candidate for next 5 months. In this way he/she would be able to complete all 10 subjects of GATE 2018 syllabus.

Must Check:Top 10 GATE Coaching Institutes in India

You all must have thinking that why this much study ? First this plan is specially designed for candidates who are starting their GATE 2018 exam
preparation from zero. Second if you think still this preparation plan of GATE 2018 exam is hard then you must check candidatequalifying record
of previous GATE exams.

Table-5 DailyPreparation Plan (24Hours)

Now come to day wisepreparation plan. We designed this plan considering that a candidate have 11 hours for study out of 24 hours. Which I think is
not veryhard for a candidate who is preparing for GATE exam. Out of these 11 hours we dedicated 10 hours for 10 important topics of a single
chapter of a single subject and remaining 1 hour for revision what you have studied in this day. In this time table candidates can take small breaks as
per their requirements.

However we designed this GATE 2018 exam preparation time table as per suitability of candidate but as we all knows there is no single time table
that suits everyone. Here we are providing you some pointswhichyou must consider while preparing an ideal time table which suits you. Please
consider following points :

1. How much time you can dedicatefor the preparation per day?
2.How much time you can dedicatefor the preparation permonth ?
3.How much time you can dedicatefor the preparation totally ?
4. In how many subjects you are strong ?
5. In how many subjects you are weak ?
6. How many subjectsyou need to prepare?
7. How much time each subject will take to finish?

By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.

We can here suggest you some ideas which will help you to make a perfect time table for your GATE 2018 examination. Please consider following
points :

1.Study all the subjects. Dont leave any subject.

2. Make a habit to make short notes as per your requirement.
2. Dont keep the time table fully packed.
3. Always keep buffer days as per your requirements.
4.Make sure that you revise every subject atleast twice before the exam.
5. Keep last one month for practising previous GATE papers.

You all must have thinking that why this much hours we have to read daily continuously till several months ? As per GATE exam analysis only 15-
16% candidates are able to clear GATE qualifying cut-off which is just 20-30 marks out of 100 marks. Now I hope you are clear about our vision of
making this tight and long lasting study plan.

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.

If you have prepared many subjects during your graduation period then you can reduce your preparation hours as well as months. This schedule is
specially designed for those who are starting their preparation from start and not joining any coaching institute for their GATE 2018 exam
preparation. If you still think that we can add more details in this article which will help GATE 2018 aspirants to make their preparation plan better.
You are always welcome for providing suggestions.

Thanks & Good Luck for GATE 2018 exam

Hello Pooja,

You can easily maintain study of 2 hours in the morning session and 2 hours in the evening session.
Example :
morning session : 4-6 am
evening session : 6-8 pm.
4 hour regular study would be good in these 3 months.

Hello manisha,

First of all it is good to know that you want to prepare for GATE exam from 3rd year of engineering.
3rd year of engineering is a good time for starting GATE exam preparation. From here if you regularly study till your GATE 2018 exam you will surely
get good marks in exam.
Just 4-5 hour study would be enough for GATE 2018 exam preparation.
First clear your basics give 5-6 days for each subject as per GATE syllabus. It will just take 50-60 days to prepare basics.
You must read these posts. These posts will give you an idea about GATE exam and about GATE exam preparation approach.

Hello akas,

First know your mistakes from last attempt and try to resolve them as soon as possible.
Standard books are must, other books are also acceptable but the study material provided in those books must be correct.

Find the areas from which mostly question asked. Prepare them good enough that any kind of question you can solve.
This time study topic wise like what question have been asked in GATE from Flip-Flop (for example) topic of Digital Electronics subject. Store all the
questions at one place and analyse them what kind of questions they asked from this topic, what is their difficulty level. In this way you will get good
idea about what topics are more important and what less. Nowadays there are many institute which provide topic wise solved papers of GATE.

In this competitive environment you need to know what to read but you have to know what not to read.

Is solving previous years papers and problems from Kanodia books enough for getting a top 100 rank in GATE EC 2017? I am currently enrolled in one test
series(full package) and thinking of joining two more only for the full length tests later in the year. Will it be enough? Some advice in these regards is highly
appreciated from my side.

Hello Sam,

If you believe in your study techniques and can do work hard then you can easily achieve your goal in GATE exam.
Kanodia books are good but they are only guide books if just by solving Kanodia books you can get rank in GATE under 100 then everyone will read
only those books.
Text books + Reference books + Test Series will make your GATE exam preparation better.
Join Test series for GATE as much as you can but attend them with full attention and with full preparation otherwise they are not more than wasting
time.

Please, tell whether to refer books or not ,bcoz, each topper says that you should clear ur concepts for every topic if you want good marks. So, please tell how
much we should study books and how to manage that time in this time table. One more thing, please tell how to make effecrive notes for revision. Thankyou

Hello dev,

(1) You have almost 8 moths to prepare for GATE. You can refer standard books for your preparation. Invest 1-2 days for basic of each subject
preparation. Do not invest too much time on a single topic or chapter. Set a time limit for everything n set target for a day.
(2) Buy a chapter wise previous years papers book of last 15-20 years and start solving them from chapter 1 to last. Solve similar kind of problems
from reference books and if you find difficulty in understanding any topic you can refer reference books now.
(3) Notes means the most important point or formula from exam point of view. Note only those in your note book. One chapter note should completed
within a page of notebook, in this way you would have a 10 page note of a subject which contain 10 chapters. You can minimise them later while
revising them. Consider you minimize them in 4-5 pages of each subject, if there are 10 subject in your GATE syllabus then you need to revise those
40-50 pages only a day before GATE exam.

I am Going to start preparing for GATE 2017. Only 6 months are left so I am confused between going to a coaching center for Studies or preparing by Self
Study and giving the Mock Test in any good institute. Going to a coaching center would basically mean no self study on Sat and Sun and obviously is costly
as well. So any help to clear my confusion would be really appreciated.

Must Read :10 Toppers Tips to Crack GATE 2018

* 2. February GATE Exam

1 Subject 1 - Chapter 1 (Solve Problems)

2 Subject 1 - Chapter 2 (Solve Problems)
3 Subject 1 - Chapter 3 (Solve Problems)
4 Subject 1 - Chapter 4 (Solve Problems)

27 Revise (Chapter 6 to 10)
28 Revise (Chapter 1 to 10)
29 Solve Previous Years GATE Papers + Old Test Series Papers of Subject 2 Only
30 Buffer day

Hours Hour by Hour Plan

12 PM - 1 AM Free
1 AM - 2 AM Free
2 AM - 3 AM Free
3 AM - 4 AM Free
4 AM - 5 AM Free

10 PM - 11 PM Free
11 PM - 12 PM Free

4 hour regular study would be good in these 3 months.

get good marks in exam.

Join Test series for GATE as much as you can but attend them with full attention and with full preparation otherwise they are not more than wasting
time.

much we should study books and how to manage that time in this time table.

It is good to hear that you wish to start your GATE 2018 journey now. It is always better to start as early as possible so
that you can put more effort into preparation.

GATE 2018 will be conducted by IIT Guwahati and from this date there are almost 11 months left for GATE 2018. I
would recommend that out of these 11 months you can dedicate almost 9 months for covering GATE syllabus i.e. from
March to November and once you complete 56 subjects you can start revision. So you can start revision from the
month of September. This will enable you to complete the course with revision by the month of December and then
you dedicate the month of January for Mock Tests and second revision.
This is a rough outline of the plan that I recommend. If you wish to know in more detail how to go about GATE 2018
preparation, you can watch the video on the link below:

Follow the steps given below. This may helps you during your gate preparation.

1) Do not neglect Aptitude and General English. Do at least 20-30 questions for aptitude and read the newspaper
daily for 15-20 minutes you need only practice for aptitude and this will also help full to you in campus placements
also.

2) Now start with ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS ,dont do the complete mathematics separate it in different
part divide it in CALCULUS ,MATRIX,VECTOR,PROBABILITY,DIFFERENTIAL AND NUMERICAL
INTEGRATION.

One topic you can complete in 3 hours with previous question, try to solve more question because at the end you need
more practice. So along with mathematics start basic subjects like NETWORK, CONTROL,SIGNAL OR
DIGITAL.

Complete all the subject mention above first then go for core subjects because basic knowledge of these subjects will
help you for the core subjects. It will not take more than a month if you prepare it seriously. Dont forget to
practice hard.

3)Now start with POWER ELECTRONICS,POWER SYSTEMS OR ELECTRICAL MACHINES whatever you
like most. You should follow P.S.BIMBHRA for power electronics and machines numerical practice and KOTHARI
for power systems.

4)Now continue with EMT MEASUREMENT OR ANALOG.As per my suggestion, measurement is quite easy so
complete it first. For analog you should be more focused on OP-AMP other topics have least priority to be asked.Solve
all the previous year questions many times.

5) Join at least 1-2 test series in august or Sept. Do not skip any topic from any of the subject.

Then do revise and test regularly. This will helps you a lot.

BEST OF LUCK

THANX.

All you need to do is just follow some simple path.

1) Get the syllabus of your trade and collect the previous year pattern of your paper and from there identify the
subjects which comprises of maximum marks in paper every year.

2) Start with tge subject that comprises ofMAXIMUMmarks to the subject withLEASTmarks.

Usually it has been noticed that in every branch there are 4-5 subjects which comprises of 45-50 marks totally. So you
should target those subjects firstly and once you are done with these subjects switch on toAPTITUTE AND ENGG.
MATHEMATICS .

3) Revise every subject atleast once in a week because if you dont revise the subjects frequently you would soon forget
the subjects.

4)Make a separate notebook for formulas and just revise through that because the most important part of gate are
formulas. Some questions are easiky solvable but students forget the formula because of which they those marks even
in easiest question.

5) Join a good test series.. May be ACE ACADEMY OR MADE EASY TEST SERIES( Ace test series is more
relevant to gate pattern but actual competition is reflected in MADE EASY tests)

6) In last 30 days just solve previous year question papers, give tests daily(FULL syllabus) and revise formulas.

Hope that helps :)

Before making a strategy, forget all the incidents happened with you (in academics) or how much you have studied
during your B.Tech because nobody studies.

Its best to start preparation from middle of the 2nd year but generally people start from 3rd year. So If you have started
from 3rd year, no need to worry.

Part 1: Reasoning and Aptitude:

You need to know some mathematics upto class 10th, that every engineer should know and you can skip and you can
skip English part if it is very weird for you because it is not productive. An average student can score from 8 to 12
marks in aptitude part easily, no need to do so much practice of that part.

Part 2: Technical Part

2.1 Mathematics: Although given syllabus of mathematics is very large in size, but many topics from them are never
asked. If you are an average student you should cover Matrix, Differential Equations, Laplace Transform. These
three topics are most important but keep in mind that you must know all the formulas from other topics too. If you are
a good student you can do all topics.

2.2 Control Systems: Control Systems weighs most in GATE paper. You need to focus on Control systems most if
you want to clear it.

2.3 Digital Electronics: Easy approach and high scoring, practice makes a man perfect!!!

2.4 Machines: You need to learn a lot of theory in it. Try to keep much on it only and only if your theory part is strong.

2.5 Signal and Systems: Same as digital, its too scoring!!

2.6 Others: Study accordingly!!

For an average student, You need not to attempt all the questions. Attempt selected questions with higher
accuracy and you will be get selected. God Bless!!
