PHILOPTOCHOS UPDATE Parish Assembly May 2017

Christ is Risen!

2017 has been a wonderfully blessed time for Philoptochos.

We started off with our annual collection for St. Basil's Academy in January, and because of the
generous donations of our parish, we sent in one of the largest collections ever to support this
ministry that cares for children who are temporarily displaced.

The Cheesefare Luncheon was hosted by Philoptochos in February and we raised over $1,000 for Holy
Cross Hellenic College.Philoptochos was blessed to have a generous donor to cover the expenses for
this dinner.

Every February, Philoptochos participates in a activity with the families staying at the Ronald
McDonald house. This includes doing a child friendly craft and visiting with both the children and
their families.

Palm Sunday was another successful fundraiser for Philoptochos, all of the collections goes directly
towards our budget for the ministries we support. It was a record breaking year for us and we thank
God first and foremost, however we could not do this our wonderful Church family and the support
of Father Mark.

We will have one more fundraiser this May, our annual Walk-a-thon on Saturday, May 20th leaving
from the Church early morning.

Last but not least, our small Philoptochos was able to fulfill our commitments to National for the St.
Nicholas Shrine. We had a sponsor from another community offer to complete our commitment if we
could give another $500.00. The women of our Philoptochos were generous and gave their own
money, so as not to deplete our small budget.

With 2017-2018 comes new leadership for Philoptochos. This is my last term as President and I leave
with the knowledge that Philoptochos will continue, as always because each and every one of the
members love Christ and will continue the mission of Philoptochos: To serve those in need.

Youth Report Update Parish Assembly May 2017

CHRIST IS RISEN!

We are almost at the end of our 2016- 2017 Sunday School year. It is with gratitude and great respect
for our benefactors that provided us not only with exquisite new classroom and facilities but also
state of the art media equipment and technology.

This school year we were able to provide our students with optimal age and grade groupings to take
best advantage of our new space. We thank all our devoted Sunday School program teachers for their
continued support and dedication.

Our youth have enjoyed monthly JOY and GOYA Faith Nights under the guidance of Father Mark. The
faith nights are great opportunities for our youth to explore and experience in depth various topics of
our Orthodox faith along with great fellowship.

Once again this year our youth participated in Holy Anargyroi St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival
that provides our children the opportunity to speak about their faith. The Oratorical Festival Program
had once again participation in all three divisions (elementary, junior and senior). We thank our
students for their participation and special thanks to Erline Holman for organizing and coordinating
the program and to our Sunday School teachers for hosting the event for our Parish.

Our GOYAns continue to look for opportunities to spend time in fellowship and service. They again
enjoyed their traditional Lenten night this Spring, followed by a regional opportunity to attend a
retreat by the director of Be the Bee, a GOARCH youth ministry.

It is with mixed emotions that we are saying Goodbye! to Erline: a heartfelt Thank You! from all of
us for all her love and dedication to our Parish family and immense love for our children! We will miss
you Erline!

Our Church School graduation is on Sunday, May 21st immediately following the Divine Liturgy. We
invite all our Parish families to join us for our annual end of Church School picnic after the graduation
ceremony.

Thanks to all our wonderfully dedicated Sunday School teacher volunteers, and hope to inspire other
members of our Parish family to consider joining us in this wonderful ministry that has as goal to
encourage full participation of our youth in the life of the Church and experience our Orthodox faith
through worship, witness, service, and fellowship.

With love,

Your Youth Ministry team Loredana Jerghiuta, Halina Woroncow and Jason Meier

time.

Volunteers Needed!
We would first like to make a call-out to anyone who might like to help us with our 2017 initiatives!
We have a small number of people doing multiple things so your volunteer support would be greatly
appreciated!

St PHILOTHEI UPDATE - Parish Assembly May 2017

The St Philothei Ministry provides monthly weekend meals to the Rochester Womens Shelter.

This month, May 2017, the St. Philothei Ministry is in transition with the departure of three key
leaders and volunteers: Trevor Hamlen, Erline Holman and Brad Holman. The St Philothei Ministry
thanks these hard working individuals for their dedication of service. The current volunteers are able
to continue the Ministry and in the upcoming months there will be new leadership and an
informative coffee hour to raise funds, awareness and support to St Philothei. In addition to the
meals; the Womens Shelter is in need of bath and hand towels, twin bedding sets, and size 4 and 5
diapers. God willing, the Ministry will be able to further expand our help to the Womens Shelter and
the Rochester community. The Ministry continues to report to Father Mark and the Parish Council
once a month. Continued prayers and support are much appreciated. Thank you.

BUILDING COMMITTEE UPDATE Parish Assembly May 2017

May 1, 2017 Respectfully Submitted by Tim Kelly, Chair of Building Committee

Church $2,820,212.10
Jim AV Donation $210,000.00
Jim Overage Donation $150,000.00
Auction Income & Philoxenia
Driveway $10,452.38
Total Money Church has for
Project $3,190,664.48
Expense Summary
As of Payment Application 18 Dated 1/31/2017
Initial Contract $2,106,828.62
Changes $348,649.92
Total $2,455,478.54
Kraus Anderson $313,292.00
HGA $187,770.00
Church Spend $207,160.15
Recent Changes $21,122.56
Total Expense $3,184,823.25
Difference $5,841.23

The above Recent Changes includes the Kids Area ($1,650); Cleaning of the Ice Maker ($1,400);
Kitchen Wall Protection FRP (est. $5,000); 50/50 split of the Dentist Fence ($2,212.50); Exterior LED
Lighting ($3,170); and a few other changes that have come along during the finishing of the project.
Jacob Peterson and Tim Kelly will assess any differences between the church treasurer records and
the above to make sure we are on the same page.
A note for discussion: Should the Building Committee be dissolved after this project completion until
the next project of significance comes to being? A Long Term Planning Committee formed? A Facility
Maintenance committee could be a team of parishioners including Johnny, Aaron, Gusts and myself.
We have received all Operations and Maintenance Manuals and As Built Drawings for the project
(memory stick) and have received all training per the contract documents. The documents for the
project are all located in the storeroom.
Some remaining items of interest:
1. Approximately 10 of property on the north side of the fence near the parking lot is HAGOCs.
We need to address the potential of adjusting the fence line to reclaim that property that is
presently a peace garden for our northern neighbors. This house has been mentioned as a
target for purchase by the Philoxenia committee. No action on this at this time is
recommended strategy.
2. The exit door out of the north side of the kitchen is not an exit door. We need to remove
the EXIT sign. To be done internally by maintenance volunteers.
3. There is a desire for a concrete slab near the kitchen east door from the road to the sidewalk
for deliveries. Acquiring an estimate for installation.
4. There is a desire for a hard surface near the north storage room doors where the Good Friday
procession goes up an incline to the sidewalk instead of the grass that is there now.
5. Potential discrepancies between Church financials and TK records of project need to be
cleared up between Jacob & Tim.

PARISH COUNCIL UPDATE Parish Assembly May 2017

Christ is Risen!

The Parish Council welcomed a new member this year, Jason Meier, and new leadership in Vice
President, Amy Franqueira, and President, Halina Woroncow. We all share a singular goal of "utilizing
our God-given time, talents, and treasure for the spiritual well-being and growth of our parish" under
the guidance of Father Mark.

The major new project on our meeting table is guiding our parish through an expansion of the
Philoxenia House Ministry, as approved by the General Assembly in March. To this end, we have
engaged a professional realtor who has worked with our church in the past, Kelly Domaille. In
addition, we are clarifying policies and procedures with respect to the Philoxenia House Ministry in
order to prioritize transparency, efficiency, and fiscal accountability. We will keep you abreast of
developments.

We are also working to create a clear outline of expectations and responsibilities in the use of our
beautiful kitchen and hall facilities. Our resources must be used and maintained appropriately, and
this carries a cost. Conditions for use will be finalized and communicated as soon as possible.

We hope to develop and welcome new ministries as endorsed at our Fall 2017 Assembly. If any of you
has an idea you would like to explore, develop, lead, please talk to Fr Mark or a member of the Parish
Council. We should make it a true goal to give something back to the community from the amazing
gift with which we have been blessed.

The Council welcomes all questions, concerns, ideas, and solutions. We are a family and learn from
one another. Please engage actively in our Parish Assemblies. We will also provide cards for last-
minute questions that come to mind to address before we adjourn. And an email or a chat during
coffee hour is always welcomed!

Happy Mother's Day, and a blessed Sunday to all!

In Christ,
Halina Woroncow
Parish Council President

2017 members: Amy Franqueira, Erline Holman, Robert Lytle, Ben Johnson, John Maragos, Jason
Meier, Jacob Petersen, Angie Rustad, Halina Woroncow
