PitchPad is the total scoring and match analysis solution for all forms and levels of cricket. Covering the PC,
Pocket PC and selected cell phone platforms our product range is unique;- PitchPad Field is the ultimate in
flexible, all weather, handheld scoring tools, PitchPad MatchView brings matches to life by complementing
traditional scorecards with individual wagon wheels, scoring zones, worm graphs, Manhattan graphs and
partnership graphs whilst PitchPad Pavilion combines all the scoring and analysis functionality of both Field
and MatchView with multi-match and season analyses. All PitchPad products allow export of match summaries
to Cricket Statz.
PitchPad Field and Pavilion create and communicate comprehensive records of cricket matches for everyone.
Matches of all types (you set the rules) are scored with minimum effort and maximum accuracy. PitchPad can
be used on its own or to complement traditional scoring methods. The increased data capture can be used for
enhanced match analysis by teachers, coaches, scorers, umpires and players alike but its also great for
generating real enthusiasm in young players and a desire within them to improve performance.
PitchPad makes scoring easy. The minimum number of clicks/taps is used to record each match event. Data
capture is maximised and effort is minimised. The scorer is prompted throughout the match in accordance with
the natural flow of the game and the rules that youve set. Scorers dont always have players names or batting
orders before the start of a match and we recognise this. With PitchPad, you can use temporary names and can
add or change almost all inputs at any stage of the match. Importantly, you dont have to know the match rules
to score a game. If you can click/tap buttons, then you can score with PitchPad.
PitchPads Undo and Edit buttons allow errors to be corrected as quickly and as easily as if you were using a
pencil.
PitchPad is also packed with statistics, graphics and analyses to allow players, teachers, coaches and managers
to review the progress of any match in real time through:
Worm, Manhattan and partnership graphs;

Wagon wheels, scoring zones and ball by ball pitching length;
Required run rates;
Over by over analysis;
Current score cards; and
Traditional scoreboard.
All data created with PitchPad scoring products are entirely compatible with all other editions of the PitchPad
product suite. Conventional matches can be also be exported to the market leading cricket statistics software,
Cricket Statz (available from www.cricketstatz.com). Any match scored with PitchPad Field can easily be
imported and analysed in PitchPad Pavilion (and vice versa). In both versions, you can tailor the match rules to
cater for indoor, youth, limited overs and Test cricket. If we havent yet catered for your rules then please let us
know at support@PitchPad.com. Well do our best to accommodate your suggestions in future releases.
PitchPad Pavilion is designed for Windows PCs running Microsoft .NET (included in the installation files
provided on our website) and provides comprehensive scoring, match and multi-match analyses together with
professional scorecards and graphics.
PitchPad Field is the ultimate scoring tool. Operating through the Windows Mobile platform, it combines
exceptional portability, excellent battery life and all-weather performance but loses none of the scoring
functionality of its Pavilion cousin. PitchPad Field can be used equally well in bright sunlight or pouring rain.
In sunny conditions, use the sunlight to illuminate the back screen and the image can be read clearly;
In the rain, simply put the device in a sealed plastic bag and use the stylus through the bag.
PitchPad MatchView is a slimmed down version of PitchPad Pavilion and is designed to breath life into
match scorecards and to develop real enthusiasm amongst young cricketers to understand and improve their
own performance. It provides a dynamic medium to analyse matches and individual performances through
scorecards, wagon wheels, scoring zones, ball maps, partnership graphs, worm graphs, Manhattan graphs and
over-by-over analysis.
PitchPad products are ideal for coaches, managers, teachers, players and all interested parties who can:
Review wagon wheels and scoring zones for batsmen, bowlers and captains (on current and archived
matches) to identify coaching requirements;
Review the performance of any bowler against any batsman (and vice versa);
Review the line and length of deliveries bowled by each bowler or faced by each batsman;
Analyse the effectiveness of fielding positions in containing runs or taking catches;
Analyse team and individual performances during the season or over longer timeframes;
All PitchPad products are designed to be straightforward, stable and versatile. We hope you enjoy using them.

2.0 INSTALLING PitchPad Pavilion
To install PitchPad Pavilion, download the installation file (PitchPadPavilion.exe) from our website at
www.PitchPad.com to any folder you specify on the target PC. Once you have downloaded the file, send us a
blank email at pitchpad1@aweber.com and follow the instructions provided. Once youve obtained the
password, locate the downloaded file PitchPadPavilion.exe (through Windows Explorer) and double click on
the file. The first dialog box will appear as follows:
Click OK.
To install PitchPad, click Setup. The next dialogue box will request your password (above right). Type this in
and press OK. This will then display the following dialogue boxes in sequence.
If you already have .NET installed, click No. To install Microsofts .NET Framework (required for PitchPad) click
Yes. Once .NET Framework has been installed (which may take some time) the Setup wizard will proceed to
install PitchPad as follows:
Click Next >. This will then load the license agreement as above:
To install the software, read the agreement and if you accept the terms, click I Agree followed by Next >. The
following screen will then appear. Click Next >.

And Next > again at the prompt shown above right.
When the installation is complete (above), click Close after which the following icon will appear on your
Windows desktop and the start | All Programs menu. Click either of these icons to launch PitchPad. On the
first occasion PitchPad will load in trial status. To upgrade to the fully licensed version you'll need to purchase
an activation code from our website. To do this, click the Upgrade button at the bottom of the main scoring
page and follow the on-screen instructions.
PitchPad is launched by either (i) double clicking the desktop icon or (ii) selecting PitchPad from the All
Programs ` menu off the Windows start button.
Each time PitchPad is loaded, it will re-open the current match at the exact point at which the match was left.
There is, therefore, no reason why you cant close and re-open PitchPad during a match. Each ball is written to
the match database immediately the relevant scoring button is clicked.

To remain in trial status simply click OK, No and OK in sequence. You can purchase a license at any time by
clicking the Upgrade button at the bottom of the above form and following the on-screen instructions.
This screen shows the summary match information on the left, the scoring buttons in the middle/right and the
match/over status in the middle/right at the bottom. To avoid distractions, PitchPad only displays information
that is relevant to the format and phase of the game you are scoring. Thus, in a Test match, the Remaining
Overs, Remaining Balls and Projected score is . . . sections are all removed. Similarly, additional information
is provided for Test matches or longer format games to show the scores of all completed or prior innings.
To set the type of organisation that your teams represent e.g. your Club, School, College, University, State,
County, Company, Corporation etc., click Settings on the main menu followed by Set Organisation Type.
Throughout this manual we represent menu selections in the following format:

You can then select your organisation type from the dropdown box. Alternatively, you can input one of your own
that better describes your organisation. When you have completed this selection or input, click OK. To abort,
click Cancel.
To edit, add or delete items of standing data, you should select the following commands (as appropriate):
This action will present one of the following screens (depending on which command was selected). To change
an item of standing data, click the row that it appears in. If you wish to overtype the item, simply start typing.
Alternatively, if you only wish to edit an item (rather than overwrite it), click the same row a second time at the
point in the text you wish to begin editing and then begin typing.

4.3 Player Database
You can set up full player details for both your teams and the teams you play against (if you know them). The
Known As field is the name that PitchPad will use to identify players on scorecards and forms when they
participate in any match. By recording players in this table you will be able to select your players from lists rather
than having to re-key them for each match.
Players that are input during a match and that were not already present in this database before the match
will be added to this table when the match is archived. However, only the players Known As and Club fields
will be populated. Additional information about the player can be added (subsequently) at any time.
The additional information stored in this table is, hopefully, self explanatory. The dropdown boxes used on this
form are populated from the standing data tables described above. However, you are not limited to the items in
the dropdown boxes. You can add new Leagues, Grades etc. by over typing the dropdown box. Please note
that, for each field, you should click once to select the field and a second time to begin editing it or
inputting data.
To delete a row, click the row and press the Delete key.
4.4 Fixtures
You can add the current seasons fixtures to the following table through the menu selection:

The information in this table can then be used to select a match (rather than input) during the match set up
process.
To add a new row (match) to this table click the * in the row header at the left hand side of the grid. If this is not
visible, use the scroll bar on the right of the grid to navigate to the last row.
Please note that, for each field, you should click once to select the field and a second time to begin
editing it or inputting data.
To delete a row, click the row and press the Delete key.
The match date should be the date the match starts on (if it lasts more than one day) and will be in the format
dd/mm/yyyy. The League can either be input or selected from the dropdown box embedded in the row.
Similarly, the Grade and Home/Away status may be input or selected from the dropdown box. The opposing
team (the Against field) and ground (the Ground field) should be input.
4.5.1 Fields
To create a new rule, use:

Rule Tag:
The first task on this form is to assign a meaningful and unique Rule Tag. This is the rule name that will
appear in the relevant dropdown list on the Match Details form. The Rule Tag must not duplicate an existing rule
tag.
Number of Players
This field holds the number of players that will actually bat (it should not include substitutes etc.).
Balls in Over
This field holds the number of legal deliveries that will comprise each over.
Starting Total
In some forms of the game, each team begins each innings with a starting total e.g. 100 or 200 runs before the
first ball of the relevant innings is bowled. If this rule applies to your match, you should set this field the relevant
starting total. If you leave this field blank the standard rules will apply and each innings will start from zero.
Batsmen Retire at
Where the rules require batsmen to retire after they have scored a specific number of runs, that run total should
be specified in this field e.g. if this field was set to 25, PitchPad would prompt the scorer to confirm that the
batsman was retiring when the batsman had scored 25 runs (or greater). PitchPad would then (assuming that
the scorer confirmed the batsmans retirement) prompt the scorer to select the incoming batsman.
Batting in Pairs
This option should be set to true (by checking the check box) if the batsmen are required to arrive at and leave
the crease as a pair. This will normally be applicable in rules where each pair of batsmen will bat for a
prescribed number of overs and will then be replaced by a new pair (regardless of how many times either

batsman within a pair may lose their wicket). This form of the game is normally associated with the batsmen
remaining at the crease after a wicket has been lost.
Wide Penalty
This field sets the standard penalty to be conceded by the bowler to the batting sides extras for each wide
delivery. Normally, this value will be 1. However, in several forms of the game it may be 2 or higher.
No Ball Penalty
This field sets the standard penalty to be conceded by the bowler to the batting sides extras for each no ball.
Normally, this value will be 1. However, in several forms of the game it may be 2 or higher.
Standard Penalty
This field sets the number of penalty runs to be conceded to the other side resulting from such events as the ball
striking a fielders helmet, other obstructions in the outfield or infringements of the rules. Normally, this field
would be set to 5 runs.
Rule Description
This is a free format field that describes the rule for future use.
Clear Form:
This button will erases/resets the values in each field on the form. It will not delete the rule unless you
subsequently re-save the rule.
Delete Rule:
This button deletes the selected rule from the master table. You should only click this button where you will
never need the rule again. Once deleted a rule will not be available for future selection.

This button saves the current rule (the one on the form) to the master rules table. To be available for future
matches a rule must be saved to the master table. Normally, you should use this button whenever you have
modified or created a rule. To avoid overwriting an existing rule you will need to change the Rule Tag. This
button will also write the updated rule to the current rule table.
You should then use the Browse rules buttons to navigate to the rule you wish to modify. Once you have
completed the desired changes you can either save this as a new rule or simply update the previous one. To
save the modified rule as a new rule, change the Rule Tag to a new and unique name and click the UPDATE
MASTER RULE button. To update the existing rule, simply click the UPDATE MASTER RULE button and click
Yes when you see the following dialogue box:

4.7 Set Scoring Convention
Scores may be displayed in Australian or English format. To display scores using Australian format follow the
menu selection:
If the directory/folder already exists, navigate to it using this form. When you have selected the directory/folder,
click OK. If the directory does not yet exist, navigate to the directory you wish the new directory to a sub-
directory of. When have done this, click Make New Folder which will create a new directory/folder called New
Folder (as below):
Over type this directory name with your chosen name and click OK. PitchPad will use the directory you set here
as the default directory to be used for any PitchPad files you create or wish to retrieve.
Once the initial setup is complete, matches are scored using the panel of buttons on the main sheet:

To begin a match, click Set Up New Match. This will present a number of screens in sequence. The first of
these will be the match details screen (below):
If you have populated the fixture list, you can populate the upper half of this form by clicking the arrow buttons
next to Select From Fixture List. To reset the form (erase the field values), click Clear.
Team 1: The Team 1 field sets the name of club, school, college, state, county etc. that your
team represents. This will be pre-populated with the name you supplied for your Club in
the initial setup. You can, however, change this to another name by simply typing it in
here.
Team 2: This is name of the club, school, college, state, county etc. that you are playing.
League: This is the league (if applicable) in which the match is being played. This field cannot
be blank. If there is no applicable league simply write Friendly, School Matches or
something similar.
Grade: This is the term we use to describe the grade or level of the team, e.g. First XI, Under
9s, Sunday XI, Colts A etc.

Start Date: This is date on which the match starts (for most matches this will also be the date that
the match ends). The date is input by selecting from the panel (below) which will
appear when the date field is clicked. To move forward a month click the arrow on the
top right and, similarly to move back a month click the arrow on the top left. When you
have selected the correct month, simply click on the match date.
Home Team: The home team must be selected from the dropdown box.
Played At: Please state the ground at which the match is being played.
Match Rules: Please select the match rule to be applied to this match from the dropdown list. If the
rule has not yet been setup then it can be setup later.
Indoors?: If the match is being played indoors then the check box should be checked. To toggle
the check box, please click the box.
Toss Won By: Please select the team that won the toss.
The names of the scorers and umpires should be input in the boxes provided. You can record the weather
conditions in the last dropdown box. The weather list is populated from the standing data set up above.
However, this field is also free format.
NB: This form can be re-loaded later (if required) through the menu selection:

If you have set up players in section 4.3 you will be presented with a list as follows:

Players can be selected or deselected by any one of the following methods:
1. Highlight the players name, hold the right hand mouse button down and drag the players name into the
other box.
2. Double click on a players name (in either box).
3. Highlight the players name and click the relevant arrow button in the middle of the form.
Please note that you cannot add more players at this stage. However, you will be able to input additional
players on the immediately following screen (and at any time during the match). Players do not have to be
input, selected or named before you can start a match. If you do not know the names of players you can simply
use the temporary names automatically assigned by PitchPad or your own descriptive place holders. Either of
these temporary solutions can be overwritten when you know the players names.
When you have selected the players for the relevant team or there are no players to select, click the Next
button.
NB: This form can be re-loaded later (if required) through the menu selection:
or through the button labelled Input Teams on the Match Set Up page of the main form.
If no players were selected, you will be prompted with the following dialogue box:
To retain the players from the last match click No. To reset all players click Yes. On clicking Yes all player
names for that team will be reset to the PitchPad default temporary names of Player X for Team 1 and Opponent
X for Team 2.

method you use to change the batting order. The batting order is used by PitchPad to determine the default
prompt for the incoming player(s) at the fall of a wicket or when batsmen retire. However, it is also used to
determine the order in which players are presented for the bowling line up. In youth matches or games where all
players bowl, you could set the player orders to reflect the batting line up for the batting side and the bowling
order for the fielding side.
You can also set the captain and wicketkeeper on this form by selecting their names from the relevant dropdown
lists at the bottom of the form.
By default, PitchPad assigns the temporary names Player X to players from Team 1 and Opponent X to players
from Team 2 (where X represents a number from 1 to 15). When one of these names is used in a match, the
pre-fix Temp_ is added to indicate that the name has effectively been ascribed to a player.
Click OK to continue. If you did not manage to set up your match rule previously you will need to set it now (see
section 4.5).
Once the Match Setup is complete you can begin scoring at anytime by clicking the Start Match button.
If you have received the team names for either team in an electronic format, you can copy and paste these into
PitchPad, provided the list is one of the following formats:
Player A
Player B
Player C etc. (i.e. separate lines)
To copy the player list into PitchPad you should activate the source document, highlight the range containing the
player names and press [Ctrl] + C (or any other Windows copy shortcut that you normally use).
You should then re-activate PitchPad, and select the Match Set Up page on the main form. Click the button
labelled Paste Names under either the column headed Our Team or the column headed Opposing Team
(depending on which team the players belong to). This will display the following form (shown on left):

Delete Name
To paste the players names, right click the mouse. This will display the context menu (shown above right in
pale yellow). Click Paste Name. The names will then be pasted into the list box. If you wish to delete any of
these names before clicking OK then you should highlight the name you want to delete, right click the mouse
and select Delete Name from the pale yellow menu (as shown above). When you are happy with the names on
that appear on this form, click OK. This will take you to the batting order form shown earlier in section 5.3.
Please note, you cannot type or input names into the above form. You can only paste them from a
source document.
PitchPad allows the scorer to customise the way they score through the Preferences tab. To set preferences,
click this tab which will display the following screen:

Check this box to be prompted to record the position of the ball. You will then need to set the Pitch Orientation,
Starting End and whether to Record dot balls through the settings on the right. If Left Right is selected the
pitch orientation that will appear after each scoring stroke will be as it is shown on the left below. Conversely, if
Top Bottom is selected the pitch orientation will appear as it is on the right (NB: you will not see these
screens at this time)).
To record the position of dot balls, check the box labelled Record position of dot balls.
Indoor game?
Check if game is played indoors.
Bowl in pairs?
Check if bowlers bowl in pairs (rather than each player in sequence).
Australian format?
Check to display scores in Australian format.
When the Start Match button is pressed you will be presented with the following dialogue box:
This warning is simply to prevent you accidentally restarting a match before you have saved or archived it. If you
intend to start a new match then you should click Yes to continue. Otherwise, click No.

If you wish to record the position of the ball on scoring strokes (for wagon wheel charts and scoring zones) click
Yes, otherwise click No. If you clicked Yes you will then be presented with the following form:
If Left Right is selected the pitch orientation that will appear after each scoring stroke will be as it is shown on
the left below. Conversely, if Top Bottom is selected the pitch orientation will appear as it is on the right (NB:
you will not see these screens at this time).
To record the position of dot balls, check the box labelled Record position of dot balls.
You should select the orientation that mostly closely relates to your position relative to the cricket field. This
orientation is solely designed to make the scorers job easier and does not alter the presentation of the final
wagon wheels. When the final wagon wheels and scoring zones are calculated, all ball positions are remapped
and all shots are shown as if the batsman had faced all deliveries from the left hand side of the wicket on a
horizontal orientation (i.e. as shown above left).

7.2 Selecting Initial Batsmen
Once the ball position variables have been set (or you clicked No in section 7.1 above), you will be prompted for
the batsmens names:
If you have already selected your team in section 5.2 above, the names that appear in this dialogue box
will be those of the first two players in your batting order.
If you have selected your team but the batting order was not set or has changed, you can simply select
the correct batsmen from the above dropdown boxes.
If you have not already selected your team, you can either:
o Overwrite the temporary names with the correct names
o Overwrite the temporary names with descriptive names that will allow you to identify each
batsman until you are told their actual names (e.g. Boy with cap or Wearing jumper), or
o Retain the temporary names for the time being (please note that any temporary names you use
will become pre-fixed with Temp_ such that Opponent 1 would become Temp_Opponent 1).
This is to avoid one temporary name accidentally representing two or more players.
Remember that you can change a players name at any time during the match by simply overwriting the players
name in the batting line up. You can access this at any time through:

If you have already input the fielding side in section 5.2 above, the name that will be prompted for the
first over of the innings will be the first player in the fielding sides batting order. For the second over, it
will be the second player in the batting order. You can, of course, select any player from the dropdown
list. Once the first two overs have been completed, PitchPad will prompt for the next bowler on the
assumption that the selected bowlers alternate e.g. in the above example, alternating between the first
and second players in the batting order.
If you have input the fielding side but the batting order was not set or has changed, you can simply
select the correct bowler from the above dropdown box.
If you have not already input the fielding side, you can either:
o Overwrite a temporary name with the correct name
o Overwrite a temporary name with a descriptive name that will allow you to identify the bowler

Please note that the bowlers name cannot be blank. If you do not know the bowlers name you will need to use
a temporary name for the time being. These temporary names simply act as place holders in the PitchPad
database. They can either be a default name (like Player 1) or a descriptive name that you assign (like Blue
Hair). Any player name you set now can be updated later. If you havent input the fielding side then you can
simply type in a new name at any time.
The bowler form will then be followed by a similar form for the wicketkeeper (see below).
Because, in some forms of the game, the wicketkeeper can change several times, PitchPad records the
wicketkeeper for each ball bowled. Thus, if you do not name the wicketkeeper for a particular ball or over you
can still do so by editing the relevant balls later (see section 8.9). However, it is virtually always preferable to
use a temporary name rather than no name.
Once the Batsmen, Bowler and Wicketkeeper have been selected you should check that the bowling end is set
correctly on the bottom of the main form. This is discussed below:

7.5 Setting the Bowling End
If the bowler is batting on the right and the bowler is bowling from the left then the Bowling from variable on the
main form should be set to End 2 (or the name of that bowling end set in the Set Match Details form).
To change the Bowling from value, simply click the Preferences tab and click the appropriate Starting End.
Left and Top correspond to End 1 and Right and Bottom correspond to End 2. This will set the current end to
the correct value it will not have retrospective effect (i.e. it will not affect prior overs).
Scoring a match is as simple as clicking the buttons to reflect the activity in the field. We have tried (and
hopefully succeeded) to cover virtually every conventional scoring event within the game of cricket.
Runs, byes and leg byes are scored by simply clicking the appropriate button on the main screen.
If you set Record Ball Position to true when you set the match up, each scoring stroke will be followed by the
ball position prompt/screen. If you score a four or a six, PitchPad will first provide the following prompt:
If the four or six is a boundary (rather than an all run 4 or 6), click Yes. Otherwise, if the runs were all run, click
No.

To record the position of the ball, you should click the position on the field (or over the boundary) where the ball
stopped. If you click in the wrong place, you should simply click again in the correct place (which will replace the
original position with the new one). When you are happy with the ball position, click OK. PitchPad records the
last position that you clicked.
Please note that you can only record the ball position by clicking within the form above the dark grey panel at the
bottom

8.2 Wides and No Balls
Depending on the match rules you have set, a wide or no ball may give rise to an extra ball in the over. Where
this is the case, PitchPad will automatically take the extra ball into account when calculating the remaining balls
in the over.
Wides and No Balls will be scored at the value of the penalty set in your match rules. Where additional runs are
scored off a wide you should click Wides + Runs which will load the following screen:
You should input the additional runs scored (over and above the standard penalty) for the wide. For example if
the batsmen ran 2 runs off a wide ball, you would input 2 in the above field. If the standard wide penalty was 1,
then 3 wides would be added to the total.
Runs scored off no-balls are similarly scored by clicking the button labelled No Ball + Runs.
If the additional runs are scored as extras (e.g. byes or leg byes), then you should click the Extras option on the
form. If the additional runs are scored as runs, you should click the Runs option. Runs scored off a no ball will
be credited to the batsman. Conversely, no ball extras will not be credited to the batsman.
8.3 Wickets
When a wicket falls, you will need to click the appropriate button on the main form. There are two main
scenarios that PitchPad caters for. The first is conventional cricket where, when a batsman is out, they leave the
field. The second is where the batsman is granted an unlimited number of lives (but is forced to retire when
certain conditions are met e.g. number of overs faced, runs scored etc.) These are dealt with separately below:
8.3.2 Stumpings
Stumpings may occur off either a legal delivery or a wide ball.

Stumpings are credited to the both the bowler and wicketkeeper (where the wicketkeeper has been named).
8.3.3 Catches
To record a catch, click the button labelled Caught. You will then be prompted for the catchers name and
asked whether the batsmen have crossed:
If you do not know the catchers name at this time, you can leave the field blank and click OK i.e. you do not
have to record the catchers name. However, if you subsequently discover the catchers name and wish to
record it, you can edit the relevant ball later (see section 8.9.2). If the batsmen have crossed during the catch
then you should check the Crossed? box. This will swap the batsmen over such that (provided it is not the last
ball of an over) the incoming batsmen will be at the non-strikers end.
If you forget to do this then you can easily correct the position by clicking on the double-headed arrow next to the
left of the batsmens names on the main form.
If you set Record Ball Position to true during match set up, you will then be prompted to record the position on
the field where the catch was taken.
PitchPad will then prompt you for the information shown below e.g. the name of the batsman that was run out,
the name of the fielder that ran the batsman out, the number of runs completed before the run out, how the runs
were scored (runs, byes, leg byes or wides) and whether the batsmen crossed on any uncompleted run.
If you do not know the name of the fielder that ran the batsman out, you can leave the field blank. If you
subsequently discover the fielders name and wish to record it later, you can do so by editing the relevant ball
later (see section 8.9.2). If the batsmen have crossed during an uncompleted run, then you should check the
Did batsmen cross on uncompleted run? box. This will swap the batsmen over such that (provided it is not
the last ball of an over) the incoming batsmen will be at the non-strikers end.

From the dropdown box, select the appropriate dismissal type and click OK. If you leave the box blank and click

8.5.1 Declaring an Innings
To declare an innings, simply click the button labelled Next Innings. You will then be presented with the
following screen:
If you clicked the button deliberately, click Yes. Otherwise click No. You will then be prompted with the
question:
If you wish to start the next innings immediately, click Yes. If you wish to start the next innings in a while, click
No.
In longer formats of the game where each team bats for two innings each, you may see the following additional
prompts depending on the stage of the match:
If you click Yes the current innings will end. If any innings remain to be batted the same prompts will presented
as they were for the first innings.
If the conclusion of the innings also concludes the match then the following additional prompts (or similar will
appear):

8.6 Revised Overs
If the number of overs to be batted change during a match (e.g. due to bad light, rain etc.) the number of overs
to be batted can be revised through:

You should input the TOTAL number of overs for that innings, including those already bowled, rather than the
residual or remaining overs in the innings.

This total should be set to the number of runs that the side batting first is deemed to have scored under the
relevant calculation (e.g. Duckworth/Lewis).
If you click Yes the Match Result dialogue box will be presented as follows:

PitchPad will suggest what it believes the result of the match is. However, you can overwrite this text as you
wish.
8.9.1 Undo
To undo an entry at any time simply click the Undo button on the main form or press and hold the Ctrl key while
pressing the Z key. This will delete the last entry you made. You can repeat deletions right to the beginning of a
match.
This form will show the last over bowled. To navigate to the ball you wish to edit, you should use the left hand
window entitled Select over. From here, first select (by clicking on) the Innings and then the Over Number.
Once you have done this, the over will be shown in the right hand window. You should then select the ball you
wish to edit by clicking on the relevant row. The editable details of the ball will then be shown in the fields
below the main window. You can edit these fields by clicking on them and overtyping the existing values. When
you have corrected the desired field, click Replace to re-save the ball with the new values.
Once a dot ball has been inserted, it can be edited record the correct event (see section 8.9.2 above).

8.10 Ancillary Features
To record the position of the balls first bounce, simply click the wicket in the appropriate place. A red ball will
then appear in that location. If it is not correct, simply repeat the process until the ball appears in the correct
location and then click the event button for that delivery (e.g. 1 run, 1 bye etc.). Each ball will turn from red to
grey after the delivery has been scored. At the end of the over, the ball map is cleared in preparation for the
new over.

9.0 MATCH ANALYSIS
PitchPad allows the progress of the any match to be reviewed on-the-flye through a number of in-built analysis
tools. These include wagon wheels, scoring zones, the traditional scoreboard, scorecards, worm graphs,
Manhattan graphs and Partnership graphs. The simplest way of accessing most of these is to right click
anywhere on the main form which will present the following menu:

9.1 Wagon Wheels and Scoring Zones
In addition to the above menu, summary wagon wheel and scoring zone analyses can also be accessed through
the following menu selections.
Both forms operate in an identical manner. You can review the analysis at a team or individual player level by
changing any or all of the batting side, batsman, bowler and/or innings. Aside from its entertainment value,
these analyses can provide useful coaching insights to aid the development of both batsmen and bowlers.

These analyses allow wheels and zones to be viewed for particular bowling spells or overs in addition to any
batsman/ bowler combination for any innings.

This form is designed to allow an innings to analysed in depth, any batsman against any bowler, bowler
analyses by spells, overs etc. You can also step through the match by checking the Step box and then clicking
the Step button. This takes you graphically through the match ball by ball.

This screen allows each partnership to be analysed in detail showing runs scored off the bat by each player, the
total added by the partnership, the respective % contributions, balls faced, strike rates etc. To interpret a
number, simply hold the mouse over the number to display a pop-up explanatory note.
To change the pairing, simply select a new pairing from the Pairing drop down list. You can also change
innings and innings no. by the drop down boxes immediately below the Pairing drop down box. Similar analyses
can be accessed through the menu selection:

This analysis shows the runs by zone or the balls bowled by zone (simply select the option at the bottom left).
These can be displayed as values or percentages (again you will need to select the relevant option).
9.4 Scoreboard
The traditional scoreboard sits on the second tab of the main form (labelled Score Board). This can be
accessed at any time by simply clicking the tab or through the following menu selection:
View | Scoreboard
This tab is used to present the score in the layout that players are used to.
9.5 Scorecards
The on-screen scorecard presents the summary statistics of the selected innings (as shown below). You can
specify which innings you wish to review through the Innings and Innings No dropdown boxes at the top of the
form.

To print the scorecard, click the printer icon on the form. To export the scorecard to PDF or other file formats,
click the envelope icon. The PDF format can be e-mailed to all interested parties (in conjunction with the scoring
zone report in section 9.1 above). To export to html (for websites) click the button labelled Export to HTML.

9.7 Manhattan Graphs
Manhattan graphs plot the total runs scored off each over. The side batting first is plotted in red whilst the side
batting second is plotted in grey. This graph can be accessed through the menu selection:

10.0 ARCHIVING AND RETRIEVING PitchPad MATCHES
PitchPad allows matches to be saved in a variety of different formats. The Archiving process copies the match
records from the match database to a separate PitchPad Archive database. The Archive database is used for
computing overall player statistics, wagon wheels and scoring zones for the matches you specify for inclusion.
This form records the summary match information to assist its later retrieval. The only fields you can edit at this
stage are Result, Points for, Points (Opp), Notes and the Include in match statistics checkbox.
To include a match in subsequent match analyses, the Include in match statistics? box should be checked.
This is known as the Inclusion Tag and can be altered at any time as described in section 10.4.1.

This selection presents the following screen. To select a match, first select the league (window on left hand side
of form) and then select the match from the Select match from list below window, then click Open. NB: For a
match to be selected the whole row must be selected (i.e. click on the row header at the left hand side).
When selected, the key match data will be shown in the fields below the selection window. Before clicking
Open, you should check these fields to ensure you are retrieving the correct match.
To load the match, click Yes. If you click No, the selected match will not be loaded/retrieved and the following
form will appear:
An archived match can be deleted at any time through the menu selection:
To select a match to delete, first select the league (left hand side) and then select the match from the Select
match from list below window. When you are sure you have selected the correct match, click Delete. NB: For
a match to be selected the whole row must be selected (i.e. click on the row header at the left hand side).
When selected, the key match data will be shown in the fields below the selection window. Before clicking
Delete, you should check these fields to ensure you are deleting the correct match.
NB: Please note that in the Select match from list below window that there is column titled File Type. This
will be set to either Detail or Summary. A match scored through PitchPad is denoted as Detail.

10.4 Analysis of Archived Matches
The analysis of archived matches is located under the following menu items:
Only matches with a check in the column headed Inclu will be included in any analyses of archived matches. To
toggle the inclusion of a match, simply click the check box. If the box was checked it will show a feint grey check
mark after it is clicked. This feint grey check mark solely indicates that the box was previously checked but has
now been deselected. Matches with a feint grey or blank check mark will be excluded from the relevant match
analyses.

These formats variously hold entire matches, league rules or teams that can be exported by one user and sent
to, and imported by another (anywhere in the world). This allows central databases of matches to be compiled,
regardless of where they are actually scored.
Matches saved to .ezc format can be imported into PitchPad MatchView (see our website at PitchPad.com).

The default directory will be the Working Directory set in section 4.8. The default file name will be the current
date in the format YYYYMMDD. You can, of course, overtype a file name of your own. To save the match,
simply click Save. The following prompt will then appear:
The saved match can then be e-mailed to remote users who can import, review and/or archive the match in their
own database.

11.2.3 Exporting Rules
The same process used for exporting and importing matches (above) should be followed as for rules (as above).
To export a rule you should follow the menu selection:
This will export the currently selected rule (i.e. the one being used for the current match). Similarly, any imported
rule will be imported to the current rule (not the rule database). To save an imported rule to the rule database
12.0 HOUSEKEEPING
The databases that are used by PitchPad to store the current and archived matches require regular (but quick)
maintenance to ensure that they continue to operate efficiently. This is because the regular addition and
deletion of data within these databases cause them to grow in size. It is therefore recommended that you
regularly compact both the current and archive databases by the following menu selections:
When you do this, PitchPad creates a copy of the database before it is compacted. If for any reason (which is
extremely unlikely) your database should ever become corrupted, you can restore this copy (i.e. the version
created at the time the last compaction took place). To do this, select the menu option:
