AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS

Name: Yessenia Manqueros

Directions: Using the template below, describe how students could use a blog, wiki, or other website-
creation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that
reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that
students assume adult/professional roles; engage in higher-order thinking; and use technology
create/publish original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The
learning activities and products should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will
view/use/benefit from students work. Review your handouts on Engaged Learning, Authenticity, and LoTi.

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: S1E1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate weather
data to identify weather patterns.
c. Plan and carry out investigations on current weather conditions by observing, measuring with simple
weather instruments (thermometer, wind vane, rain gauge), and recording weather data (temperature,
precipitation, sky conditions, and weather events) in a periodic journal, on a calendar, and graphically.
(Students will not be recording the weather data on a calendar just on a periodic journal and on a
graph.)
Brief Description of Learning Experience: Students will be carrying out investigations throughout the
week about current weather conditions. They will be observing, measuring with simple weather instructions
(thermometer, wind vane, rain gauge), and recording weather data (temperature, precipitation, sky
conditions, and weather events) in a periodic journal and graphically. Then they will be uploading their
investigations onto the classroom blog under the correct tab. The teacher will help students during science
because that is when students will be allowed to work on their projects. At the end of the unit, when the
students are going to turn in their investigations the teacher will assist the students with scanning their files
with teachers phone and posting them on the blog in the correct way. Teacher will be posting audio
reminders on the classroom blog before the investigation week, during the investigation week and after the
investigation week and what will happen next. Students will be writing in their science journals every day,
keeping up with a weather diary and that is the product they will create. It will include graphs,
descriptions and some may even have pictures in them. At the end of the unit students will present their
findings to the class. The investigation will take a week to complete and it will take about two to three
weeks to publish students work. The audience is not only the students and teacher; it is also the parents
because they can view what their students have done on the classroom blog.

Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This project will be a LoTi 4

because students will be remembering, understanding, applying and analyzing the weather throughout the
time of a week and then they will present their knowledge to the class when they do presentations.

Importance of technology: Using a website-creation tool is critical to the project in order for the teacher
to grade and to tell students to fix certain things before they present. Yes, the project could be completed
without using technology but it just makes it easier and teacher wont lose papers. If students are capable of
making a power point presentation, they can present with that or with any other presentation tools.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: The classroom blog will be protected with a passcode that only
parents will know. The students will just be uploading their papers, no faces, names, or any other kind of
identity will be presented in the classroom blog. That means that the blog will be protected by the Cobbs
Internet Safety Policy.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I want to learn how younger students work their
minds around these kinds of projects, I want to see how far they can expand their little minds. I hope
students will learn to expand their minds in many ways and learn how to use different instruments to
measure different things.
