This website shows the many reasons why mentoring impacts peoples lives. Mentors can

gain a strong leadership and have the ability to be successful within the programs theyre mentoring.

A goal of mentoring is that somebody is able to see the potential in themselves and that theyre able

to succeed in whatever they put their mind to. The program has success in itself because it allows t

those to gain skills of communication and skills analysis and having a person explain the challenges

of balancing work and school, giving others an outlook on things. Eventually, the mentors can help

the mentees with their responsibilities and planning out their agendas. This source can help

enhance my project by showing the benefits of having a mentor.

In this article being demonstrated is teens not having a support system in their lives may push them

in the wrong direction. Having a caring adult and being able to confide in them may allow them to
open up and be pushed into the right direction and get their responsibilities together. This provides a

one on one relationship and having a positive outcome, being that its an improved connection within

the elders and youth group. Being that someone is there to teach you right from wrong has shown to

improve students attendance and make an effort to be at school. Mentoring allows older people to

reach out and get through to the younger audience, if a mentor was to be introduced to a

student/child and it doesnt turn out to be beneficial the child can feel a sense of abandonment.

Allowing a kid to have a support system gives them a feeling of hope and that someone believes in

what they want to do. This article shows how much of an effect having a support system and

guidance can do to a childs life.

This passage says that mentoring is beneficial and to show someone has somebody that cares for

them and to help them do better. This ensures having a positive effect on youths day to day

challenges. Allowing a mentoring relationship and meeting one another halfway. There is a chart

stating that 55% are more likely to go to college because they had a mentor to keep them on track.

This creates connections with people that are involved and and influences their lives at home.

Allowing someones isolation into a connection so nobody feels as if theyre alone in anything, or
having nobody to guide them through adulthood alone. Mentoring allows a role model figure in

others lives.

In this newsletter, Bruce and Bridgeland explores the ways that mentoring elementary students that do

not have a support system at home helps them in the long run. The authors backs up their information

with facts showing that a child in the United States is 2x more likely to have a parent in jail compared to a

child born 20 years ago. The 3 main focuses are (1) Mentoring Connection to Aspirations and Outcomes,

(2) The Value of Mentors, and (3) The Availability of Mentors. This newsletter is valuable to my topic

because it shows multiple sides and perspectives. What is useful about this source is that it has a lot of

data to show how mentoring kids is helpful. This source showed me that young children not having

someone to mentor them/ to push them to do better will not give them the positive motivation that they

need.

"Mentoring." Opportunity Nation. Leadership Council, 15 Apr. 2016. Web. 18 Nov. 2016.

https://opportunitynation.org/contact-us/

On this website Opportunity Nation is a national campaign that believes youth disconnection, and youth

unemployment are huge problems that need to be fixed in today's world. The author states that
5,527,000 youths are either not in school nor working. Only 6% of the youth that are born in low-income

families have a chance to climb to the top of the income ladder. 5.5 million are identified as disconnected

youth. This information is helping me with my research because if I start mentoring a child at a young

age it might not decrease those numbers dramatically but it will make a difference to that one child.
