It is advisable to share a draft with you Faculty advisor and Faculty Internship ‘Supervisor before finalizing. Specifically, this internship will focus on the functional student affairs area of Veteran's services. Objectives of the internship are covered below and will be achieved through specific project work, assisting as needed in various areas in the office. ‘This practicum experience serves as an opportunity to become familiar with the programs and positions within the Veterans Affairs Office at Palo Alto College (institution or organization) and in Student Affairs in general. ‘The On-Site Internship Supervisor will supervise the work of the student and be the point person ifthere are issues related to the student’s work performance or carrying out of responsibilities During the period of the internship, the site supervisor will provide both formative and final evaluations of the student intemn’s work, using prescribed forms to be provided by the program. ‘The On-Site Internship Supervisor will also periodically be contacted by the Internship Faculty Supervisor who will meet with all intems as part of an organized class. The site supervisor should fee! free to contact the Faculty Supervisor as needed. Assist management and staff with financial administrative matters. 2. Assist management and staff with fiscal matters related to the allocation of funding within the Department of Veterans Affairs at Palo Alto College. 3. Assist management and staff on travel reconciliation reports for the Department of Veterans Alairs at Palo Alto College. Objective 2: Advising Learning Outcomes 1, Provide students with certification requirement for Educational Programs within the Department of Veterans Affairs. 2. Assist in the verification of student enrollments, and certification of eligibility status. 3. Provide students with degree plans that meet their short-term as well as long-term educational and career objectives and assist them in developing their class schedules. 4. Provide academic and personal guidance/advising and referral services to students. 5. Provide assistance with the management of student records. Objective 3: Gain an understanding of different VA Educational Benefits and Hazelwood Exemption. Learning Outcomes 1. Learn about the US Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Educational Benefits. 2. Learn about the Federal and state regulations pertaining to educational benefits. 3. Lear about the enrollment processes for disabled veterans under the Vocational Rehabilitation Program. 4, Leam about the Hazlewood Exemption Act and the process for certification. Objective 4: Coordination and administration of special projects 1. "Assist management and staff in the coordination and delivery of special projects. This internship will take place at Palo Alto’s College Office of V 1400 W. Villaret Blvd, San Antonio, TX 78224, Proposed Work Schedule: ‘The intern and supervisor have agreed that the work schedule will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00a.m.-2:00p.m. Changes in the schedule will be made as needed.
