AccessSequences
Use
An accesssequence isasearchstrategythatthesystemusestofindvaliddataforaparticularcondition
type.Itdeterminesthesequenceinwhichthesystemsearchesfordata.Theaccesssequenceconsistsof
oneormoreaccesses.Thesequenceoftheaccessesestablisheswhichconditionrecordshavepriority
overothers.Theaccessestellthesystemwheretolookfirst,second,andsoon,untilitfindsavalid
conditionrecord.Youspecifyanaccesssequenceforeachconditiontypeforwhichyoucreatecondition
records.
Therearesomeconditiontypesforwhichyoudonotcreateconditionrecords(header
discountsthatyoucanonlyentermanually,forexample).Theseconditiontypesdonot
requireanaccesssequence.
Asalesdepartmentmayoffercustomersdifferentkindsofprices.Thedepartmentmay
create,forexample,thefollowingconditionrecordsinthesystem:
Abasicpriceforamaterial
Aspecialcustomerspecificpriceforthesamematerial
Apricelistformajorcustomers
Duringsalesorderprocessing,acustomermay,intheory,qualifyforallthreeprices.Theaccesssequence
enablesthesystemtoaccessthedatarecordsinaparticularsequenceuntilitfindsavalidprice.Inthis
example,thesalesdepartmentmaywanttousethemostfavourablepriceforacertaincustomer.Forthis
reason,itensuresthatthesystemsearchesforacustomerspecificprice.Thefollowingfigureshowshow
thesystemsearchesfortherelevantrecord.
AccessSequencesintheStandardR/3System
ThestandardR/3Systemcontainsaccesssequencesthatarepredefinedforeachofthestandardcondition
types.Thenamesoftheaccesssequencesoftencorrespondtotheconditiontypesforwhichtheywere
designed.Forexample,theaccesssequenceforamaterialdiscount(conditiontypeK004)isalsocalled
K004.
