As a non-profit organization, UNICEF has strived to efficiently protect children that are

at a disadvantage in our society by providing the necessary tools and applications in order to

pave a pathway for their future. UNICEFs commitment to children that are subjected to:

diseases, HIV/AIDS, lack of educational experience, poverty, violence, abuse and exploitation is

a clear representation of stressing the significance of Children's Rights and expressing this issue

all across the globe. The website showcases ethos, pathos and logos in order to portray a strong

need for assistance to improve children's lives.

In the About UNICEF tab ethos is clearly shown when they state the history of how

UNICEF originated. UNICEF became a permanent part of the United Nations System in 1953.

As a program developed by the United Nations, UNICEF is a well reputable Non-profit

organization. The organizations tie to the United Nations speaks for itself stating its respected

status as an organization. For 70 years UNICEF established their credibility through the work

they do to defend the rights of children across the globe. The decades of experience and

providing for children show the audience that UNICEF is a dependable organization. Through

UNICEFs statistics and information provided the audience can trust that UNICEF is being

effective in their mission to help children.

The whole website clearly expresses UNICEFs unbiased character further leading to a

strong ethical appeal. As a global organization, UNICEFs goal stated in the About UNICEF

tab under the 70th Anniversary section is UNICEF has been the defender of children around the

world, regardless of gender, religion, race or economic background.(United Nations

International Childrens Emergency Fund [UNICEF] , 2016). The website contains pictures of

children from all backgrounds in order to show that they do not discriminate or have a preference

on the children they help. These pictures also showcase the morals UNICEF has as an

organization. Their motto for every child, a fair chance, shows the character of UNICEF. A

strong sense of ethos is present on the website.

Pathos is the use of emotional appeal to persuade the listener. UNICEF uses a large

amount of pathos in their website, UNICEF uses a large sum of pathos in their website in

unicef.org. This is the main website that someone will visit in order to learn more about the

organization and what they contribute as an organization. When visiting the website, it is filled

with a lot of visual aid and pictures of the children that the organization has helped or is currently

helping. One biggest example of the usage of pathos in their website are the use of pictures of

children that are used as backgrounds in every tabs that are opened. Not only the usage of

children photos are used in the website, but as well as slogans. In the main page of the site, the

viewer is greeted with a quote that says for every child, hope. This attention grabber is placed

on the homepage so it can give a clue on what the organization does and a small idea of their

goal. It is saying that no matter what kind of hardships that children are suffering around the

globe, the organization, UNICEF, will always be there to give them hope. The use of smiling

children as their background also plays a role in the pathos aspect of persuasion. The

backgrounds of smiling children shows the impact that UNICEF has done for the children in

certain areas of the world. One such example shows an African-American child in a field of

flowers smiling and what seems to be holding our school papers and another example shows a

group of children in a classroom having the joy of learning as they group around a book.

Not only is The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund is a United

Nations programme (UNICEF) a non-profit organization that provides humanitarian and

development assistance to children and mothers in poverty countries, but their website is

organized and efficient regarding the distribution of informational facts and statistical data that

displays its value to the audience. The website overall at a first glance is starts off simplistic,

however as you continue to examine and search through their site for more background

information on certain areas it slowly starts to become more advanced and qualitative. Once you

access the home page as the reader (audience) you will be presented with a toolbar that allows

you to obtain the links to: What We Do, Research And Reports, Where We Work, Take Action

and Search in the same fashion the link thats has Explore UNICEF supplies you with

additional subsections which reveals the complexity (UNICEFs) page layout.

Comparatively to the layout toolbar has a specific section dedicated to their UNICEF

data which is then broken up into subsections of Statistics by Topic and Statistics by County

which in turn provides us with the necessary feedback we generally look for when you contribute

to a non-profit organization. For example: when you click on the Education Tab it takes you to

that specific topic and then it is divided into Current Status and Progress with an Overview

with a Recent Date correspondingly with the overview the person can instantly retrieve

downloaded versions of the data of: ratios, rates and school participation. To quickly add to the

data (Unicefs ) website offers further Resources and Notes pertaining to the specific topic you

have selected that is suitable for the audience to gather their opinions/thoughts on the

organization .

Furthermore the logo of (UNICEF) includes the following colors: blue and white which

also holds a particular image that they are trying to portray of: a child and mother that is in front

of a the world which is a clear representation of their compassionate website. The initial point of

the colors is that light blue represents the: sky, sea, intelligence, sincerity and heaven while white

represents: purity, cleanliness, innocence, light and angelic. Considering the presentation

UNICEF depicts itself as a benefactor these were the colors that taps into their ideologies and

self-image of their non-profit organization by choosing blue and white it gives the audience of

sense of the organizations underlying meaning of aid for children and mothers. Continually what

essential adds to their humanitarian contribution is a picture of the world and mother with a child

in the logo which assisted with the naturally benevolent website that correlates with their

aspirations and inspirations of healing.

As a non-profit organization, (UNICEF) clearly depicts itself with a definite well

established organization that continues to provide the help and wellness for children and mothers

in developing countries. The website displays an equal amount of Ethos, Pathos and Logos

regarding our rhetorical analysis of the programme and has essentially proven to be a reliable

organization. The audience can continue to pursue and participate in contributing into this

specific organization (UNICEF) as an impactful life changing philanthropic agency.
