REPORT ON RISKS

Executive summery Met opmerkingen [ob2]: Spelling!!

To be able to assess the risk awareness of class 2MAR02, a survey was made. The survey contains 15
questions. 10 respondents participated in the study. Met opmerkingen [ob3]: Avoid starting a sentence with

Introduction

This report will look at:

The difference between female and male risk takers;
What non risk-takers and risk-takers think;
How people feel in risky situations;
The chance of being more successful in life as a risk taker;
Risks the class already took in their life.

Findings

Data in general Met opmerkingen [ob5]: This has nothing to do with

1. 70% of the respondents would describe themselves as difference between male and female. (no logical structure)
risk-takers.

2. The attributes most used to describe themselves are;

spontaneous (100%), adventurous (50%) and calm
(40%). No one described themselves as predictable
(0%).
3. 70% of the respondents agree or strongly agree with Met opmerkingen [ob6]:
the phrase risk takers have a better chance of being
successful in life.
This result is not surprising, since 70% of the
respondents describe themselves as risk-takers.

4. 60% of the respondents have ever made a decision Met opmerkingen [ob7]:
without being certain of the outcome.

5. When asked, what was the biggest risk they ever took Met opmerkingen [ob8]: No comma
(influencing their education or future career, popular
Met opmerkingen [ob9]: ) missing
answers were not studying enough or important
decisions involving their education.

6. 70% of the respondents would want someone on their

team, who takes risks, instead of someone who plays it
safe.

7. A greater part of the respondents (60%) would follow

their heart to make a decision that involves a great
risk, only 40% would rather make a calculated, rational
decision.

8. The group of respondents is equally divided (50%-50%)

when asked if they would like a job that involves
making risky decisions.
9. Half of the respondents is motivated by risky
situations. 30% would be stressed and 10% would be Met opmerkingen [ob10]:
scared in such situations.
These results are, again, not surprising because 70% of
the respondents are risk takers. Its logical that they
would be motivated by risky situations.

10. Only 20% of the respondents would decline their

dream job because it involves risks.

11. 70% of the respondents choose not to defer risky Met opmerkingen [ob11]:
situations to other, but to handle it themselves.

12. Half of the respondents think they would be able to

handle de consequences if they would take a risk and
fail. The other half answered maybe. No one answered
that would be unable to handle it.

13. 70% of the respondents would avoid working on

projects that could fail.

14. 60% of the respondents are female, 40% are male

15. 60% of the respondents are 18 to 19 years old. 40% are
above 20 years old. No one is under 18 years old.

Observations
1. Generally, the male respondents will follow their /
hearts to make risky decisions. Female respondents
however, are more prone to make rational and
calculated decisions, when it involves risks.
2. Generally, non-risk-takers disagree with the saying /
Risk takers have a better chance of being successful in
life.
3. The non-risk-takers are more likely to be stressed or / Met opmerkingen [ob12]: No need to put the
scared in risky situations. Thats why they will most observation part (all of it) in a table: put it in a text!
likely avoid working on risky projects.
However, when it comes to their dream job, they
would not decline because it involves risks.

Conclusion
According to research the biggest part of the respondents, 70% are risk-takers. They are Met opmerkingen [ob13]: Our survey,
spontaneous and open-minded and dare to take risks personally and professionally. They
believe that risk-takers are more successful in life and they would like to have a risk-taker in
their team. Half of the respondents would like a job that involves risky decisions, but only a
small part of them would decline their dream job because it involves risky decisions. In risky
situations, the biggest part of the respondents would handle the consequences themselves.
The non-risk-takers avoid risky situations and they do not feel comfortable with situations
that involves risks because they get stressed out or scared.

Recommendations

It is highly recommended that you take risks, but watch out for implications.
Only half of the respondents are sure that they would be able to handle the
consequences of taken risks gone wrong. The other half is not sure. In our opinion it
is more easy to say that you can handle something, than actually handling it. Thats
why we recommend to teach students how to deal with failure.
The non-risk-takers should get the opportunity to follow a course about risks and
how handling risky situations without being stressed out or scared.

APPENDIX 1

Based on the results of question 2, it seems like this question is not comprehensive enough
to fully grasps someones personality.
Question 4 did not provide all the information. Thats why, it should be complemented by a
second open question, asking about what that decision actually was.
The results of question 8 (50% - 50%) didnt give us much information. Because not one
possible answer had the upper hand, it was impossible to draw a conclusion.
Due to these results we felt like the question should be formulated differently.
In way that the respondents understand how drastic these risks could actually be.
The second edition of the survey will be open to all Artevelde students. Thats why it is
important that there is a question included that asks about the education of each particular
student. Because the attitude towards risks could be influenced by your education, its
possible that there could be a clear difference between various educations within Artevelde,
when it comes to taking risks.

Final conclusion

First of all, we made a survey about risks and asked our class to fill it in, after a few days we
came together and made some substantive conclusions. Then we criticized our survey and
added, clarified and dropped some questions and made a new survey. Met opmerkingen [ob14]: Not too bad, a pity of the
illogical structure and the observation part which should
have been in a text, not in a table and I miss a title
