Statement:
To develop the specific angle with the help of angle gauges.

Apparatus:
1. Angle Gauge Blocks

Theory:
Angle gauge:
Angle gauges are based on the same principle of wringing as block gauges except
they are used for angular measurements instead of linear measurements.
The angle set comprises of following angles shown in figure below:
1. Gauge blocks in degrees 90, 41, 27, 9, 3, 1
2. Gauge blocks in minutes 27, 9, 3, 1
3. Gauge blocks in seconds 30, 18, 6

All these gauges are made from high chrome, high carbon alloy steel, hardened to
60 HRC, stabilized and are wear resistant. Gauges are finely ground and lapped to
flatness. Gauges are supplied in wooden polished box.
The selection of angular gauge blocks is like the selection of linear gauge blocks,
except that subtraction may also be required.
1. For addition: when the blocks are stacked, the written angles are at same
ends of the same side.
2. For Subtraction: When the blocks are stacked, then angles are on the
opposite ends of the same side
Procedure:
1. Select the required angle to be measured.
2. Select the corresponding set of gauges G1, G2, G3...etc., that sums up to the
required angle.
3. Clean the slip gauge with oil and cleansing tissue.
4. Place one gauge over the other normal to surface with light pressure. then
turn until the gauge surfaces align in one line.
5. for separating the two wrung angle gauges, combined sliding and twisting
motion should be used.

Observations:

Comments:
1. Large range of Angles can be measured using block gauges as it seems from
looking at the above table.
2. Angles with accuracy up to 6 seconds can be measured.
3. Due to the old equipment, the surface finish of many angle block gauges is
lost and so the ability of them joined together.
4. The ability of angle block gauges to be joined together can be increased by
polishing them with oil and silk clothing.
