Refl ection

An important to write a course reflective essay is to list down what I have learned from
Language Arts. This is the ability to step back and understand my own actions and thought
thoughtout my learning process.

There are a lot of knowledge that I have gained from this subject. For example, what
are songs and poems? Besides, I also have learned how the songs and the poems affect the
learning of the students Language Arts is an interesting subject that can help me to think
outside the box and widens my general knowledge. When I study this subject I found that
there are a lot of ways to teach students so that they will not feel bored when the teacher is
teaching. Teaching songs and poems bring benefits to the students too. The students can
gain new knowledge and they also learn in a fun way.

This time, I have learned how to do a lesson plan. The most important point in doing the
lesson plan is make sure the behavioural objectives and learning standards fit properly.
Besides, activity planning should be interesting because this is one of the key that will
increase the attention span of the student in the class. The teaching aids also need to be
creactive so that the students will learn happily throughout the lesson while the teacher is
teaching.

Madam Tan Mee Chin has given the task on simulated teaching to the class during
School Based Experience. In the task, we need to develop a kit for songs and poems. After
we have developed the kit, we need to have simulated teaching in the class. I have chosen
to teach song to the year 2 students.

During School Based Experience, I have a very good experience of moving away
from the students desk to the teachers desk given me any new-found realizations or
perspectives on teaching. I found that there is a big different between teaching in the class
and paying attention on teachers teaching in the class. Why I feel there is a big difference?
It is because as a teacher you need to conduct the class and make sure the class is
successful. When you face some problematic students in the class, you need to control the
students so that they will focus on the teaching in the class. Besides, as a teacher,
sometimes you will also face a problem between yourself and students. As an adult, you are
responsible to take care of your students and guide them. Therefore, the teacher needs to
have good emotional control when handling the problem between the teacher and the
students. This is the new-found realizations or perspectives on teaching that I gained when I
have the experience of moving away from the students desk to the teachers desk.
 I like the way that Madam Tan teaches. The styles of teaching just like telling a story,
from this section to that section and it is connected. I would like to take her teaching style as
a guide for future teaching. Besides, I also learnt to build my confidence when I see Madam
Tan teaches.

I learnt a lot in Semester 3. I hope I will learn more in the future, so that I can prepare
myself to be a teacher. Thank you, Madam Tan.
