In the early years, Tibal-og was once a barrio of Kapalong

covered with lust forest, largely inhabited by the indigenous

community of Aetas also locally known as Ata. With the entry
of the Philippine Abaca Development Company (PADCO), there
was massive clearing of forests to pave way for the
development of the abaca industry in the area. This in turn
drove the natives farther to the deep forests. Migrants from
all over Visayas, Luzon and even from other parts in Mindanao
had started coming to the place paving way for gradual
urbanization. Initial development had taken place and
economic activities had started to flourish. Moreover, the
establishment of resettlement purposes by the late President
Ramon Magsaysay via Proclamation No, 132 as well as the
National Resettlement and Rehabilitation Administration
(NARRA) had attracted migrants from the different parts of the
country. The area then was headed by a certain Martin Geraga
as the first Teniente del Barrio who had served from 1955-
1957. After Geragas leadership, Mr. Guillermo Caturza
replaced him as Teniente del Barrio.

With its fast socio-economic development, Tibal-og was

separated from its mother municipality Kapalong and was
created as a municipality by virtue of Executive Order No. 352
on August 14, 1959. The new town was named as Sto. Tomas
and, Tibal-og became one of its regular barangays. The
barangay then was still under the leadership of Mr. Caturza as
his service as Teniente del Barrio lasted in 1964.

In the late 60s, a U.S.-based company known as Marsman

Estate Plantation Incorporated had introduced and established
a commercial banana plantation which contributed much to the
socio-economic development of the place. Influx of migrants
had considerably increased. Among them were Boholanos,
Cebuanos, Ilonggos, Ilocanos and others.

Barangay Tibal-og had been steered by several sets of

barrio/barangay officials who had made great contributions for
the development of the barangay. In 1964, Daniel S.
Batosalem, Sr. was appointed as Barrio Captain who led the
affairs of the barangay until 1970. He had some initiatives for
the establishment of then Sto. Tomas Community High School,
now the Sto. Tomas National High School.

He was then succeeded by Feliciano Tumaob who had

served until 1986. Initial developments had taken place.
After the EDSA Revolution in 1986, Dario Romano was
appointed as barrio captain during the transition period whose
term lasted until 1989. When a barangay election was held on
March 28, 1989, Daniel Batosalem, Sr. sought a seat as
barangay captain and luckily got the nod of the constituents.
He was not able to finish his term. He had only served until
1993 because of death. To fill the remaining term, Epifanio
Mallorca was automatically installed as barrio captain by law
of succession serving until 1994.

Determined to continue what had been started by his late

father, Daniel Batosalem, Jr. tried his luck in politics and
fortunately made it during the May 9, 1994 elections and was
able to finish his first term in 2007. Again, he sought re-
election in the same year (May 12, 1997) and also made it.
Infrastructure projects were implemented. He had served until
May 2004 when he decided to seek a slot in the Sangguniang
Bayan during the May 11, 2004 local elections. He also won
as Sangguniang Bayan member thereby installing Cromwell
Cocamas as the barangay captain by law of succession.

Cocamas continued to implement projects had served until

May 2007 when he opted to run as municipal councilor in the
May 14 elections in the same year. That time, Cipriano Dimaya
had assumed the vacated seat left by the former. He had only
served until November 30, 2007, giving way to the barangay
captain-elect of the October 29, 2007 elections in the person of
Benigno R. Andamon.

Andamon is responsible for the acquisition of a one-

hectare donated lot for a barangay site. He has opened some
barangay roads and has facilitated for the donation of roads
and alleys for the barangay.
