English, Matthew. "American Media Has Significant Impact on European Attitudes." Collegiate

Times. N.p., 8 Nov. 2010. Web. 23 May 2017. In this article, Matthew English describes

his observations on the influence of American media from staying on the Swiss-Italian

border for a couple months. English tells the audience in the article that he realizes most

children and students in Europe have actually learned the English language through

watching American television shows, movies, and listening to American music. He also

says that watching movies and youtube videos made in America is how Europeans

describe American culture: based on the things that happen in the videos and movies.

This article was reliable and used personal experiences and observations to support the

main argument. This article mainly only focused on one side of the argument, however it

still helps support my argument for neo-imperialism of American media.

"Globalization." World Public Opinion. N.p., n.d. Web. 23 May 2017.

<http://www.americans-world.org/digest/global_issues/globalization/culture.cfm>. In this

article, the author divides it into multiple sections to explain whether American influence

has a positive or negative affect on the world and whether Americans feel that other

cultures have a positive or negative affect on Americas success. The article uses

statistics and polls in almost every paragraph, which makes this a very reliable source to

use for my argument. This article supports my topic and stance and states that for both the

impact on America and the impact on other countries, the influences are both positive

based on numerous polls taken.

Goldfarb, Michael. "American Culture Rules the World." Raconteur. Raconteur Media Ltd., 19

Oct. 2014. Web. 18 May 2017. In the background section of this article, it says that the

reason American media dominates the world is because the whole country is made up of

immigrants who still have connections and family in other countries. This allows the

media to be spread quickly and easily to other countries. In the second section called

Global Culture, the article talks about Americas film success and how immigrants started

the success in Hollywood. This section supports the idea of the immigrants connections

around the world. In the last section titled Aid and Education, the article mentions points

about what the American Government puts money towards and education rooted from

America. Finally, in the concluding paragraph, it says that America will continue

influencing the world in a positive way if all of America remembers their immigrant roots

and spread their American culture and knowledge. This article is mostly reliable because

it includes a strong argument and some statistics to support it. This helps shape my

argument by supporting the stance that America has a positive influence on the world by

spreading its media.

Lincourt, Billy. "The Global Spread of American Culture Isnt a Bad Thing." Niner Times. N.p.,

22 Jan. 2014. Web. 23 May 2017. In this article, a college student explains the reasons

why the spread of American culture and media doesnt have a negative impact on other

cultures. It states that people can choose what they like and dont like about the American

culture they have seen, but it will not negatively impact them or their cultures. This

article is very supportive of my stance on the spread of American media and helps shape

my argument on the positive impact American media has on the world. This source is

somewhat reliable because it is an opinion article, however it was written by Mass media

and journalism major student at UNC Charlotte.

Swallow, Dr. Deborah. "Cultural Globalisation: Does It Exist?" Dr Deborah Swallow Global

Cultural Diversity American Media Dominance Tag. N.p., 2009. Web. 18 May 2017.

This article written by Dr. Deborah Swallow explores the many reasons as to why

American media dominates the world and what affect it has on other countries. While

Swallow does believe that American media is a form of neo-imperialism, she conjectures

that as other countries rise in economic power, then americanization will fall back and

allow for a larger variety of media input from other countries. Dr. Deborah Swallow uses

economic power for this reasoning because she stated that America has a very powerful

and strong economy and that is why they are so popular with media. This helps support

my idea that America has more money to put towards media while other countries do not,

keeping them from being able to have their own media production. This source is reliable

because it comes from the Dr. Deborah Swallow website in which she has traveled and

worked in thirty different countries for research purposes.
